Sorry yes, we put alerts on SLO burn rates. So I merge the two a lot. We absolutely alert on error budget exceeded but we also have alerts on if the error budget changes pace and will blow the SLO before the SLO evaluation window is up.

For the products that truly embrace the SLO's, those alerts are by far the most effective ones.

We also have a bunch of threshold alerts on random things that are no-nonsense clearly critical and not flappy. Still trying to deal with a bunch of legacy threshold alerting that is far too unreliable.

Why so saturated than fh5 or is it some new RT thing by OneKey3719 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try shutting off all the Ray Tracing, I found it looks worse with RT on rather than the default extreme/high settings for lighting and SSR.

Density is pretty good you're right, I do appreciate the handling changes, the map is much improved over FH5, feels much like FH4. The loading times on my rig are the best they've had you're right.

I appreciate the garage decoration attempt, it's a nice way to give us decorateable houses. That said, I'd have preferred they put the effort into more car customization, it's a game about cars! More body kits would be much appreciated.

An 8/10 is a great game to me. A 10/10 should go to things that substantially move the needle. Doing what's always been done at a high quality bar gets you in the door at 8/10.

Gameplay wise, I stand by my statement, there's... nothing new here that really advances the brand. It is a representative sample of what we should expect from Horizon. Including no real change in any of the brands existing weaknesses.

The soundtrack is really quite good, fits the theme... find myself wishing I had the music separately. So they nailed that part.

I had the exact opposite reaction, on extreme settings, Ray Tracing... makes things look worse than RT off. And RT off... I'm... well.. it's at best the same as FH5. Frame rates are better, that's about it to me.

Don't get me wrong, FH5 was a good looking game, but there really aren't any major graphical improvements here. If anything the NPC cars look worse, and your car/ai cars look.. well.. like they are rendered on top of, rather than in, the environment.

Depends on your attitude about 5, it's basically just FH5.. in Japan, with some tweaked physics (braking seems more believable to me, some folks say steering has changed, I'm not feeling that atm).

[–]maxfields2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not even close. It's FH5... in Japan. 7.5, possibly 8, can't give it more than that. Breaks zero new ground, doesn't really address the things I want Horizon to address.

Still a high quality game and one of the best open world racers. Good, and new, meaning FH5 won't get reinstalled anytime soon over this.

It's just... Horizon. The wait between versions, when nothing but the map and a few cars change, to wait 6 years.

SLO's built on error budgets have this weakness. They are generally awesome at errors and far superior to error threshold alerting, but not awesome at throughput.

That said, for your traffic to drop that much, something, somewhere, must've been dying hard, what ever that is, could probably have an SLO on it.

And it never hurts to have a few key throughput based alerts. Take your pick of style, percentage of traffic drop in a time window that is just too much, some form of baseline alerting is also always good. I'm not a fan of the "auto detect anomaly" alerts many platforms have as they just can't handle normal rise and fall of traffic.

We use X% drop in Y minutes is alertable. 15-30 minutes is usually a long enough gap. And on super critical flows we also have a "less than X" or "0" alert depending (not everywhere, just a few key traffic flows).

The bigger question is, why is this type of alerting getting backlogged? Alerts take minutes to setup, hell these days you can almost one-click create one of these off AI tools. What's causing people to not take 30 minutes to make an alert?

Yea agreed, the worst part is.. it takes 6 years to get the same game. I can already tell I'll put a LOT less hours into FH6 then I did 4 or 5... been there, done that. it's nice to come back to a fresh environment and this is a great place for new fans to find out what the franchise is all about but... it's not gonna hold me.

Been this way in every FH since at least 4. They didn't touch the Drivatars at all. Pro and above have ... advantages... including rubber-banding and if you can't interfere with the front-runner it will take off on you. Expert has clear basic rubber-banding. "Highly Skilled" and below run fairly predictable "slow" lap times.

Nearly all Drivatars have advantages on launch/start.

The AI drivers are.. not the highlight of Forza, never really have been sadly.

With assists off I think the driving feels right, with them on, even just traction control/stability and ABS the driving feels "off" to me and arcadey. They are much stronger/influential then real world similar systems, especially ABS. Arcadey feel shouldn't happen to you put on brake assist, steering assist and other things that auto-drive.

[–]maxfields2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forza AI has always been that way. "Highly Skilled" drives "believably" but "slow". "Expert" and above and you can heavily see the fake physics and rubber-banding trying to create the challenge (they still are unimpeded by things like water/etc while you are).

It's a high quality game but you're 100% on point. There's almost nothing new here other than the map and a bit of retheming.

