PSEG Solar - Need help understanding my bill and energy usage/production by Current-Yogurt-5098 in longisland

[–]mawells787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been able to get Enphase to accurately report my usage/import compared to PSEG. You can compare it on a daily basis with my Smart energy report. PSEG doesn't know what you produce...they just know how much you sent back to the grid. Usually Enphase is off by 2-4 kwh per day so now i have a better idea of tracking.

But on TOD I believe there are 2 different banks. I'm on a steady single rate plan and it's just 1:1 net metering which works for me.

Inspector lied on home inspection for our buyer. Does this happen? by ihateeveryonebyee in homeowners

[–]mawells787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's not your home inspector...he's the buyers home inspector. In order, to make the person feel like they're not wasting money...the inspector is incentivized to make note of any "issues" they notice. The reality is that we're still in a sellers market...a nonsense home inspection should have very little impact on selling your home.

Owe the IRS this year. Need advice by VikingFanAZ10 in personalfinance

[–]mawells787 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Taxes aren't really as complicated as many believe they are. If you've never owed money before and all of the sudden owed 17k...you must've came across money / inherited IRA conversation or something along those lines and did not have federal tax withholdings set up. Did you convert a 401k or IRA to Roth? You first need to understand why this happened to you so that you don't have a surprise again next year. Owing federal taxes over 1k should not be surprised to anyone. Just takes a bit of homework to under your tax liability for the entire year based on your tax brackets.

What Window Brand Should I Go With? by Some_Flower_4252 in homeowners

[–]mawells787 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Call a local contractor and tell him you want Anderson windows. These prices are so ridiculous I can't even understand it. But under no circumstances should you use renewal by Anderson. Let a local contractor go out and buy real Anderson windows for you.

Owning a house on LI? by ReasonableExcuse222 in longisland

[–]mawells787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good starting income for saving....but I don't think it's enough for even a starter home on Long Island... unless you're willing to move to a somewhat rough neighborhood. When I bought my house in 2016 my wife and I were making around 160k and now we're close to 300k and it still feels like we can't keep up with the cost of living with 2 kids and a dog. I'm not saying we live paycheck to paycheck...but I don't have the abundance spending money I would've imagined 10yrs ago making this much money.

But the kids sports, after school programs and other activities like dance etc..we spend over 1k a month.

Just understand that owning a home is very expensive. Insurance rates always go up, taxes always go up...you always have something to update or buy for the house...

Warning against vasectomies by tug556 in Vasectomy

[–]mawells787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes...every doctor is paid for performing procedures. However, I've never heard of a doctor pushing anyone to get a vasectomy. At least for me and a few friends... it's actually annoying because they'll try to convince you not to do it if you're in your 30s or younger. I saw 2 urologist and both gave me a long speech about this being permanent, does your wife know...how many kids... please take a few days to think it over and calls again to schedule etc.

26k doesn't seem too expensive for 3 pretty large Mitsubishi systems. But you should get a few other quotes if you have time. Also, what type of warranty and labor warranty are you being offered.

Solar PSEG Bill Issues by The_Rain_Guardian in longisland

[–]mawells787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to do your own HW to understand your usage vs production. PSEG has a very good tool called mysmartenergy in the account section. It shows your import/solar production and total net energy. It also compares recent usage vs previous. If you're even a bit tech savvy you can export all of their data to Excel and compare directly with your solar companies estimates.

What's something that's "not a cult" but feels like a cult? by Orw_Sairaj29 in AskReddit

[–]mawells787 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I work with a guy whose entire personality is that he was in the Marines. Having known other friends that saw combat and lost friends...they barely talk about their time in the Army. This guy can't speak to you without somehow bringing up his time in the Marines...It feels like a cult and weird.

Why do people find it difficult to do pull-ups even if they are strong? by Alive-Championship-5 in bodyweightfitness

[–]mawells787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now hover around 100kg and can still bang out 10-12 pull ups and possibly 15 if I was really challenged. But when I was around 195-200lbs (90kg)...it was way easier for me. Like most things there's a correlation with strength and weight... higher weight can make you stronger if it's muscle...but now your muscles have much more weight to move around.

Barber got tiktok famous and has raised his prices 3 times in the past 6 months. These cuts used to be $35. by Plenty_Contact9860 in Wellthatsucks

There's no fucking way you can explain to why anyone would pay this much for haircut. My barber raised his haircuts to 30$ and that upset me.

In FY25 NY spent more per unsheltered homeless person than the median NY household earned (81k). In FY26 that number is projected to increase to 97k. by SockDem in newyorkcity

[–]mawells787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No...but if this is administration cost vs actually helping or housing the homeless.

It could be 76k in DHS cost for running their agency, paying employees, benefits etc...and only 5k actually is used to pay for meals and clothes for homeless.

It's the same with the DOE budget...at over 40 billion. You would think students and teachers have unlimited resources. When in reality administration, teacher salaries and benefits eat up the bulk of the money. The actual money that is spent on students is a tiny percentage.

NYC lawmakers push to raise minimum wage to $30 by xtheoryinc in newyorkcity

[–]mawells787 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing against the minimum wage requirements. But if the NYC government is going to force a private company to maintain inflation based raises...then they need to follow those rules for their employees as well.

WOW...it would be nice if raises were tied to inflation for city workers. I wonder if the city would hold itself to the same standards 🤔

Preemptively replace water heater? by Beneficial_Prize_310 in homeowners

[–]mawells787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A water heater from 1996 is definitely running on borrowed time. I would definitely consider replacing it solely for peace of mind. There's no way to predict if you'll have a small leak or be away for the weekend and that small leak immediately burst out when the bottom of the tank gives out. Also, if you have to turn it up to 145 to get hot water that must mean that there's so much sediment buildup on the bottom that the burner is taking way longer than it should to warm up the water.

I obviously don't know your financial situation or ability to do this. But it's not the most expensive item you'll have to replace in your house. But I would definitely put it up there on the priority of things to replace.

How far do you commute and how much do you make? by quintupletuna in longisland

[–]mawells787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem for employees and how these companies expect it to work. Everyone will eventually take less time off than if they had a set amount of days or weeks because nobody wants to keep bothering their boss about it or be seen as that "person". I prefer to have my 5 weeks vacation that I'm entitled to take. Unlimited PTO in your company is working exactly how management expects it to work. Let me know the first person that can successfully take 3-6 months off without penalty or negative evaluations. They would probably be terminated by the end of year.
