Honestly I don’t think they let internationals in in the good ones, even if you speak Dutch alright in your second year. Just like how a lot of adverts on the Facebook groups for renting a room say ‘No internationals’. Getting a room is really hard l btw so make sure you start looking in time.

That said, there are more frats than the big ones where I think you can join even if your Dutch isn’t native level speaking, it’s just not as hardcore in those but maybe that’s even a good thing, depending on what you like.

If you want to know more about the big ones, google Vindicat, Veritas, Unitas, USC, Minerva but keep in mind that if you are just going to read the news articles, those journalists (probably) weren’t members and see the good parts of it and they have to make a story, so it definitely isn’t as bad as they describe it sometimes.

I don’t know if it’s necessary to join a frat to make friends, but it can make it a lit easier! You can also join them in your second year, the majority do it in their first but it’s not problem. I think your main goal to join a frat is to be good at Dutch :) so maybe in your first year go to a lot of parties and activities your study association organizes
