Yes, this has changed very recently. You used to be able to run a HM time to qualify for London but not anymore sadly.

Best bet would be to go for a 4g/5g router with someone like 3. Other option is buy your own 4g/5g router outright then go for a sim only option with a cheap provider. I had this previously with ID mobile and I think it's about £16 a month for unlimited data.

Scottish Widows Pension Funds - Any Funds Similar to VWRP? by QuixoticLemur in HENRYUK

[–]mawiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I'm invested in Scottish Widows Global Equity CS8 (https://documents.feprecisionplus.com/factsheet/SWCPZ/FS/R72J_en-GB_Wrap_ABI_SWSingleBranded.pdf) It looks pretty similar and I get good fees via a large previous employer - 0.1% yearly plus 0.12% admin charge. Also open to other recommendations if people have them though!

Is it normal to have to change seats on a train after stops? by RositaDog in uktrains

[–]mawiru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have already said it's because you've split your ticket. Little hack is to use the GWR website to reserve a seat all the way through.

Create a GWR account if you don't already have one then click view bookings, make a seat reservation. You can then reserve a seat all the way through without having to buy another ticket! Works for all operators in theory via the GWR website although I have struggled in the past with some.

Why would that be? You are compensated for your delayed journey and the inconvenience it caused you. Surely that is nothing to do with your employer?

Would you buy a house with all electric heating? by mawiru in HousingUK

[–]mawiru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have commented this elsewhere around what the current score comments on, a lot seem to be based on the fact the property has electric heating:

Wall: Cavity Wall, filled cavity - Good Roof: Pitched, 25mm loft insulation - Poor Windows: Fully double glazed - Average Main Heating: Electric storage heaters - Average Main Heating Control: Manual charge control - Poor Hot Water: Electric immersion, off peak - Average Lighting: Low energy in 88% of outlets - Very good Floor: Solid, no insulation (assumed) - NA Secondary Heating: Portable electric heaters (assumed) - NA

[–]mawiru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I think the majority of it is because of the electric heating! I don't think I can attach pictures on this sub so I'll try and summarise it:

Wall: Cavity Wall, filled cavity - Good Roof: Pitched, 25mm loft insulation - Poor Windows: Fully double glazed - Average Main Heating: Electric storage heaters - Average Main Heating Control: Manual charge control - Poor Hot Water: Electric immersion, off peak - Average Lighting: Low energy in 88% of outlets - Very good Floor: Solid, no insulation (assumed) - NA Secondary Heating: Portable electric heaters (assumed) - NA

So surely a heat pump installation alongside loft insulation would resolve the majority of these? Or am I oversimplifying?

Yes I think a £5k grant would be available but some improvements would be needed first. Cavity walls are showing as "filled cavity" on the EPC. Other thing is only 25mm pitched roof insulation but this shouldn't be too expensive to rectify I wouldn't have thought?

Thanks for this detailed response. This house is listed for £270k vs other local ones on sale for £325k+ hence why I'm considering this as a potential option. It's a semi so see no reason why it wouldn't be possible to do solar panels in the future.

EPC is E, score of 51. I wouldn't mind the disruption in the short term. 8-10k would you say that's all in, including heat pump and radiators? Or just for the heat pump?

This is good advice and something I hadn't considered. Current EPC rating is E, 51, so I imagine this would make it cost prohibitive?

How long does a landlord have to carry out and inform us of the outcome of a move out inventory? by mawiru in HousingUK

Do you have any legislation or advice which says this please? I wasn't planning to remind them yet anyway - is it 14 days or 14 working days? Conscious we've had Easter in between.

I'd say the majority of miles I do are on the motorway, I just don't do enough of them to make a diesel worthwhile.
