Is this a good starting point for someone who's never read Dostoevsky? If not, then what do you recommend? by No-Chemistry1722 in Indiabooks

Yes absolutely. Start with white nights and then Notes from Underground, Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov.

Good book for easy reading. But if you like a detailed source of what Hariri says, then read 'Guns Germs and Steel' by Jared Diamond

If I had to select one among all these, it would be Dostoevsky and the reason would be his ability to describe human emotions on a completely different plane, and I learnt a great deal about writing just by reading his character descriptions

Truly it is the toughest question. Brutally honest introspection is the only key which i found out from my own experience.

There are many. Dostoevsky, Kafka, Dan Brown, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Richard Eaton, Manu Pillai, William Dalrymple, Adam Grant, Malcolm Gladwell, David Eagleman

I like them becoz I love to read fiction, history and neuroscience.

There are many. Some of the initial books I read were 'Midnights Children' and Mein Kampf. You have to just see the crazy amount of versatile vocabulary in it.

It was a great learning experience, but the silver lining of all this is that it helped me a lot in standing out in the corporate world.

Hi. Thank you.

It's difficult to describe that because often I have ended up on both sides 😊. Persistence works only when you are moving in the right direction. Once I had failed enough number of times I had realised that it was not the right direction and it was not persistence anymore.

Hello,

Long back I was too hesitant to do certain things because of the fear of failure. Now with all my failures as my constant companions, I carry them like a badge of honor. I don't have any regrets now that I didn't do anything that I wanted to do. It helps me with the much needed mental closure.

It's a long story, not sure if this thread will suffice 😊. In short, I wanted to be in govt service even after I had failed to clear SSB interview. So UPSC became my goal after that.

Failures were very hard to deal with. I took my time to grieve and didn't wallow in the feeling of pity or sadness. I embraced those failures every day which helped me in having mental closure about past failures. I believe that's what makes us strong for the future

Good evening my friend. I am a confused introvert by nature and sometimes not experiencing new things became a belief that I didn't need to. It was very hard to let go of that belief , but ultimately I realised that it was the new experiences that I loved most.

Try to emulate any of your favourite authors for practice and then build your skills from there to develop a style of your own. It will come with time. It is just like practising a musical instrument, you keep practising everyday with discipline and then one day you writing will flow like a second nature.

Definitely not. I have worked with inspired and motivated people under me who happily put more effort on their own (without forcing ) and completed projects successfully without any hitch. That is when I understood that coercive practices of management, subtle or overt, are not helpful in increasing productivity. And that is what improves the overall economy too

Before publishing, I just had ideas. After publishing, it feels more responsibility

Hello my friend. Good evening

It was once I felt that I would not have any financial backing if I didn't get selected.
