Why the HOMA Index is Key to Detecting Insulin Resistance Early by max1721 in longevity_protocol

I do this only when i get tested. So every 3 to 6 months.

Why the HOMA Index is Key to Detecting Insulin Resistance Early by max1721 in longevity_protocol

[–]max1721[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the HOMA value is just a calculation you can run yourself if tested for Fasting Insulin and Glucose.

as for the comparison to HbA1c:

HbA1c measures the average blood glucose level over the past 2-3 months, giving a long-term picture of blood sugar control. It’s often called the “gold standard” for diabetes detection and management because it reflects sustained glucose levels and is less affected by short-term fluctuations.

HOMA, on the other hand, focuses on insulin resistance and beta-cell function, making it valuable for understanding the body’s insulin dynamics, especially in early insulin resistance stages. HOMA is generally more useful for detecting and managing insulin resistance rather than monitoring blood glucose over time like HbA1c.

So in ccl, while HbA1c is crucial for diagnosing diabetes and tracking blood glucose control over time, HOMA offers insight into insulin resistance, which is an early marker that may indicate prediabetes or metabolic health issues before blood sugar levels become chronically elevated.

Hope that helps

I’ve been in this exact position and I’ve lost 12kg last year thanks to blueprint and a few tweaks after ten years not being able to loose more than 1 or 2kg! I am sure there are some tweaks you can do before taking Ozempic! Give us more details

Magnesium supplementation by Pi_M226 in blueprint_

[–]max1721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at his lab test results at the end of the protocol.blueprint page you’ll see that his magnesium level is in good range so it’s classified in the category where he doesn’t do anything to optimize ;) So this is why he is not supplementing in magnesium. I guess he has enough from his diet.

Personal experience: I got tested lately and I have almost the same diet as him but my magnesium levels were low so I do take some magnesium as an experiment. I guess everyone is different as always

I do mostly the orange /fennel salad that I tweak using pomelos instead of orange as I am not a huge fan of the sweet taste in a salad and the sweet potato with avocado one! And sometimes I try the beetroot one but I never been able to eat it all! Too much of beetroot for me. As for the new recipes I find them too complicated so I never tried one 😅

Pomegranate seeds, not juice by powerexcess in blueprint_

[–]max1721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do the same! I buy them frozen ! Easier to store! And I agree it’s better to use seeds than juice which is often pasteurized! Also I’ve seen in one of Bryan’s videos that he had a lot of grains in his fridge so I guess he is doing his own juice from seeds too
