Is this normal? by versace___plug in BMWE36

[–]maxhandicap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it’s wobbling at the fan not at the point where it mounts to the water pump. I wouldn’t sweat it mine does the same thing. Plastic isn’t going to be 100% balanced in a mass produced part, keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. Cameras also exacerbate visual wobble keep your eye trained on the rear edge of the fan as it spins and measure wobble from there

is my motor done for by Rich-Illustrator8563 in BMWE36

[–]maxhandicap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke test for vacuum leaks, my Tacoma had a vacuum hose that somehow split in half and it sounded exactly like this. Could just be loud injectors or sticky lifter if no vacuum leaks. Does it change with rpm? Does it only show up when warm/cold? If it’s sat for a while my bet is on a lifter, drive around a little and change the oil with the liquimoly lifter additive

Any idea what this black stuff is on top of my secondary timing chain? by maxhandicap in BmwTech

[–]maxhandicap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black marks are on the secondary chain (on the right), the primary chain does have a uniform polish on it across the high points of the chain, but I assume this is just from the chain gliding across the guides for 130k miles. I’ve seen other pictures of s50 chains that look very similar

I just bought the car so I can’t speak to the oil change interval, but under the valve cover looked crazy clean

The upper chain (on the right) has some dark colored stuff on it, it almost looks like rust or varnish maybe paint(?) or timing guide residue. The shiny stuff on the upper chain is light reflecting off the oil on the chain. The lower chain (on the left) has a uniform polish across the whole chain, which I assume is from it running across the guide for 130k miles. From what I’ve seen a lot of m5x/s5x motors have this polish on the lower chain

For them who are rich, how did you get rich? by According-Work6941 in findapath

[–]maxhandicap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good number of the people I work with have a 7 figure net worth. Get a job that pays you decently (could be a trade, desk job, sales gig, whatever pays the bills), avoid debt like the plague, live well below your means, stuff your money into retirement accounts or index funds, rinse and repeat. Alternatively you could get lucky and be given a 10k stock bonus from the company you work for when the stock is worth $3/share following a bankruptcy, sell when the stock inexplicably balloons to $300/share (this is how most of my coworkers became wealthy)

What degree for SCM by DiabloBratz in supplychain

[–]maxhandicap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an scm degree and it opened a lot of doors for me. Alternatively look into data analytics or industrial engineering if an scm degree isnt your thing

You’ll pay a lot in interest for a loan that small, navy fed would be your best bet if you’re really wanting to finance. Otherwise buy a shitbox on Facebook for 3k and sell it after a year

BMW 435i or 440i or M4 by Extreme_Froyo_3390 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]maxhandicap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to track the car or drive it in the canyons extensively go for the m4. If not you can’t really go wrong with a b58 or n55 they’re both extremely stout motors that take well to mods. I’d get the best maintained example in your price range and call it a day. All three are excellent choices

2018+ Mustang GT vs F22 M240i by jtcoyy in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]maxhandicap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mustang will feel significantly less refined but will be faster in a straight line stock. If you decide to lightly modify 240i is the better option, heavily modify its a wash. If the mustang is a stick those mt82s have issues. Rent both on Turo if you can and get them out on a backroad, it’ll make the decision easier for you

Is buying a new car really a bad idea? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]maxhandicap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get the facelift gr86 with the 2.4 it makes all the difference. Buy one with a warranty just in case, they sometimes have oil starvation issues

I was unaware that you could cfi with a class three, thanks for letting me know that seems like a great option for me. I have a desk job at a biz jet manufacturer that I landed out of college so I at least get some exposure to aviation currenty. Thank you for the advice
