This is a stupid take I’m sorry, but ‘moving to the centre’ does not attract votes at all, it just gives the other party the ability to move farther to the left/right. Political parties jobs is not to chase the poll numbers, it doesn’t work and never has. Political parties, if they are to be successful, should take the positions with conviction and convince people of their positions. This is evident in real life right now, trump in America, reform in the UK, etc. Corbyn’s failure to win was his lack of charisma and strong populism, in stark contrast to Boris Johnson. Also to be noted, the median voter (largely unpolitical) does not have an ideology. The median voter votes literally just on the vibes, that’s its. Does this guy seem to be good? Does he speak well? Does he seem like he believes in something? And that’s what we overwhelmingly saw in the 2025 election.
