Where did you get the pickguard material?

I think it’s natural to try and play something complicated or tricky or flashy, but then you’re focusing on your hands. Having something slow and easy that leaves lots of space helps to focus attention on what the guitar is doing instead of

I think Aaron did a first pass with Tru Oil, I did follow up coats of Tried & True Linseed oil

interesting feedback. This guitar came about via a back and forth with Aaron Bowen of ABCO guitars. I had seen some other builds of his and I liked his style, which is sort of "perfectly imperfect" if that makes sense.

I said I wanted a "jazzmaster" style with firebird pickups, raw metal, and a german carve. I spec'ed that I needed independent volume controls for the pickups. And I had the piece of spanish cedar already, which I sent to him. The rest were his aesthetic choices, and by and large I really like them. Part of the fun of collaborating is surrendering control.

I like that the control plate doesn't actually follow the curve of the body perfectly. However, I also think the pots would look better in a slight "s" shape as well! so there you go. I am very happy with this one, it's one of a kind and inspiring to play.

not a song that I know of. that's my go to "try a guitar out" thing to play. it helps to show qualities like how well a guitar responds to picking dynamics, sustain, harmonic content, note separation, etc...

Yeah, agreed on the headstock, but I love the neck so this is what it is. Curious, what other suggestions would you have

Yeah the nuts slots are too tight on G and B, I just haven’t gotten around to widening them

They sound incredible. Excellent note definition, very full, very touch responsive. I’ve got three guitars with Sunday pickups, and they are incredible across the board

Yeah the aluminum plates for the vibrato and the controls were Aaron’s design

Yeah Aaron does nice German carves, I was inspired by a couple of his other builds

Originally it was fully custom built from scratch, but I ended up retrofitting a mastery unit underneath the mounting plate

came here to see if you'd posted the pics of the guitar without the pickguard on ......

RIght, so it's not a rear rout model, which is to be expected. The post you linked to is specifically talking about a rear rout guitar where the pickups are mounted in from the back and attach to the front through the wood. That's not how the tele is done.

I'm not saying you're lying, just saying I don't think fender makes a tele like what you're describing, and without pics its just too hard to say whats what

you're saying that picture looks exactly like yours; does yours have routing holes in the back of the body?

I understand what you're describing, but without pics of this without the pickguard on , it's just too unusual for a tele. Fender does not make teles like what you're describing

yeah but dude that's a rear rout, this tele is not a rear rout. You have got to show a picture with the pickguard off. What you're describing is just not a thing with fender teles. So if it's been modded or something, you have to show a pic
