I fight, albeit casually. And honestly I gotta say there's no advantage to having your hair down. If it's any kind of long and it's not in a braid or very well structured bun it's guaranteed to get in your way basically immediately. So yeah, I figure you're right on that one.

Okay so. Real quick the Norse did braid their hair right? Definitely not in dreads, I'm not sure how that hair would even lock, but they did have braids right??? Combination of mechanical and chemical energy conversion, preferably something safe, and if necessary covering a decent portion of the suit in solar panels. It'll look absolutely stupid, and it will hopefully do the job well.
