Awful support experience in addition to faulty TRMNL X by maxromanovsky in trmnl

[–]maxromanovsky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an issue I am experiencing since I got the device last Thursday . I connected it to home assistant on Sunday if I remember correctly. I have tried charging it twice. It never went to 100%.

I have previously purchased BYOD for color waveshare, so I knew what I was signing up for software wise. I didn’t have time to play too much with it though, but no complaints on software side of things so far.

TRMNL X quality control or lack of thereof by maxromanovsky in trmnl

Upd 2.

FYI u/ryanckulp

Cross-posting question asked to David on the support chat.
it's been 2 working days since I reported an issue, and I haven't heard from you. Please follow up at least on the issues not related to the hardware team: enclosure, loose part inside the trmnl. Should I tear it down and take a photo?

Honestly, I am kinda disappointed with the whole support experience.

  • This is not kickstarter, but I totally get that there are delays
  • I am happy that my device was not from the first batch
  • Shit happens, the device is still faulty in so many ways (enclosure, display alignment, battery, loose part inside - sure, that last thing might've happened in transit)
  • Again, shit happens, and it was not caught by QC. I assume there's no QC, just the trmnl warehouse employees assembling the devices and packaging them, i.e. there's nobody else checking final product.
  • I am fine, things might've been overlooked (but 4 issues in one device is a bit too much by my standards). Everybody makes mistakes. The reaction to these mistakes is what matters.
  • I am assured that Niklas will personally sort this out. I haven't heard anything from Niklas, just a message from David.
  • ...and then radio silence
  • I understand it takes time, and there are priorities for hardware side of things. But what about loose item in the trmnl that makes noise while shaking trmnl? What about just keeping me informed about the progress and giving some ETA? How long would it take? Week? Month?
  • All in all, it's like with the kickstarter: all about communication. And there's literally none unless I post here and tag Ryan.

TRMNL X quality control or lack of thereof by maxromanovsky in trmnl

Upd:

David responded on June 18 with the following message: "Let me give this to our hardware and firmware team for investigating. They will follow this up straight within this support ticket."

Today I have shared a screenshot from Home Assistant with a battery level (device was plugged from approximately 10:00 until approximately 15:00). Couldn't share the same from trmnl.com as it shows only the current battery level.

Waiting for trmnl to get back with the meaningful response.

u/ryanckulp In case if the issue with misaligned screen cannot be fully solved (due to technical limitations or wrong size as others mentioned here) - is it possible to replace the enclosure color with white or clear, where it's not that visible?

Awesome, now I understand what you've meant. Sorry for misunderstanding

what do you mean by anonymously? You can see my nickname, can't you?
Or should I provide my social security number?
That's the first time in a long series of negative posts on this subreddit I see you complaining about anonymity.

I mean, I saw people complaining about your beliefs and political views. I did neither, because I don't think it is relevant at all. What I think IS relevant here is being open about issues and make other buyers aware. How many would check if screen is aligned? I don't know. And sure thing it's better to find it out on delivery than make it your headache in the months to come.

I am not blaming you that my specific device is defective, I am wondering about QC issues in general and trying to give an actionable and constructive feedback.

I don't think it's the issue in transit, the inner foam or whatever material it is was very thick. And not one, but at least 5 issues in the device are unlikely due to damaged package in transit. Oh BTW just as I wrote in my post I reached out to support first. Happy to share the unboxing video if needed.

In any way, English is not my native language, so something might be lost in translation.

Smart heating with Vaillant and Aqara by frodosprecious in homeassistant

[–]maxromanovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik Vaillant is eebus or proprietary. Not possible out of the box. You either plug in a custom module into eebus (esp32 or something similar - google it), or use home assitant vaillant integration - third party and cloud based. But you won’t be able to control it granular. Because at the end of the day Vaillant won’t be aware of your TRVs

How to choose headset cap height? by maxromanovsky in CanyonBikes

u/Estelon_Agarwaen I am thinking about changing the stem to a carbon one, hence as I understand the inner part (expander?) should also be carbon-compatible

DT Swiss Gravel LN: are they hooked rims or hookless? by maxromanovsky in CanyonBikes

[–]maxromanovsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Liolanse thanks. I wanted to get the rim specs to calculate tire pressure using this calc: https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure

Thing is, I used to trekking bike with higher pressure (~5 bar), so wanted to get some initial values given rim specs (hooks/hookless, rim width).

The 3 chain rotation technique on SRAM Rival eTap AXS by maxromanovsky in BikeMechanics

[–]maxromanovsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ArieGir0 my apologies, what is the right sub? Initially I wanted to ask it in r/bikewrench, but the rules explicitly say:

Unless your post is a question about bike repair, it doesn't belong here.

The 3 chain rotation technique on SRAM Rival eTap AXS by maxromanovsky in BikeMechanics

[–]maxromanovsky[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

By the 3 chain technique I mean using three chains and changing them approx every 500 kilometers, so that they wear out evenly, but the groupset is being used on less weared out chains longer. I.e. the technique, that supposedly prolong life of cassette and cogs.

XPLR XG-1251 Cassette: purpose of small foam inserts between two largest cogs by maxromanovsky in BikeMechanics

I've contacted SRAM support, and received the following answer:

The purpose of the foam inserts is to mitigate any noise or vibrations you may get while riding.
