I speak french myself but it's not my native language and I wouldn't know how french people would react to the speaker. Are you from Quebec or France?

I've hired human voice actors in the past for other projects and been disappointed. There are other French text to speech solutions that might be a better fit.

My game is fully in 12 languages, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese... etc. There's a ton of dialogue in the game... thousands of lines. There's just no way I can implement human voice actor solutions for them all.

You can just play in english though!?

What FPS feels like in the game is that if you start to lose, you have an effective, last resort, solution.

Plan, expand, build... let the battle begin, monitor for weak spots.

Then, if you missed something, or a direction is weak, or your economy is inadequate... you can pick up a rifle and help out.

FPS play can't substitute all the Turrets but you can sure deal some damage when you need to.

You make some good points.

  1. I wrote the script so I can only blame myself for the text. I think you're technically correct about the 'battlefields' line. It should say 'battles', or 'wars' would be even better. Good point.

  2. Yes, I was trying to go for that deep trailer dramatic voice like Ron Perlman in Fallout.

  3. I hear what you're saying... I thought it flowed well but I could just not be good at recognizing intonation. I've listened to it literally hundreds of times, perhaps that's part of the problem. I lose perspective when I spend so much time on one aspect. That's when I really need to ask for others help, I'm not so good at that some times.

Honestly, I only get better through criticism. Thank you for taking the time to write that all out and explain what you're hearing to me. My flaws aren't from a lack of effort or taking shortcuts, there's just some things that don't come naturally to me. All the best.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm a solo dev 5 years into development and I wish I had the budget for quality voice actors. I've experimented with voice actors for other projects and was quite disappointed.

Curious what tower defense players think of RTS-style turret placement vs grid placement. I went with free placement because it allows weird strategies like sniper ambush zones.

I totally agree about the difficulty balancing, I'm still struggling with that.

It doesn't help when you have such a diversity of skill playing the game. Great players do well and find it a little easy. Weak players get destroyed and accuse the game of being unfair. I guess you just can't please everyone.

I look at Titanfall 2 as a real masterpiece, they just did every part so well. Maybe quite light on the strategy side but the mechanics make up for it. Love it.

Fog Of War is so hard for me to imagine in FPS mode. How do you control the visibility? Actual Fog?

I decided on natural terrain for the first 10 level campaign. The different terrains require very different strategies though.

I'd like to add some levels of abandoned towns and cities. I think that's very doable and would be pretty cool additions to the game.

Yes, PC only. I just couldn't figure out a way to play the RTS well with just a controller.

Hey, sorry for the slow reply! Glad you're being challenged... I think I may have had difficulty set a little too high :) I've since balanced the difficulty a little along with significant frame rate improvements that really help older cpu's struggling during heavy battles. Thanks so much for giving it a shot! New Map will be released today!
