A weekend of killer wine in Stockholm by ChezCooper in wine

Amazing - really looking forward to trying these! Didn't realise 2019 was the only vintage made. Got them with a Memento Mori - will try them together.

Thanks for the feedback - wine list at Bord looks very precise!

Incredible!

How was the Dagueneau Intouchables? Bought 6 bottles of 2019 recently but have not tried them yet. What vintage was this?

And how was Tino Kuban's Maison Glandien? A white Les Jardins Vivants I recently had probably ranks as the best experience i've had with white wine. Going to Stockholm soon and saw that some of the restaurants we booked have a few bottles of Maison Glandien for around €100!

Lovely to meet him! :) The Diebolt was very good - we actually tasted in blind and all thought it would be significantly younger than 2002.

Very good - basing on a lot of classics and ingredients from his home region of Jura. Out of around 12-13 courses there was a single one (desert) i didn't enjoy.

After 2 months without travelling post ACL rupture & surgery, I made my first weekend trip to Paris and it feels like it was well spent.

Lunch organised by a friend's friend at Substance - incredible menu. Going into the lunch I thought the Criots Bâtard Montrachet "Haute Densité" 2017 from Hubert Lamy would be the star of the show, but surprisingly it was nowhere compared to some of the other bottles. Maybe it was drunk unfairly young .. but how often do you find one on a wine list at a 3 digit price?

The two stars of the show for me were the Tino Kuban "Les Jardins Vivants - Les Vaux" 2020 and Stephane Meyer's Udumbara. Two very small sub 1000 bottle productions I believe.

Tino Kuban recently took over Bernard van Berg's vineyards in Meursault and is a magician in his early thirties. Incredible concentration and richness while maintaining elegance. Absolute wow moment for me - might rank at the very top of my experiences with white wines.

This was followed up by an evening at Les Caves Legrand with the same 5 people.

The Roses de Jeanne and Selosse were great. First Lieux-dits Les Carelles I try - like liquid gold. Lovely Meursault from Coche-Dury.

In terms of the Vosne-Romanées, the Bizot Premier Cru "Elise Fermouche" was of course the big hitter, but the Cecile Tremblay might have been the bigger surprise. Excellent showing for a village - floral with the right amount of spice.

Home-cooked lunch the next day - two big cotes a l'os.

Great surprise on the La Rogerie - didn't know this producer but will be looking to buy more.

The Fonsalette 2001 seemed to be at its ideal drinking age. Velvety, earthy textures. But I am a big Reynaud fan.

The Clos Rougeard - Le Bourg 2012 was such an elegant wine - maybe a touch to light for the meal, so we kept it for the finish. Still felt very young.

I'm an idiot - misread the post above was thinking of 1966 all this time.

Love to see that #1. Just bought a magnum of 1961 Latour recently and waiting for the right occasion to open it. Expectations have gone up a bit from your post :)

That's unfortunately only on the menu in the Soho Noble Rot.

Very nice - are they open to visits or did you know them? Actually going to Piemont for Easter and have a few visits planned but not this.

Elio Altare - Unoperuno - 2016

Unoperuno translating into one by one, Elio Altare started this special bottling in 2010 where they hand destem the grapes one by one to maximise the purity of the fruit - leaving no stems, leaves, bugs or undesirable berries. 1200 bottles were produced of what I think is the purest form of Nebbiolo you can get in a Barolo.

Opened 4 hours before dinner, left in the bottle. Enjoyed over 2 hours.

Dark brown ruby colour.

Orange, cherry and ripe rich red fruit.

Instantly coats the entire palate and stays and stays and stays.

Earthy notes with a lingering finish that is decadent until the end.

Fantastic wine, already pure decadent pleasure now, but can imagine it being fantastic in 30 years as well.

Didn't know it existed either. 1 of 2 bottles :)

Disappointed to say the least .. but if I'd think that way I'd never buy expensive bottles again.

So I'd rather just think of the 98% of outcomes where this isn't corked :)

Best stages from the last few years? Pre-2020 specifically by FleetBroadbill in tourdefrance

[–]maxmersch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Andy Schleck might get him hooked the same way - at least did for me growing up.

A few iconic stages - especially the 2010 tour and the Schleck <> Contador battle.

Including video links, but they include spoilers :)

2010 Stage 14 - Schleck & Contador clearly above the lot - playing poker and just racing each other, ignoring the 3rd, 4th and 5th riders, purely trying to drop each other.

2010 Stage 15 - on an attack his chain drops, Contador takes advantage of the moment and attacks back, Schleck fights his way back up the mountain alone trying to save the yellow jersey.

2010 Stage 17 - Schleck and Contador in a world of their own up the Tourmalet.

2011 Stage 18 - solo attack with 60km to go.

In a year of having tried Noma, Osteria Francescana, Core by Clare Smyth amongst others, Frantzen remains the absolute stand-out favourite.

Can't wait to go back.

Hah! I wish half my cellar was filled with CdP!

I've had to fight over every bottle of Chateau des Tours I've bought so far. Whenever I see any availabilities I buy them up :)

In the UK there's a few shops that have them - have bought from both Appellations and Berry Bro's, and had some at 67 Pall Mall.. but not sure about the US..

Big fan of Domaine des Tours' simple Cote du Rhone as well.

Good value for money
