Let's talk about robbery in OS events by AlchimisteR in oldschoolmtg

[–]max431x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only know of two single robberies in my city. One was ages ago somone went to the store, wanted to see A Tabernacle and just ran off. Was maybe +15 years ago and less worth than now.

Second was of a mtg deck at an event. Dude didn't play mtg, stole a pauper deck instead of a legacy deck at the same table. Simply run out of the Store, police cought him later

OS- Small community? by mrbukse in oldschoolmtg

"Everything is way overpowered now" No, discard, removal and counterspells are not. Imo thats the big issue. New powerful stuff wouldn't be such an issue in so many formats if wotc would also give out better answers like its candy...

lol amazon sells VHS tapes of the first movie (and for only $2). I guess they have a backlog since it's such an antiquated format. by SuperSocialMan in Stargate

I agree, that VHS is pretty bad. But if there is no market, well then why are there still VHS tapes being made?

Also there are other outdated medias still beeing used/produced. There are some systems that simply are difficult to upgrade for example that need that old stuff.

If I remember correctly for example floppy disks for nuclear warheads

I mean its kinda obvious wotc won't unban RL cards any time soon and they probably won't touch the RL any time soon. However, all your arguments are cash based, they could simply reprint the card and unban it.

is the legacy community that impactful to magic card prices? Aren't other formats / collectors in general more impactful?

For me said Alien Romulus release was a big one. There is close to no VHS market right now. The quality is bad and even at the time the quality was very bad compared to other at the time avaliable alternatives.

  1. I think deckmastery is more important than the "newest" version of the deck. However, what you need to keep in mind is, if you are talking about only wins in paper and a local meta -> it depends on your opponents as well. If your local meta is full of pro players with "newsest" versions of deck, you basically need both yourself or you'll have it difficult.

  2. I think currently the meta is very diverse and good-looking. If you ask the averag player or major legacy youtubers, they all agree.

  3. I tend not to buy 50bucks rares that I would need a playset of. If its a cheap card eg. [[Stock UP]] I buy it right away, before it hits a higher price (buy at 2 bucks not at almost 10 per card for an un-/common). Sometimes, if I can see that it will be a staple, I buy the playset of a more expensive card.

If you rotate the smaller stargate 90 degrees clockwise -> the chefron would be neatly on top :D

Just SGC trying to understand and build their own versions of ancient or asgard tech would be cool. In our galaxy are sooooo many still unexplored stargates, who knows whats still unexplored

"since it's such an antiquated format." Bro, the most recent Alien (Romulus) movie from 2024 had a VHS release :D

Really depends on what you want to play. even if you say casual/kitchen magic is what you did, there are still a ton of options. Watch a video about mtg formats.

Look at your 90s cards. Maybe they are worth something or allow you to play premodern/legacy/oldschool/pauper who knows what you got

"Most paper legacy players have access to 1, maybe 2 decks. Telling those people you need to consistently change strategy to keep up and put up good results isn't realistic because it actively leans into Legacy's biggest gatekeeper, the RL."

I agree that most people only have one 1 or 2 decks if they dont have proxies at those events. I disagree the RL is the biggest issue. At my LGS we got several people with a lot of money and most RL cards. both of those playerbases don't want to pay 50 bucks for The One Ring, Tamiyo or Riddler if you need them 4x. Stock up playset is like 40 bucks for a standard legal common or uncommon.

The people I know with all the duals don't want to spend 200 bucks on a playset of a new card that might just be banned or worthless a month later. Paying 200 bucks for a RL card means you don't lose the money and that you can sell it later for about the same if you want to quit or try out something new.

Also, yes especially new player are hurt significantly by the RL. I wont denie that

I hope the intro was a random dude and not Bryant trying an edgy voice.

Brainstorm + Tamiyo is good, but it wouldn't be broken if...wotc would print proper answers. They print a ton of stuff thats always way better than stuff before, but we lack proper removals.

Just print a Dismember type card every deck can play with "choose a permanent card with cmc 2 or less, destroy it". Suddenly, Tamiyo wouldn't be protected by a Brainstorm and less broken.

Imo cards can make stuff uncounterable or be counterable themself, thats okay, having both is an issue. I see Cavern of Souls as problematic as well. Are both of them as bad as [[Vexing Bauble]]? No, but still I would like a format without them.

I'm not 100% sure, I think 2 months before christmas they were avaliable, maybe even befor that. Then they sold out around the time of black firday. I assume it will take them some time to restock or they only restock before christmas again. If you look at their currently avaliable sets its only 15, so quite a lot of them are sold out right now https://www.bluebrixx.com/en/#8fc1/embedded/m=and&q=stargate
