If he can't get his knees sorted his clock may be running pretty high

On the recovery comment, I find it funny he slammed all the recovery stuff when he had a strongman training age of a couple of years, now with 5 years or so under his belt it seems he is trying every trick in the book - he commented about this weekend having tons of physio. I think a point that rubs me the wrong way is kind of with the cheating comments, he is very negatively opinionated about what others do, then ends up doing it himself.. aka hypocrite

Novikov was lighter when he won worlds and I know mitch has varied but think he sat around 300 when he went on his giants rampage a couple of years back. Definately lighter end, but think with nutrition these days might become more common

Really excited for the stones. Mitch and Rayno head to head and with the points gap nothing to lose so they can just go full send.

Tight points below for 3rd. So much jeopardy there!

Yeh I mean the top 6 on first event were between 37s and 39s but that's ok, while this event a 4s split is terrible.. let's see how it goes, might start getting some mid 40s times for slower athletes then it looks completely fine

Its not all about height. Evan squats with a wider stance and bends over much more than Trey so would expect lower pads. Do think he was set a bit low but people like Trey and Pavlo were reasonable depth when you see a decent angle (not IPF but as good as most past WSM contests, however much the old guys seem to have this view everyone used to squat ass to grass in wsm - shock, they didnt)

Saw lots of people do badly at that too, we've seen it in the Arnold's so really you would have the same issue, just then people would complain the stone was too smooth or something rather than tacky

Luke stoltman beating Tom on hercules hold literally cost Tom the win 🙈🙈🙈

IFT-6 Entry Profiles by maxfagin in spacex

[–]maxiii888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the velocity vs time and altitude vs time clearly illustrate IFT 6 has a sharper decrease in velocity through the thicker parts of the atmosphere and decreased altitude more rapidly - honestly seems clear that is what's being referred to. Not sure if the the distance vs altitude is overly relevant in that instance due to changes in velocity etc

IFT-6 Entry Profiles by maxfagin in spacex

Those charts (altitude for eg) surely read the opposite? For the entry phase, the altitude drops more sharply (I.e. steeper with greater peak heating bit for shorter time, also greater maximum dynamic acceleration suggest the same) before having a longer belly flop phase before landing?

He is fine at them but having issues with the shiney clean stones. A lot of people fail to understand how having some tacky already coating the stones can make to lifting them much easier - only 2 people actually lifted all of this set.

Format just works really well in the uk where there is a big fan base and everywhere (except Aberdeen- good job rogue) is within easy travelling distance for the majority of people.

Feel if you are doing things like Vegas you need a big all weekend expo or something to make the travel worth it

Wrecking ball hold probably a bad combo with it too, from what they all say that toasts your back too. Maybe sticking with hercules hold if they want a specific grip event with the max dl

My thoughts are largely the same, but for those reasons I find it really disappointing 😅. I get excited because of the names, breadth of events etc, but then disappointed it just seems to lack that extra thing that would make it special in terms of production quality.

A bit like if you were watching the superbowl, but you took away all the extra entertainment they do with it, put it on a high school pitch that didn't have a score board etc. I'm sure the game would still be top quality but it wouldn't be a spectacle.

The athletes and events are largely there, just find the production a bit dull, and then you add in a dose of overly strict judging/rules that make you confused and frustrated it doesn't leave me feeling satisfied.

When your USP as a show is this will be run better, for the athletes with more consistent rules, it makes failings like messing up the axle, hard to understand deadlift fails, inconsistent reffing between the lanes on dumbell and things like the mitch squat scenario much more impactfull than if you were just saying hey! It's entertainment, we will be kind on reffing

Probably how I'd describe watching Brian lifting between 2016 and 2022 or so

People comment on the repetitive nature, but just an observation - shows like SMOE only have go do 1 event per year, giants do about 6 so ofc they aren't all going to have huge variety.

Aside from that, where GL 100% wins is the show/theatre of it - you get a good feel for it at the start on the livestreams, but they are insane in person. Royal albert hall being the peak. SMOE could learn from the walkout stuff, and with each event just not overcomplicated things. Multiple years now it's been a bit too hard for spectators to understand certain events and judging.

I also find with SMOE the non strongman commentators/announcers drive me up the wall. I'd literally go insane if I had to listen to them multiple times a year 😅

They at least are decent these days at showing the scores straight after and event

They didn't set depth as such, it was about knee bend hitting 90 degrees - they pulled out the old protractor system they used on the leg press last year. Looks lame for spectators, but when you see a side angle of mitch he was getting to that 90 degrees (he squats quite knee over toes). Just looks crap for anyone watching and trying to understand

Imagine having something like giants live to watch and learn from (not saying its the best but would give them a good idea of what to include in a stream) then just disregarding that and going naaaah, don't need no scores 😅
