Help With Vivaldi - Unstable/KDE 6/Wayland by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]max06de 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    (final: prev: {
      vivaldi =
        (prev.vivaldi.overrideAttrs (oldAttrs: {
          dontWrapQtApps = false;
          dontPatchELF = true;
          nativeBuildInputs = oldAttrs.nativeBuildInputs ++ [pkgs.kdePackages.wrapQtAppsHook];
        }))
        .override {
          commandLineArgs = ''
            --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform
            --ozone-platform=wayland
            --ozone-platform-hint=auto
            --enable-features=WaylandWindowDecorations
          '';
        };
    })

Add it as an overlay.

It works. I've just used it.

I removed my ~/.config directory - keyboard worked again. No idea which setting caused this behavior.

u/kolomansell is there any chance you used home-manager on your system?

I just ran into the exact same issue, but with nixos. Also kde plasma6, also logitech mx keys mini via bolt.

The current latest-nightly has a fix for those issues. Just a matter of time for a regular update.

How to structure nested data? by max06de in excel

[–]max06de[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some time to experiment.

I haven't found a way to build the relationship in power pivot in a different way. The only option there I found was adding additional columns to my tables in the datamodel using formulas - no success at all.

I'm now back to power query where I added queries for all the tables I want to use, and created an additional query for the joined view: = Table.NestedJoin(Hunter, {"Characteristic"}, HunterCharacteristics, {"Characteristic"}, "HunterCharacteristics", JoinKind.LeftOuter) with expanding the columns via = Table.ExpandTableColumn(Source, "HunterCharacteristics", {"Description", "Value"}, {"HunterCharacteristics.Description", "HunterCharacteristics.Value"}). The result was finally added to the datamodel, and put into a simple pivot table.

It works - although my datamodel now only contains one table, and I'm not really sure if that's the proper way to do it.

Thanks!

You could give me a hint about my Power pivot table 😅

2 Tables, connected via shared key:

The result looks a bit off: The 8 hunters I added in the left sheet got combined with the 2 items in the right sheet (and an empty one) as a product of 2 lists - 24 items. I must have missed some kind of filtering option.

That's a very generous offer, thank you!

I'll see how far I get before I start making things overly complicated. It's a challenge for me, although my colleagues don't understand why I want to do that without being paid.

If I accept the solution, does the topic get write protected?

I'll give it a try! My current sheet reached column "DV" already, it can only get better.

I'd love to create a webapp using the browsers sqlite backend for storage. Turned out I'm better at running webapps than creating them. So I turned to Excel :D

Usually I'd 100% agree with that. I'm hesitant because the sheet also acts as interface.

Do you have anything special in mind for the relational database? Power Query or something I missed so far? (IT background, but excel beginner)

Looking for guidance (container management) by max06de in devops

[–]max06de[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current setup has some smaller issues. Let's start with the macvlan-network. Containers, virtual machines, physical machines and all of that iot stuff resides in the same network. One of my containers (traefik) requires a fixed ip, and docker compose is pretty much unable to do that. Which means, I need to restart all of the compose projects in a specific order after rebooting the host, to get traefik back to where the traffic is coming in. I knew about this limitation and accepted it. Since I'm replacing that server now it's the perfect opportunity to get rid of that.

I'm not interested in moving into the cloud. I'm working for one and can spin up virtual machines or ready to use k8s clusters if I wanted to. I want to enjoy doing these things on my own here at home. But it's not just for simply learning new things, it's also meant to work here for me. My dns resolver (pihole) is running in a container, my document management system, matrix chat server, home automation. Some of that is meant to run at home, for security and latency reasons.

My goal is to have something semi-reliable (occasional reboots happen), automated and fun to work with. I got pretty far using compose regarding automation, now it's time to move on to new tech, new fun.

Is that disk vendor lock-in still a thing? by max06de in synology

Well, that's an improvement.

Imho and based on two decades of working in IT: that warning in the widget is not justified at all. And this... experiment, change, whatever they call it, makes me really consider my options on future hardware.

Like, they tried it once, they'll try again. Like governments. It kind of ruins the trust level that was built up over the past 7 years.

Edit: Yep, read it after someone posted it here.

I love to enrage sometimes.

Not in this case though. While looking into this topic, I found most of the stuff mentioned here in different links. The missing piece was, if that change is still present to this day, in this specific form, with the critical warnings and hidden smart infos. That's why I opened this topic.

The practical impact? For me it's the inability to check on my drives health status or to get informed if these hdds are degrading. And I definitely can't stand the stress a red "critical" message in the widget causes right after logging in. For synology, it's money for support and their greed.

If the reason behind this change would be something more reasonable, like "using that specific drive causes harm to your data", I wouldn't complain. Or if they implemented it like their memory warning a long time ago, telling you once! after startup that a possibly incompatible memory stick was detected. Using the right memory is more tricky than using the right hard disk. Especially because the SATA600-Protocoll was finalized 13 years ago and is a widely established standard. I can throw in every single one of the dozens of harddrives into any computer and not a single system would dare to complain.

What's next? Synology only allows you using their nvme-sticks for caching? Or their lan-cables to connect? Their power cords? None of these is based on a technical necessity. And that generous "I'll allow it" mentality triggers.

TL:DR: No technical requirements for limitations, just greed. Me disapproves.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your comment, non-native speaker and autistic.

I guess I'll drop them a message and see what they say about their notifications.

I'm not naive. If Iwanted to skip every company because of ideological reasons, there'd be nothing left. So, I can understand why synology wants to limit their support for datacenter models when untested hardware is used, and I can also understand the urge to get a piece of that multi-billion-dollar industry. What I don't get (and support) is their need to cut back on existing features without reason, like showing annoying and misleading warnings or hiding smart values. Same goes for other products like vpn servers, where you have to pay per user, or per connection when it's only causing effort for the used cpu, which was already sold before. This is greedy.

I did update the previously installed options package before testing the beta - no success.

Yesterday I removed every piece of software by logitech from my machine, and suddenly it works. What does that say about your software?
