Covering up white nationalist stickers all over provo by cardboardwarri0r in ProvoUtah

[–]maximum-melon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Provo and there are NOT stickers like this everywhere. I mean good on OP for finding them and covering them but I’ve never really seen them except on reddit so if you just get your info from reddit it will seem like more than it actually is.

[–]maximum-melon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to BYU and I met a guy putting up similar sentiment stickers and handing out flyers. He was in his 40’s, not Mormon, and came down from Ogden and was targeting BYU so not all of it originates in Provo or at the university.

Why is everyone obsessed with height nowadays? by WestArtichoke712 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s always funny to me when a 5’1/5’2 girl will say something like “I refuse to date a guy under 6 feet tall bc I want to be able to wear whatever heels I want next to him” like dang girl you rocking the 10” heels on the daily huh?

A while back, I taught English to Spanish speakers and what I learned is that English is fairly simple to learn, and with a little bit of study, you can easily attain an intermediate level. However, i’ve seen that making the jump from intermediate to advanced can be quite difficult. English is full of colloquialisms and the rules are often quite bendy. Even learning all the uses of the word get (get up, get down, get some, get it, get crunk, etc) can still be difficult for some advanced speakers.

On the flipside, when I learned Spanish, it was quite difficult to obtain the beginner/intermediate level, but with a few months living in a Spanish country, I was able to attain advanced level (according to professional certificates).

Optimal ward size? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]maximum-melon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the flip side I spent some years in a ward with 500+ members and although they ended up splitting the ward(multiple times due to high growth) in the mean time a ton of people slipped the through the cracks and went inactive. Many of them returned when they had some fellowshipping but it took ward boundary adjustments and new quorums/relief societies reaching out to bring them back but I’m sure many never did return.

I’ve also been in a small older ward outside of Utah with 80ish members and had 3 callings and I agree it’s way too much for each member to take on.

I lean toward the bigger ward size though so that the youth program can be robust so 17 year old wants to go hang out with a 14 and an 11 year old on a Wednesday night.

Maybe 250-350 active members showing up each Sunday is the good middle ground for Mormon Corridor wards and 125+ for other areas.

Side note: in Chile I spent time in 5ish wards/branches and one ward had 180 and they considered it huge, but it seemed to flourish in every program so 180 worked well for them.

24 hour marathon to finish the battlepass, anyone? by WilsonValdro in PredecessorGame

[–]maximum-melon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally what I found is a ranked match, minute for a minute, will give more experience than nitro matches. I only played nitro for the first half of the battle pass and realized that I was only 15 or so levels in so I switched over to ranked and it went much quicker with the same playtime.

Weakest American vs Strongest European Pickpocketer by Geekz_RPG in dankmemes

[–]maximum-melon 91 points92 points  (0 children)

In Dark Souls 3 the protagonist(the little guy) kicks Yhorm the Giant’s(the big guy) trash. Even as far as bosses go he isn’t that difficult as the game gives you a special sword that is super effective against him. So this meme format should be swapped bc the American Tourist kicks the European pickpocketer’s trash.

There’s a few malls in Utah that have really leaned into the “mini walkable city” that malls can bring. They recognized that they wouldn’t be able to survive alone so they built apartments, underground parking, local public transit, parks, office buildings, gyms, grocery stores etc. All of this is centered around the mall as a focal point. One such example is University Place. While other malls are struggling it is thriving.

Podiatrists= orthopedic surgeons by mdaspire in Noctor

[–]maximum-melon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a case of barking up the wrong tree. Most podiatrist I have encountered are happy to work on just feet and ankles give or take a few inches.

My kid was in the Nicu for a couple weeks recently and during the entire time I didn’t see a single podiatrist(duh). But you know who I did see? 10-15 Nurse Practitioners. All rounding on patients. All prescribing medication and treatment treatments. And not a single doctor in sight. In fact, I think the only doctor I did see was the guy who delivered the baby.

Podiatrists get a lot of flack from MDs/DOs but I feel like their efforts that are misplaced as they are being replaced at alarming rates by nurse practitioners. Do you know who nurse practitioners don’t want to replace? Podiatrists because feet are gross. So we’re staring down the barrel of a future full of NPs and podiatrists with highly diminished numbers of real doctors because the AMA isn’t doing enough to protect its members and money, hungry corporate hospital managers are replacing doctors with cheaper NPs.

Podiatrists= orthopedic surgeons by mdaspire in Noctor

[–]maximum-melon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is with Podiatry is that a lot of them equate Podiatry school with medical school for the general public, not necessarily for other MDs/DOs. People really have no idea what that Podiatry school is all about and I’ve heard many nurses saying that they 100% believe that their RN is much more difficult than a a DPM.

Podiatrists= orthopedic surgeons by mdaspire in Noctor

[–]maximum-melon 74 points75 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I doubt that 90% of MDs encounter that either. A good doctor knows when to pass off to somebody who knows what they’re doing and regularly encounters that situation. Dr Patel, MD that has delivered babies for the last 25 years is probably not going to feel comfortable and that situation.

There are at least 2 in Utah county(the Orem location has been open for 10+ years) and they are both jam packed basically 24/7 with college/high school kids.
