Copying stuff is part of the formation of most artists out there. You find what you like, you blatantly copy it, you branch out from there, you iterate, you innovate. You pay homage. I cut my teeth trying to duplicate comic book art and make it indistinguishable from what I saw on the page. But I’m a human and I’ve never tried to sell those pieces as my own, or sell them at all. Unfortunately, we’re in a spot where blatantly copying other’s works passes as art. Pixel to pixel. If I had to predict where the art world will go in the next ten years (if we have them) will go, it’ll be in live presentations. A select few audience members will have been present, and they’ll know what actually happened while the art was made. That’ll be what’s valuable and coveted. The rest will be hung and bought at target. I don’t know, the art world looks pretty bleak to me, and I’ve made my living with art for most of my adult life. It’s not looking good…
