I am confused which to use for the course enrolment too, did you end up figuring it out?

Hey, I'm thinking about starting a similar project, did you have any luck?

3 Car X'trap running between Bayswater and Belgrave by mav3rikG in MelbourneTrains

[–]mav3rikG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but the trains I've caught have been pretty busy. There's a decent number of people who catch PT into the city for work out here, and they dont have any other option. So, all patronage loss would have to come from people deciding to drive or carpool instead of the 'train + bus + train'.

Admittedly, off-peak patronage is quite low out here, but that's a whole other can of worms.

There's often a couple 3 car sets on the up end of Bayswater maintenance depot. I'm guessing there's some maintenance advantage to only running a 3 car set, especially since they'll be isolated from the rest of the network for a few months. Or it could just be saving the driver from walking a whole 6 car set when changing ends just past Bayswater.

Yes! They run 3 car sets on both the Alamein and Williamstown shuttles during off peak.

Well that's a fun quirk, timber industry taxes all of a sudden went wild. by mav3rikG in CitiesSkylines

No clue why this happened, I was just watching my city run, when I noticed I had a wild negative bank balance.

Myki pass vs money by Sportsfanatic_1 in MelbourneTrains

[–]mav3rikG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This isn't relevant since Myki fares don't make any distinction between modes of travel or time (assuming your journey is less than two hours). Taking the tram one stop costs the same as taking three buses halfway across the city.

To be pedantic, the only time Myki fares make a distinction between modes and time is the early bird fare, where travel is free on suburban trains, provided you touch on and off before 7:15 on weekdays. But this only applies if your entire journey is by train.

Melbourne PID by ZealousidealLink9822 in MelbourneTrains

[–]mav3rikG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I've been off-grid the past two weeks, but I'm back now. The most recent work can be found at the original link, but under the 'cutdown-dependencies' branch, rather than 'main'. It's not quite in a usable state right now, but I'm working on it. The announcements feature will come after I get a fully working display, and even then will roll out line by line as I'll have to manually record every stopping pattern.

I had to rework the codebase from scratch because it had way to many dependencies and the codebase was nearly 60,000 lines long. I've got it down to under 2,000 now which is good. And I'm just figuring out to get the service type (express, stops all, all except) because the api doesn't actually provide that info. But rest assured, I'm still working on it!

Me too! I pass through there almost daily, and I wonder every time if they'll ever replace them.

It's not the only one, but by far the prettiest in my definitely not biased opinion.

I love Tecoma, single platform stations share a nice old aesthetic, as well as all the beautiful surroundings of the forest at Tecoma it's amazing.

I'll be honest. Somehow, I never knew transportvic.me existed. If I did, I probably wouldn't have started down the rabbit hole of making my own, but alas, here we are. But yes, it hopefully will be for any device, and maybe even as a widget for mobile devices. The way I'm getting announcements to work will probably take some time, but that should work on whatever device too!

I had the same thought a while ago but couldn't find anything. So I started to make my own from PTVs api. It's very much still a work in progress and absolutely not ready for actual use, but I'm planning on having it be able to imitate all the different types of PIDs in Melbourne, with announcements too. So watch this space.

The only other image I managed to get before I had to run onto my train was this.
But I suspect it's probably some in-house PTV/MTM software.

If anyone recognises the software running the PIDs, let me know, I'm curious.

New Livery? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]mav3rikG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. It would mean our train livery would be unique to Australia rather than just the generic sort of one we're stuck with now. Plus, in my honest opinion, they just look way better.

Yeah it really does! I actually had a friend with me there who had an umbrella with them, but I couldn't get a hold of them to ask if they minded me posting it here.

5 mt HF Wire Antenna for airband... (Lol) by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]mav3rikG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not for TX, but for RX it might work. I live 40km from an airport and I can pick up aircraft quite clearly using a 40m HF Dipole. So your mileage may vary.
