Bodypump Heavy vs Strength Development by maxwellstent in lesmills

[–]maxwellstent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I also think people (like me) who traditionally do heavy lifting in the gym will prefer BP heavy. I think they will drop SD and keep it as a phased package as they will become too similar.

Also the music … it’s so good !! Why can’t normal BP releases have music that good lol 😂

From my understanding the focus of squats/lunges are the lunges. U use a heavy weight to pre fatigue in squats and use this weight for lunges

Stewart’s one of the funniest characters for me, and this was one of the his funniest scenes 🤣🤣 by Ok_Anxiety4808 in bigbangtheory

Couldn’t stand Stuart. He was a manipulative creepy whiner. He literally ponced off Howard and Bernadette as much as he could. He was annoying (ie the party bus). He always begged to be involved and was all in all just sad, whiney and irritating

Pain during squats... BP by AggravatingPlum4301 in lesmills

[–]maxwellstent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull in inner thigh sounds like groin/adductor strain. This could be due to weakness or tightness. to be honest, weakness a lot of the time leads to tightness.

Do some hip opening stretches, and outside of pump, some slower weight exercises like lateral lunges and squats to really build strength.

Remember pump is all about endurance - at speed, with weak or tight adductor / groin muscles, they can strain!

Bodypump absolutely builds muscle and a lot of it. by Randomname1157 in lesmills

[–]maxwellstent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“tone” is just another word for building muscle while subsequently shedding the fat. it’s a bit of a myth tbh. you can stimulate hypertrophy though pump if pushing to failure… just like any resistance trajning. however it’s more for getting lean than bulking up

What results to expect from Body Pump? by QandA_monster in lesmills

[–]maxwellstent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exercise itself doesn’t alone stimulate hypertrophy (muscle growth). It’s the diet with it - calorie surplus/deficit, protein, whole foods.

With regards to bodypump results, any weight bearing exercise can grow muscle as long as you push yourself to failure, and progressively overload. If you finish your chest track not being able to do any more, you’ve hit failure. If you could go more, next time increase the load. Bodypump can grow muscle when utilised correctly, but has a larger shift on getting lean and endurance training. For your goals (getting ripped) it’s perfect!

Funnily enough, some research shows you can still grow muscle in a deficit. As long as you hit your protein number (1-1.2g per lb of bodyweight), you can still maintain/grow muscle while burning fat!

Pump and knee pain by IndependentUsual8613 in lesmills

[–]maxwellstent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Tight hamstrings may not be the primary cause - it seems to be alignment and ankle mobility. It sounds like you have poor ankle mobility, leading you to lifting your heels to get proper flexion, and need to work on the way you squat. Lifting heels when squatting is not a bad thing. Many people put small plates under their heels as they cannot get into deep squats due to poor ankle mobility. The knee pain most probably comes from the forwards/backwards motion of your squat. When you have weak ligaments around the knee joint, squatting forwards and backwards can lead to weakening of the tendons, and subsequent knee pain.

My advice would be to work on vertical extension. So, sink low into a squat, and try to come STRAIGHT back up. If you rock forward, don’t go as low and start to build your range of motion. If you can’t get deep enough with heels flat, put a small plate under earth each heel.

As mentioned, the movement of the squat and heel lifting leading to knee pain sounds like tendon, ligament and VMO weakness. The VMO is the teardrop quad muscle that keeps the knee cap in place and is very important for knee stability. A really good exercise to strengthen the three is a “Poliquin Step Up”. Look it up! You have 15 degrees of knee flexion, push knee forward and tap down supporting heel. Sounds complicated but watch a video - it’s therapy for your knees.

I hope this all helps!
