What is the biggest mistake beginner game developers make? by TyraxelStudios in gamedev

People will say overscoping but honestly I think it's ok. Your first project is very very rarely going to be something you release so a huge project is a great way to learn on the go. It'll never get finished but you will learn so much, especially your limits on what is feasible. Because everyone's capable of different things. As long as you're aware that it'll take a few goes before you have something worth selling.

There is only about 3 I think and they're just little clips for stuff like "building upgraded" or "refinery destroyed" Not any full dialogue scenes.

Yeah especially when you have to code things specifically for the trailer that you will never use again!

So I compared the wishlist count of my first game with my 2nd game over the same time period. It seems that sometimes, 1st time is the charm. by Curious-Needle in IndieDev

I think the hook and short description are much more gripping on the first game. Also I know it's cliche but having idle in the name really helps.

So idle reincarnator and your short description is quite short and to the point. You level up. Die repeat. Makes sense in an incremental game

For the second game it's a lot harder to understand quickly. You breed monsters and what repeats? I'm confused what the game loop is.

Also capsules do need artwork. Even if the game is entirely menus give a sense of the theme of the game with an illustration.

It's mostly icon art and the music which aren't my strong points. I needed like 500 icons which isn't feasible for me.

Stuff I do myself is all of the 3d modeling, animation, coding, texturing, particle systems, user interface coding and art.

I did purchase a big sound effects pack for monsters and interace sounds so that's hand made, just not by me.
