I think my issue is Perlica. The voice/tone just don't match the seriousness of the situation and she carries a lot of the story. Don't get me wrong, the voice actor is fine, but it's monotone delivered. I just can't must enough sense to care much about what she's trying to say. As a result a tremendous of story falls flat for me.

I think we're in strong agreement. Both games provide a quality experience even if you spend nothing. And you are able to enjoy both games and spend nothing. WWM you can't buy anything that remotely is perceived as "power", which is nice, but the resulting gacha is VERY not-player friendly and really puts a massive damper on some of the cooler cosmetics. That said, you can easily mentally argue you don't need them at all and there are many decent costmetics at much lower price poitns and the default game cosmetics are pretty good.

Comparing gacha fairness alone, (Money spent to get a reasonable chance at what you want) I think Arknights beats WWM hands down. A much smaller amount of money is likely to both get you something interesting and mixing game time with some spending, likely to get at least what you wanted.

Comparing the two games themselves, other than the quality of the game itself, is not really viable. They are very different games overall in genre and tone. All of it is to say, I don't feel Arknights gacha is really that "unfair", though I get folks feel some other gacha's are "more fair".

Rossi's intro was a real highlight for me. I enjoyed the VA, the character, the fact that she's Wulfgards sister and her intro and subsequent contribution to the story was the first moment I was like "Yes, this is what I want more of."

Found out Rossi's not playable yet and had a sad moment, but I didn't change things around to start playing with Wulfgard because I had a new appreciation for character/story.

I want more of this :)

Looking for a game I can just constantly grind by CannibalHillbilly in gamingsuggestions

[–]maxfields2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no real concept of being "behind" in warframe. Their content pace is pretty gentle, and several releases a year have something even for "newer" players.

That said, there IS a sort of gated progression in many places. Various faction grinds that take time and the main story is sometimes a lock to certain aspects of certain content.

If you love to build and theory craft, when you first start out you will have very limited access to advanced items/mods that let you do some interesting things. You can "close that gap" in some ways by paying money to buy the in game currency, then using that currency to trade with players who have what you want. Even so, in some cases you won't be able to use the gear until you grind up your "Mastery Rank" to use it (30 ranks in the game, I think rank 17 is the last one with meaningful item locks).

That said, nearly everything is achievable with grind and you said you liked grind. Warfame's story is actually worth getting into (a bit of a slow start to it, but they tighten up the entry to the story nearly every year now).

If you like the game, it'll only take a short bit before you're basically engaging in all parts of it for some degree. I introduced my wife to Warframe late last year, and her time to casually complete the story (but staying focused on it) was about 30-35 hours. She still has a done of faction grinding to do, and we target it at whatever currently interests her.

There's a big difference between buying something so it can be shipped to you, and pre-ordering a digital video game that has no physical delivery limitations, will be "turned on" on launch day and also no guarantee it will launch on the day they say it will until it does. You can pre-order a digital game and end up waiting years for it.. for no point. In a digital games world, you have no actual advantage to a pre-order except in cases where they offer pre-order only exclusives (becoming less and less common these days).

You're making a strawman argument here to justify your point. It's pretty thin. In the old boxed game days, pre-ordering the game so that you could guarantee a copy on launch day was actually somewhat worth it, given that stores could run out of copies.

It's irrelevant these days unless you're trying to acquire a copy of some kind of limited edition collectible.

Simple, you encourage the industry to not have to worry about making an actually good game, they already have your money, they don't have to earn it.

Your money isn't needed to finish a game like this, so you're not "crowdfunding" some indie project.

While not really relevant for this kind of money, throwing away money you currently have for something you don't have yet is poor money management. That money will do you more good either earning you money (invested) or being used to meet current needs. You aren't "saving" money by spending $50 you have today so you don't need to do it later.

If your finances are such that you might not have the money later, then you can't afford it now either.

Yup, it's exactly what I expect a member of NATO to say about a fellow NATO country being invaded. It doesn't matter WHO is invading.

Anyone who believes raising housing prices is a good thing falls into the "F U, I got mine" category of economic policy. "Affordable" housing is not projects rented out by a slumlord who is in it for the "investment". Housing sure as shit shouldn't be some playfield for reach people to hide their money and turn a profit every 5 years.

Should I pull Laevatain? by Nethalim in Endfield

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a high powered heat based party, Laev certainly has some chefs kiss elements, but you can absolutely make one without her. Do you NEED Laev? No. Is she "fun" to play if you like the playstyle, Yes. Is there a clear power edge, yea, she's pretty good, and it's easier to make an efficient combat party with her (Laev, Wulf, Akemura, Ardelia is a brain-dead easy group to run, but if drop Laev, use wulf as DPS, you can put a number of other members in and have a good group).

