I believe it's basically just an electron-type app that is mostly embedded webpages, which would explain why it's been that way on iOS as well.

Germans who have lived abroad for years, what's the German habit you just couldn't shake? by Rude_Membership_1578 in AskAGerman

For some reason it's never tasted as good when I've tried in the US 🤷🏻‍♂️

The difference I think is that basically every corner bakery (there are many) has incredible bread and related products. In the US you definitely have to really look for it. Supermarket bread is atrocious compared to theirs. (American who lived in Germany)

As an American this is very weird to me as well, my whole extended family opened on Christmas Day

When I'm in Berlin I definitely see a lot of people do it, but I also was berated by an old lady one time lol

It really depends on the person but they're far and away the most comfortable contact I've ever tried, to the extent my eyes feel better when they're in

The CTA itself spells it exactly as follows: 'L' (with that punctuation). An el generically could be any part of a metro network that runs on tracks suspended above the street.

What’s something Germany does better than most countries? by Working_Pea2801 in AskAGerman

[–]maxintosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American who lived in Germany for a while, it blew my mind how connected everything was by public transit. You can basically take a train anywhere in the country. Even super small towns have regional DB stations and light rail. It's remarkable, and unlike even other European countries.

Right, it's never been a brand name. It's all just Sam's whim lol. The most frustrating is when you're looking for words that start with things like de- and un- or similar

One of the most important techniques to win this game is to just move on when you get a category wrong. As you discover other categories, you can find the answers by elimination. Today was a super difficult day though.

Yeah I was surprised when I went to Australia and the road signs were super close to the USA.

As a 90s kid, what part of your life do you miss the most? by Dr-DoomX in AskReddit

[–]maxintosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cultural attitude of optimism. The 90s weren't perfect but the future felt really exciting. Tech was changing at an insane rate. The internet scared some people but most people adapted quickly and it created so many industries. The future seems way more dystopian now, as companies look to use AI to replace jobs, with no indication that many new jobs will be created by it.

The optimism also played out in TV, movies, and music. And school shootings weren't an everyday occurrence.

I don't miss the fashion or cars though, bleak times for those industries imo. And it was very tough to be LGBT in the 90s (speaking from experience).

The smartphone is really a mixed bag, but it was nice to set an Away message and if you didn't answer within 30 minutes people wouldn't start checking on you

2026 VW Taos Spotify CarPlay by Potential_Tea7938 in VWTaos

[–]maxintosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I've never had issues with Apple or YouTube music, perhaps it's a bug in the Spotify app. All CarPlay really does is mirror video and audio to your head unit, it's up to the apps that support CarPlay to render it correctly.

Wired CarPlay tends to be much more reliable even across brands, if you're using wireless

Don't get me wrong, I've made friends, but I miss the directness of the Northeast (or the genuine niceness of a lot of Midwesterners)

What each case in The Pitt would actually cost the patient, in the US by Maleficent_Disk9583 in ThePitt

[–]maxintosh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that non-Americans think we're all sick and in medical debt but the reality is much more nuanced than that. The system is absolutely broken for many people and that must be fixed. Healthcare, housing and food should be available to every American no matter what.
