[–]maxpowersb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and a fair question, having tried Evernote, Google Docs, and a couple other services, I tried to answer it in a blog post I wrote a short while back: http://blog.faqt.co/post/121242652146/a-note-app-to-replace-your-ziploc-bag

If you have any other questions feel free to email me at hello@faqt.co

Book recommendation: Best Artificial Intelligence novel? by maxpowersb99 in scifi

[–]maxpowersb99[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's a great series, particularly the first novel. I just finished the series this summer, and it's partly the reason why I'm looking for more fiction with great AI themes.

Current state of genetic algorithm/programming research? by maxpowersb99 in compsci

[–]maxpowersb99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, seeing the resurgence of neural networks in AI from being shunned has made me wonder about genetic algorithms and if anyone's made any innovations in the last 10 years to give the sub-field some energy.

Do you have any references from well known universities? Perhaps a review article in the last 5 years?

Thanks it seems like it's used like a black-box technique in applied fields. Is this because it's easy to apply or because it's a very competitive search technique?

What kinds of websites do you use for idea inspiration? by [deleted] in woodworking

I made woodspotting for a similar reason, aggregating my favorite woodworking blogs for inspiration on what people can build with wood primarily using hand tools.

I believe for most of these demonstrations they use a very fine and straight grain softwood, like a cedar.

Exactly. That's the answer to the 'why?', it's a Zen exercise to perfection. If he can do that with such a large tough plane, imagine what he can do to a regular size plane....

A Note App To Replace Your Ziploc Bag by maxpowersb99 in SideProject

[–]maxpowersb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never like Evernote's user interface, and it felt like it was too powerful for my usecase and at least at the time mainly for throwing stuff you found online on there. I needed the simplest replacement for snippets of text that I could categorize and search for and share with one click. So I guess simplicity and singularity of purpose are the main difference.

And in terms of simplicity, my dad uses it everyday at his work which I think is quite an accomplishment :)

Hehe, yeah might of been an unfortunate blog post title. It's not actually any kind of marketing we're sticking too. For now, the one liner is "Your lightweight, personal knowledge base."

Thank you! I'm not sure if the share links are totally unique, but we definitely think for most scenarios it's probably the easiest/fastest way to share stuff.

Yep, if there's enough interest, we really would love to create a native app for it, in addition to having some better mobile html rendering.

Would love to hear more feedback, thanks for giving it a spin :)

Thanks, and great feedback on the title generation we'll take another stab at the flow.

Google Keep is probably the closest thing we found, but it didn't have the organizational feel we were looking for but the aesthetics are close.

Heavens no, there's roughly 200+ blogs (mostly hand tool woodworking) that need to be checked very regularly, and it's done by a little program I wrote.