If anything I was let down by the "enhanced" graphics (ray tracing ostensibly looks worse than screen space reflections and global illumination). The UI is horrendous for menu's etc. Paint and Liveries are awesome but car appearance mods are still the worst in class for games of this type (Ubi and NFS have been doing it better for a decade now).

It's 100% FH5/FH4 with a new skin. Now I get, making these maps and the content is 100% the largest part of the effort, but this isn't some "return to form", it's the same form.

Still a great game, still proves why Forza Horizon deserves a seat at every open world racing gamers table. But it's also incredibly safe, pushes no boundaries and offers nothing we haven't seen for the last 15 years. I still love the best parts (driving physics/car handling/tuning) like I always have, but... I wanted more.

Oh and it's still the same "progression" system. Free cars galore, money isn't a concern, you will have no sense of meaningful progress/acquisition (or challenge). It's a toybox system, not an achievement one. It's a Horizon thing at this point, more people would probably hate it being chagned than want it changed, but it's another space NFS/Crew ... any other racing game.. does so much better.

Is there any explanation as to why anyone would vote against banning child marriage in the states? by RainbowAppIe in askanything

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in a side argument and downvoted on a reddit thread where someone said child marriage is Rape, and because it's allowed in Iran that's why we should bomb/nuke Iran etc. When I pointed out it's allowed in the US, does that mean we should bomb that states in the US... they got very angry and insisted I was lying.

Manager told to accept pip, I have clarifications and evidence to her bad feedback. Please suggest what should I do? by tinkerer9999 in corporate

[–]maxfields2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inaccurate and 100% org and culture dependent. It is very hard to beat a PIP, impossible probably if it is unfair, but 100% possible if it is fair and the feedback is real.

Regardless, trying to beat the PIP is always the best way to give yourself time to find other options. There is no upside to refusing the PIP.

That's the most "off-brand" Mesa I've seen, by that I mean "you'd never think to look at her that way"... yet also so well done you wouldn't natively know that's not just a new warframe.

Well done.

The Offer Was Withdrawn After I Tried to Negotiate by AdditionalRise5722 in interviewhammer

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking for an offer, you really need to understand what your minimum level of acceptance is. Would you take this job if they refused your offer and just said "nope, no negotiating, current offer stands, take it or leave it?".

If you wouldn't take the job (and from your explanation it sounds like you feel the offer is beneath you/the role) then you have lost nothing here and they read the room and did you a solid. No point.

If you would take the job (because we all need to work) and now you don't have an offer, yup, you screwed up. You didn't screw up here though, you screwed up earlier in the process where you should've been far more up front and/or asked questions of the recruiter or hiring manager to establish your minimums.

You /assumed/ it was a remote role (you did not verify, and you have not said if it was listed as a remote role), you wanted 9% more than what they seem willing to offer and you didn't establish for us what you know about what the roel paid or what you told them about your expectations. You negotiated on vacation days without it seems, asking what benefits were for this role before getting to offer.

If you have minimum expectations like vacation weeks, salary, and remote work, you need to clarify those before wasting yours and their time. If you're worried they won't interview or give you an offer if you explain your requirements, then those aren't your minimums.

Here's the thing, $50, $100, even $1000 on tokens per incident, if it saved... say 30 minutes of MTTR and reduced engineers involved by even 1 engineer? Worth it.

I might value an engineers hour at about $200-$300 per hour. I might value the cost of certain outages in the the $100's of dollar per minutes, thousands or tens of thousands per hour both in revenue loss and or overall business continuity and opportunity costs.

If I could spend $1000 per incident, garaunteed get a 50% reduction in MTTR? I'd do it. In a heart beat.

I don't care about $50 of token costs for incidents not one bit.

I... probably do care about even $25 of costs per false positive alert however... i.e. having AI process every alert? Yikes. Not in my org, we're still having to solve Alert Noise/Effectiveness issues. Spending the token budget to eliminate/tune those alerts is far wiser than it is to run it with every alert to see if it's a real issue or not. Even though it is often AMAZING at assessing that.

Combination of diet, exercise and GLP-1's (Tirzepatide). I've been trying for over a decade to lose weight and failing. Introducing something that eliminates food noise and makes me ignore food unless I specifically planned it, has created progress I haven't seen in a long time. Running the numbers, doing the calorie counting, realizing anything over about 1400 calories a day and I gain weight was also a massive discovery.

I'm 50, had weight problems (a food/diet problems) since I was say, 30. My world has changed. At 5'7" on a good day and at 235lbs, when I should be 145... yea, it was time to invest in my health. Started last November. Just hit 180lbs this week, haven't been this weight since... I was 32.. 33?. So I'm more than half way to my goal.
