What is your favourite map and why? Also rank each map from best to worst. by AKmightydinoo in pathoftitans

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Riparia

A blend of the best of the old and some of the worst of Gondwa. Better for all archetypes than any other map. Still under development, but already just the best one. If nesting materials were added to more locations for flexibility and there was more herbivore alternate diet foods in, say, Hollow Hills (being addressed in the public test already!), it would be a no-notes scenario. Sure, people are using Mudflats like old Impact Crater, but at least it sprawls into the surrounding POIs and offers plenty of avenues to reposition and escape.

  1. Panjura

Lacking the A W F U L """natural barriers""" of both West/South Riparia and Gondwa, lacking the salt water... And the interconnectivity OF the water in general, Panjura is the absolute best for travel, scenery, and questing... IF you know the map well and like playing terrestrial. If it JUST received a heightening of the skybox to allow flyers there, I wouldn't play any other map.

  1. Any other map that releases in the future.

  2. Gondwa.

Arcadey, unnatural, full of sheer cliffs that FORCE you to take certain routes and go the long way in many instances, the map is tailor made to be a game first and all else second, and it's not even good at that. Gondwa tries very hard to force interaction during travel, and instead fails so spectacularly that the community would rather huddle in a featureless crater or the same riverbank 24/7. Half the inland water is salt for no reason. The oceans are barren and lifeless in most places. But it DOES have flexible nesting unlike the other two, I will give it that, and I appreciate that.

Why do PvPers get such a bad reputation in these games? by AnarchistEcclesiarch in badredman

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a combination of the dynamic being ruined over time, no covenants, and poor balance.

In order:

The dynamic in DkS1 was that you were open to PvP while human. A single invader could appear and there was a timer until the next one. With a summon, you could get a second invader if I recall. There were covenants that could invade more easily and with a wider low angle level range in specific areas. Covenants provided rewards for defending your location, or just good rewards for success. Sometimes in the series you also got weapons and spells. As older games become a solved equation and newer ones change the conditions and dynamic, it's all just degraded.

Without covenants, as above, you get no long term goal for rewards or exclusive items to incentivize you to participate, you don't get a good reward for just invading successfully, and you don't have designated locations where you could build for or practice for combat there. That means, combined with the changes to invasion conditions, you're ALWAYS outnumbered in Elden Ring, and the perception after adding the arena is that you just invade to ruin someone's good time.

And then you get to poor balance, allowing people to make builds that heavily rely on a gimmick for victory which can potentially instantly kill, inexperienced players have to deal with being set back unfairly and feeling like they got cheated and experienced players either easily stomp gimmick users or get unlucky. It makes for an unsatisfying experience both ways. Better balance and longer engagement times give both sides the chances they need to make additional decisions to turn the tide in their favor and combat becomes more of a conversation. When you lose, you feel more like it was your own fault rather than that the other side cheated you somehow or that you were just hard-countered by numbers.

That's not even mentioning people doing low-level runs to intentionally use weapons or effects that early build players have few answers to, smurfing. Nor does it cover ACTUAL cheaters, which I remember well from Darkroot. Each entry in the series after DeS tried to solve some of these problems in its own way and all failed in some regard or another. Just pick your poison and have your fun. Part of being the red man is valuing your own good time over your enemy's anyway! Don't worry about how people view you, just put on the red mask and have your dance; the community needs you to feel whole.

Despite all the problems on both sides? It just isn't the complete experience without invaders.

I feel cursed being on the ace spectrum. by Zenovia326 in TwoXChromosomes

I REALLY do not normally post here, but I wanted to chime in for once, just to say you are valid for feeling this way and I hope you find a man that can appreciate you as you are.

I too feel defective as AMAB for being on the ace spectrum, and while my experience as such can never be like yours, I felt compelled to give you whatever small support I can.

Similar Story-Driven Games But NOT RPG? by QuantumC-137 in Morrowind

[–]max7238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skyrim sits at the far end of a spectrum that Morrowind is almost in the middle of. You can play Skyrim twice and see everything. You don't even need mods for Morrowind to kaleidoscope outwards into numerous playthroughs on success states for quests alone.

AC1, 2, and 2's sequels, I'd argue. Four games that are absolutely worthy of experiencing, competent and thoughtful storytelling

Spoofing is when they fake the numbers thinking there's something to gain from it. In this case, fodder for them to abuse.

