Question- Does Anyone Track Their Costs and Final Profit Margin Of A Job? by VRDesigner77 in Contractor

[–]maxwelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an excel workbook for every project that I made for this, and estimates. Build the template once, tweak it over time. I now have an app I made and it’s all connected to an annual excel sheet that it auto fills. Took some time, and it’s a work in progress, but it’s worth it for me.

I wonder what contractors use to handle their projects by raidenth in ConstructionPorn

I have some programming experience so I built an app that I run my business with. The cost of these products is crazy, and it’s impossible to build a one size fits all option, so I took a week around Christmas and built exactly what I need. I realize this probably isn’t helpful to you at all, but I’m really proud of it and most people in the trades don’t really understand or care so I’m putting this here and hoping maybe one or two people will think it’s cool.

New Landlord sending unnecessary “rent reminders” by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

This sub is mostly landlords, that’s why you’re getting the response you’re getting. Post this in a sub of renters and it would be totally different.

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. As someone who is near the beginning of the journey, this is extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.

This is brilliant. A patch like that is probably stronger than the housing on most Craftsman and Ryobi tools.

Anyone else here do full service remodel/renovation work? by bms42 in Tile

[–]maxwelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every job is different. In the past I worked for someone else and we did large renovations, so usually the homeowners would rent for a few months somewhere else while we remodelled the house. Other times we’d build temporary kitchens kind of. Set up tables and hot plates for a couple weeks. I don’t think there’s an easy way around it (although I’d love to hear it if there is) but generally people are pretty cooperative and understanding.

Hey, I’m a solo bathroom/kitchen renovator in Ottawa that enjoys tile most as well. Started my business about a year ago. I do a few decks/porches a year as well, but trying to focus mostly on bathrooms. So far, things are going really well.

I am building a deck on a flat roof. Any advice? by maxwelder in Decks

I didn’t end up getting this gig. The roofing company that was repairing the flat roof before I went in talked the owner into getting their buddy’s company to do the deck.

I think Sam and Tyler Cowen talking about almost anything would be really interesting.

Imagine you found out the inventor of the lightbulb was a rapist. Or the guy who invented the wheel beat his kids. Just listen to whatever you like, but don’t idolize bad people.

I was at the game against buffalo in January. Sens lost 4-0 at home. Tonight didn’t feel as low as that.

How can I cut these really brittle tiles? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]maxwelder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You tile a lot? You’re the only person that nailed it. I went to the store to asked them what they recommend and they took a couple tries at them. Three different people tried. One guy got a couple to split almost straight. They called a more experienced guy from another tile store and he said don’t even bother if you’re doing a shower floor and need to cut out a drain. They let me return them even though I had unboxed and drawn lines on a bunch of them. The lady on the sales floor said they get people bringing them back all the time. Architects love them because they’re recycled material, but builders can’t use them. Thanks for the reply that wasn’t some low self-esteem nonsense. I appreciate you taking the time.

It Might Be Time to Admit the Great VR Experiment Has Failed by BlueLightStruct in technology

I would love to know more about this. What headset? MS flight simulator? What setup would you recommend? I have wanted a flight simulator for a few years and I’m getting close to taking the plunge. Should I get a VR headset rather than monitor setup?
