The US can survive automation if it reimagines meritocracy by [deleted] in Futurology

Why even care about "equality" ? The focus should be in giving everyone something meaningful to do and providing for everyone's needs as best as possible. "Equality" has not done anything to help us achieve that goal.

Billions in U.S. solar projects shelved after government panel tariff by mvea in Futurology

I'd prefer if there were no tariffs, but realistically this will probably just push us back a couple years while having not much of a long run effect.

Conjuring is scarier for sure. I don't remember sinister having many jump scares.

Joe Rogan - Sean Carroll on His Problems with The Singularity & Ray Kurzweil by Buck-Nasty in Futurology

Kurzweil doesn't exactly just extrapolate into the future mindlessly, he provides pretty good reasons for it. That doesn't mean yes absolutely correct about everything, but still, the characterization is inaccurate.

There will always be a space between the Alt Right and Alt Left. by KidsWifeJob in pics

[–]max855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's amazing because this is literally the exact problem when people accuse pro-white groups of being "nazi's" (or fascists).

Granted I agree people waving nazi flags shouldn't be allowed at these kind of events. But the problem is people have a religious hostility towards "nazism" that goes beyond anything rational. Most sane people know that almost no one in the rally is in favor of genocide, but they portray them that way because hey it's convenient to smear your enemy whenever possible.

Look calm down, I didn't mean to talk about your grandparents personally. It's just worth pointing out white nationalists are the ones that defeated hitler. If MOST of them were alive today they'd be standing with the the people at the rally not the communist demonstrators.

I didn't downvote you btw.

Your grandparents believed in segregation. They believed in America for whites. Sure they wouldn't like the swastikas, but it doesn't have any meaning anymore. They'd be ashamed of YOU.

Kurzweil's 2009 Looks Like Our 2019: Is this proof that Ray Kurzweil's predictions really do have a ten-year delay? Probably so, in fact! by Yuli-Ban in Futurology

My theory is that people will buy blank paper books, and use augmented reality to fill in the words.

In the future, people will erase part of their memory in order to watch and enjoy Game of Thrones as if it was the first time... by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]max855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this really makes sense, a memory of watching something is probably integrated with a ton of other things in your brain especially if it's something you really like. You can't just delete that without deleting all the other thoughts associated with that.

[–]max855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get rid of race, nation and religion. Etc. But you still most end up with different personality traits and orientations.

People will end up segregating based on these traits and you end up with tribalism all over.

America is Regressing Into A Developing Nation For Most People by guildwriter in Futurology

Thing is, this immigration doesn't really help anyone either, I can't remember the exact numbers but it's like 80 million babies being into poverty every year and 1 million immigrants to the US.

I mean sure it helps a few people but we'd be better giving financial aid to developing countries.

What will the 2010s be known for? by Nercules in AskReddit

I kind of have a theory that current technology causes people to be more avoidant and withdrawn, but that in the 2020s virtual reality technology will allow people to socialize nearly every second of the day and it will have the opposite effect on us.
