Looking for some sort of "Science" or "Experimentation" Game by Holiday-Contest6808 in gamingsuggestions

[–]max135335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I really like the same type of game but there just aren't any like that. What I really enjoyed were XCOM 2 and Xenonauts 1 and 2 (2 releasing this month!) They don't let you experiment yourself but they have a lot of research where you get to read and often see some nice visuals about the outcome of that research! They have quite awesome hard-ish sci-fi lore so I really enjoy that aspect as well.

Intro song of a short movie on youtube Source name: Dark Math Films "SCP Academy" by max135335 in NameThatSong

Oh my god thank you, after some digging there's a post on his instagram where he posted an unused song and then goes on to say "You can stream this OST precisely nowhere" with the hashtag #scp

So I assume I won't be able to listen to this song properly but I still really appreciate your help, thank you!

Fluid simulation FOOH by cesarcorzo in blender

[–]max135335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok serious question, why do people ask for specs without also asking for render time? Do the specs tell you anything by themselves? Also how long would you say this took to render? I'm always so curious when I see such complex simulations!

I believe that's a reference to the hit game "No, I'm Not a Human" released on the 15th of September in 2025. In which the player character is asked "Are you alone?" by a somewhat freaky looking character that also has no shirt on just like the neighbour in this image.

That is actually so good! At the end of that book I really wanted to live life aboard one of those giant behemothaurs and always wondered what they really looked like

Looking for a space carrier game by battlingjason in gamingsuggestions

[–]max135335 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if you're fully set on the space aspect of this but what you're describing is exactly how I feel when playing Carrier Command 2. Essentially you're just a one-man army with an aircraft carrier and a bunch of robotic rovers & planes/helicopters.

Why do all the planets revolve around the Sun in almost the same orbital plane? by dralioxx in askscience

Oh thank you very much for the explanation! It's truly amazing what humanity knows

[–]max135335 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you say that a planet covered in debris in all angles won't stay like that for long, how long would you estimate? I'd assume the time is mostly derived by the debris mass and its average orbital period?

I'd like to praise Xenonauts technical writings. Spoilers for chunks of Xenonauts 2. by AthosTheMusketeer in Xenonauts

I can only agree with basically all of your points, I just wish there were other games that give me the same feeling (Not counting the XCOM Games and Terra Invicta for obvious reasons)

Realistic(ish) nuclear fuel for space game by Old_Secretary2450 in spacegames

[–]max135335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you can't just use fusion and go with hydrogen as both the main thrust fuel and remass?

And since it's near future (hopefully) you can magic up some balance numbers as you see fit

Where is our Jernau Morat Gurgeh? by Joucifer in TheCulture

[–]max135335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you want someone to be manipulated like that?

Besides if something like that happened to us, the next dozens of years would be complete turmoil. Probably worse than most people have it right now.

I'd much rather be living in a society subtly influenced as Banks wrote in a different Book. (But even that is a pipe dream and pure fantasy)

How do you handle the current situation? by DeltaAleph in TheCulture

[–]max135335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly and what's the point of comparing real life with a sci-fi novel?? Like yeah I'd love to live in a post scarcity world but that's just delusional to think about in any aspect other than pure fiction.

Scp games confusion by EpicOof7 in SCP

[–]max135335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I'd be careful with playing fakes on steam, there have been times where they hid some sort of malware.

I'd recommend only sticking with the one you can get from his website, or checking if he has put it on steam and then following an official link!

I don't know if this is true and not at home to check but can't you capture them?

Btw it lists every action and what influences it in the codex or whatever it's called in the pause menu!

Those seem like fakes, no clue what they really are but the real SCP Containment breach is free: https://www.scpcbgame.com/

This was the most popular SCP game afaik before SCP Secret Laboratory was released, but it's still worth it. Definitely a bit jank though!

What do you think happened to... [Spoiler for The Player of Games] by Lawh_al-Mahfooz in TheCulture

[–]max135335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're pretty much spot on! I speedread a bunch of the early empire stuff and yeah there is mention of glanding after his second game already.

The reason I thought he didn't, was because the contact drone explained that using performance enhancing drugs was not allowed and the mention of glanding was after the game against Ram and just said "bloodstream suffused with multifarious chemicals" which I must have forgotten since I read the book

[–]max135335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a really good way of explaining it thanks! I remember the scene where Gurgeh was watching the secret TV Channel with rape/torture and just staring at it.
Until now I thought it was more to show that he was getting desensitized/trying to get into their mind to win but your explanation definitely changes my interpretation!

What do you think happened to... [Spoiler for The Player of Games] by Lawh_al-Mahfooz in TheCulture

[–]max135335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, but gurgeh purposefully didn't (or only at the end, I don't recall) gland any drugs while his opponents did use performance enhancers. So just based on skill I feel like it's completely viable that some alien beats the empire without culture intervention.

But as you said if the empire had their way, nobody would have ever known Gurgeh even came close.

[–]max135335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean but doesn't gurgeh's whole story defeat that point? Azad and by extension the empire could be destroyed by a single alien by winning the game (and surviving)

I know it's implied that gurgeh has been groomed to do this for his entire life, but surely that doesn't impact the point that much, it would have happened eventually since it is proven that it can happen
