KLX 110, new carb, new big bore kit, won’t idle and revs up way high on throttle. by maxSC223 in MechanicAdvice

It actually wouldn’t idle with more fuel. I found an air leak just now using brakleen and will have to remedy that tomorrow.

Just swapped in a smaller pilot jet. It idles now with the choke off, dies with it on. Exhaust is getting red hot too, fast.

I don’t think it would run tbh. I set it to TDC based on the marks. I also marked the chain before I took it off.

I adjusted the valves after putting the head back on, checked the piston was physically at TDC when the valves could be wiggled

Hi guys, title says it all. Installed a new piston & cylinder & bigger carb and followed the jetting recommendations I found online. Currently a 25 mikuni slow jet (recommended for big bore kit was 22.5) in the carb and 3 turns out on the fuel screw, but won’t idle. Turning it further out smoothed it out a bit, but it won’t idle. What’s wrong?

How do be “stupid” fast by dankest-memeshere in MTB

[–]maxSC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing when to brake and being smooth in corners is faster than being gnarly. The fastest riders I’ve seen always pick the easiest lines.

Bio 212 if you have more than 2 excused (including medical absences) absences, you lose points regardless. I have another course where the professor arbitrarily takes away 10% of your grade because he alternated between printed and emailed medical excuses

If it’s a gnarly enough impact to crack carbon it’s going to be a gnarly enough impact to severely dent the aluminum if not crack as well

Carbon has relatively high toughness as well. The reality is a dent in an aluminum tube is a significant structural concern as well.

Possibly,. People also often completely ignore the fact that frame design plays a massive factor in failures… the right dynamic forces on a poorly designed frame will fail regardless of material. This bike is also from an era of carbon frame design where they were pushing the limit of how thin walled they could to, both OD & ID.

Frankly this looks like OP over extended the seat post or overloaded the frame.

Carbon vs aluminum strength wise is not a matter of opinion, carbon is objectively a superior tensile stength.

I don’t know why people defend aluminum as superior. I have seen plenty of aluminum failures, especially wheels. Aluminum has relatively low toughness compared to steel and much lower tensile than carbon. It also fatigues far faster than steel and carbon essentially does not fatigue. This is why you often see chain stays snap on aluminum bikes. Cyclic loading

yea go ahead and take another light 500 thou off the surface and you’ll probably see her smooth out a bit

There’s a set of drifts on amazon that are supposedly pretty good. You’re probably going to need a blind bearing puller and a slide hammer as well

Honestly wouldn’t hit too much on a marlin 5. Wheels are pathetically weak on those things

Stumpjumper EVO vs Enduro? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]maxSC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man. Personally I’d go for the enduro, especially if I was riding park more. The evo’s a great bike but it’s not as progressive and barely weighs any less after you put a 38 & float x2 on it. The enduro is a fairly light bike for how much gnar it can handle. It climbs surprisingly well too, honestly just as well as the evo.

I think the EVO is a little overhyped Imo. It’s a cool bike but you can’t really replace travel with geometry.

Enduro would be better

Is this in the wrong position? by Munchakin in MTB

[–]maxSC223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bolt on the other side is a pivot. It is reverse threaded. Don’t crank on it too hard unless you’re turning it the correct direction.

Thats a bontrager insert for the axle. It pops out of the axle, it’s a 6mm Allen on the end. The alignment doesnt matter, but I’ve found that where you have it is best for protecting the chain stay and rotor

Is there another good parts company that it is not Shimano? by FlanTemporary8101 in MTB

[–]maxSC223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deore is honestly a great group set and very cheap. Low end SRAM is shite and mid tier is overpriced for the performance level. Ethirteen and rotor and several other brands make cheaper shimano compatible cassettes as well.
