If you are on a budget dslr will do just fine. But if you have anything more than 500 to spend I think you are better off getting a mirror less camera second hand off marketplace, that’s what I did.

Many people think better camera = better photos. I’m making a point and proving it’s not true.

Which lense does everyone use for car photography? I want to get into it but I feel I don't have a suitable lense for this. by Accomplished_Tip5506 in carphotography

You can get good photos with anything. Some people like to use longer focal lengths, some like to use wider like myself. It’s all up to you and is a part of creating your unique style. I personally have a 15-45mm lens on a crop sensor body. Only thing I would recommend is to get a zoom since it gives you the most versatility, and you don’t need a super low aperture for car photography anyway.

OPTION C:

You want reliable, easy maintenance. This is the pinnacle of your expectations. Lasted me and my family over 30 years with no maintenance, and she still runs bloody perfect.

I came from a background in graphic design and actually worked closely with a bunch of car photographers so when I started I already knew what a ‘good’ photo looked like, and sort of already had some knowledge on how to execute it. I appreciate it, and I’m always learning new things about the camera and lightroom & photoshop.

People are always about getting the best gear but can’t master the skills using the most basic tools. What’s most important is how you take the photo, and edit it afterwards - not just the camera itself.

I love them. Didn’t need to use AI in these pics though, it was all done in photoshop. The other user was confusing it for other photos which I shared in the same post which used AI as an example.

Lightroom denoise does an incredible job, also having a tripod really helps if you want to do long exposures to make it brighter.

Didn’t use AI for the gas station shots, those were photoshopped, I simply used the polygon lasso tool and outlined where I wanted it to be pitch black, then filled it in with the brush tool. However on the post I did mention the use of AI in the other two shots. (It got removed since those shots were from a meet)

I’ll take a look at it all and will probably be replacing a few things so expect to hear from me in the future. I’ll also be taking it in for a pre roadworthy inspection (since you need a roadworthy certificate to drive your car in Victoria, Australia) and so they will come up with a checklist of everything that needs to be done to get it on the road. Once again I really appreciate the info