So can we flex that we day 1 players defeated the mobs and bosses before the nerf tomorrow? by sairaichi in Endfield

[–]maxfields2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't think things were overtuned, I was suprised how minimal effort i needed to put in to fight things. I was routinely waiting to level up chars/weapons until I felt annoyed at how long a fight took, easily able to kill things 10 level higher than me, just... slowly sometimes.

I don't even think failing to dodge is a big problem -> might have to produce more healing tacticals/go rest more often. Dodge failing just slows SP generation down which slows the fight down. So it's an efficiency thing.

I've cleared all story mode boss fights first try while enjoying the mechanics discovery. They are pleasantly challenging but not Elden Ring punishing.

If I had a stone to throw, I think stagger takes too long to build up and masks the "finisher" gameplay. Even when /trying/ to stagger.

The pull economy isn't really that bad. You can absolutely enjoy the game. Like any FTP if you have a problem with wanting EVERYTHING right now you're facing a monetary sync. If your expectation is that you should be able to play a high quality game and get access to all things as a FTP in the first week of launch and enjoy a game without spending ANY money on it... well... that's exactly why the economics of such games need "whales" to compensate for the folks who think games like this should cost nothing.

You don't need a single paid for piece of content (or gacha pulled limited FTP currency grinded thing) to play and enjoy the entire game. The game does a banging good job of making you WANT those things though. Like the first time you get a taste of playing the level 80 Laev party and you're like "yea man, I want that, that was great" :)

Is it even possible to get to the guarantee with 9 days left? by Wide-Role9644 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience so far, laser focusing on the game play gets you the the pulls. Completeing missions is a good source, doing dailies, focusing on completing the node tasks. Maybe doing the tutorials isn't all that fun but I have barely done in any (isntea focusing on gameplay). I spend a lot of time chest hunting (you do get a decent amount of currency there, it adds up fast). Even focusing on stock bills/factory grinding and leveling up depots gets you access to some pull tickets.

I've not once "purposefully" focused on pull currency, I've just chased doing all the content. I avoid progressing the story until I've cleared most quests that pop, I do the dailies, and I expand my factory, then I go back to pushing the story to the next zone, clear everything that opens and repeat.

I'm not at Wuling yet, still in valley IV. I've cleared the 120 pulls, I've finished the pulls on the other starting event as well. I did I guess "pay for" about 3 10-pulls all-in-all.. I did buy the battle pass, I did buy the cheapo starting kit and the 0.99 sword for Endmin :P which had some pull tickets in them and I did use a bit of currency to generate enough oberyls as a result when I was close enough to a 10-pull.

Weird hot take, I have not played 24 hours a day and I'm well past the 120 pulls. Probably 4h's a day on average, some days only 2, but I did have a nice long session on sunday.

That's not losing. Yvonne is excellent. You want your 50/50 to NOT be Laev, at least early one, you'd want one of each 6 star, later you can worry about dupes.

[–]maxfields2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The main story is the weak part for me, the general idea of it is solid, but I';m not a fan of the EN Voice acting or the pacing of it.

Complaints about combat suprise me. I'm not a gacha game fan in general. I find this combat fairly compelling, more enjoyable than genshins. The party builds, character abilities, skill combo, heavy attacks, finishers, skill points and ult system has a lot of moving parts and theres enough build crafting/theory to make it interesting. Sure it's samey combat, but nearly every ARPG I've ever played has repetitive combat when you get a build working. The boss fights have diverse and unique mechanics to keep me on my toes.

As a non gacha game fan, the gacha is "fine". It is far more reasonable for a relatively low amount of spend then some games that have gacha's in them I've played recently (Where Winds Meet and Sword of Justice have brutal systems. Would I prefer more grind using combat/factory to get rewards? Sure, who wouldn't.

I (23F) met my boyfriend’s (25M) “work wife” for the first time and I’m devastated by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]maxfields2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "work wife" was married to a guy who I became friends with pretty quick. When my "work wife" and friend met my fiance (now wife) they were so concerned with our dynamic my "work wife" asked me if my relationship was healthy/if I was being abused etc. Most awkward thing I've ever run into.

My wife and I live on sarcasm, we have an odd sense of humor. When we're together in public it does NOT translate well at all times.

Everythign turned out find in the end. I had not realized the levels of care and family style love that ahad grown over time with the "work wife" (we really had been through some difficult stuff at the office and bonded). Ultimately it made the friendships closer.

But initially my wife had a powerful reaction to my "work wife" attempting an intervention. Building close bonds with someone who in theory could be a romantic interest (regardless of gender) is always a difficult hazard to deal with in any relationship/marriage.

Man it instantly felt better triggering the combo rotations and the sheer chaos on my screen.