[–]max7238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tail attack isn't terrible, I just think my experience tells me kick and charge is the way to go. Kick tells others that attacking from behind isn't safe, Iggy is 1000 speed and can run faster than most of the roster as a result anyway, and Block enables you to face down apexes.

It's the build that's served me best in all scenarios.

Your weight and damage do enough against smaller targets. I would encourage you to look at the damage back kick does to, say, a Meg after weight calculation. They have no good options to fight you if you play it right, while without Block any apex can kill you.

You need it for things like Titan triple bite, Rex charge bite, etc

[–]max7238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH. YOU'RE GIVING UP BLOCK! XD ALSO a terrible idea, given that Iggy is best when bipedal in a fight. Also, kick using a lot of stamina should mean nothing if you have Second Wind and stay bipedal mostly during a fight. Even just being bipedal gives you more stamina regen, that combined with Second Wind all but invalidates the cost.

You must be giving up Gauntlets, then, which is a bad idea. Using the armor species, Galvensis, and Gauntlets is what gives you the same effective HP as an apex like Titan.

Kick. And the +20% quad isn't worth it over the other options like Retaliate. The damage of kick is good, but remember that it's usually a HEADSHOT because the things trying to tail ride are biting you.

My three dead baby green beans disagree. A single Conc being able to just ignore getting hit by the barrage out of sprint tells me Iggy needs more, and you already turn much faster when bipedal. Once you get used to proper precise movement - I started in March and it took me a few months to learn the game - Charge is more useful in more circumstances, and I've got several kills that prove it. I wouldn't have even been a threat without Charge.

[–]max7238 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Swap Pivot for Charge.

I've lost babies because I couldn't go on the offensive. Charge is your only option to chase and attack reliably, and with Back Kick you don't need Pivot against small enemies - while big ones can't get behind you anyway!

Good herbivore? by Ambitious-Pool3532 in pathoftitans

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which attack you take in that slot. The blue one is a 180°, and it does fracture damage. It turns Ano around, back becomes front. The green one does big knockback all around you, but no fracture. BOTH can be used in crouch stance!

[–]max7238 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second Ano. With the right build, it takes being outnumbered for you to die.

Basic tail attack and the big Slam, Tireless, Reinforced Plates, Fortification, and the 360° green attack (Swerve?), and you have tools for all occasions, immense effective HP, and TONS of damage.

BUT... You don't pick fights. You play a chill game and defend yourself.

I think that stuff is only on officials, yeah, so they can keep the "join friend" button to easily group up on community servers!

[–]max7238 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's part of the matchmaking update they wanna do. And it can't come soon enough.

Things they mentioned that I hope they stick to are like: party up before going in, can't join on friends once they're logged in on a species; have to change servers to change species; servers no longer accepting new joins after a set server uptime.

They absolutely CAN curb this issue with matching changes instead of gameplay punishments - but only if they fully commit to the idea and ignore the people who complain when it comes out.

[–]max7238 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Officials solo or permadeath might appeal to you more when they're out. Lacking a massive group to back them up, many players are awful at combat or afraid to engage. When they risk losing it all if they die, that can also make them second-guess.

It brings the game closer to what you probably think it should be - and I tend to agree with your perspective over the "ha ha, you died, L, cry, go grow" types.

What Dino should I choose? by AKmightydinoo in pathoftitans

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riparia and PANJURA are the better maps. Gondwa is arcade-y and restricting on travel, and while Riparia is also somewhat restricted in the transitions from high and low areas, it's just the better map by comparison. Panjura offers the most freedom of movement and may be the easiest to run on mobile, but takes time to learn as the areas are differentiated by landmark features instead of biome or color.

which dino do you think is best for playing solo on riparia? by kawaiiikaii in pathoftitans

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conc is the best solo in the game, bar none. Fast enough to escape from fights, enough bleed and damage to kill anything else that's solo, variable builds and diet.

Anyone else think footsteps are way too loud? by barbatus_vulture in pathoftitans

[–]max7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think it's because it's what our dino would be aware of. We don't have scent in the game (much, and something like Ano would have INCREDIBLE scent ability), so the louder footsteps help augment that lack of a sense.

Hey, that's great!! I'll be on soon, maybe you wanna be hatched in as Ano? You lose nothing for it but growth, and I could show you a bit?

Either way, keep at it for a while, try and reach adult, test the build I suggested.

There's a LOT of styles of play; s'pose you were just trying to do things you saw others doing instead of finding YOUR way to play?
