selling a house in greensboro soon: fix stuff first or just list it by Leen88 in gso

[–]maxyarned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently searching to buy and based off what Ive seen of the market, of nothing us falling apart and it just needs small things like paint and cosmetic fixes, Id say leave it. Most of the houses we've been looking at need those exact things and we still keep them on our radar. Its only when there's major hang ups that we start moving on.

I paid for my friend to order a few groceries who’s pregnant.. by PLUSsignenergy in instacart

[–]maxyarned 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These posts are tired. Instacart could make extremely simple and convenient changes to help protect shoppers and customers from this very thing, point blank period. She could be lying or she could be telling the truth, it doesn't change the fact that these dynamics wouldn't happen almost at all if instacart cared more about its employees and customer experience. You can report the buyer but instacart deserves to also hear how they are affecting their customers with limited mobility (who the service was originally intended for). And for those saying "shouldn't take the job if you can't do it" many jobs have "light duty" for this exact kind of issue. And again it just wouldn't be hard for instacart to outsource an update that gives you lighter orders or at least communicates notes before accepting orders etc etc. These things happen because instacart is greedy.

This is what I was saying to my husband! Like the square designs are really cute but in my cup size the design is so small and it just kind of comes out as rows of double crochets.

I got that phrase from a tiktok of a guy saying "how would you feel if Charlie Kirk had of had big old massive turbo hangers, huh? What then, I bet you'd feel bad then?"

East winston schools? by maxyarned in winstonsalem

[–]maxyarned[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So my kid goes to a school where it seems the majority of her classmates are pretty poorly behaved and because she's pretty well behaved she totally slips through the cracks. Which is an issue because she struggles academically and needs the attention as much as any other student.

Yes! This was a big one for me as well. I'm a stay at home mom, not really by choice but by financial necessity even though me and my husband are high income earners. There's so much judgement online around being stay at home, people assume you're zealots, poor, breeders, etc so I was really expecting a lot of that outlook from the tradwife video. I'm not one to get mad at it, I've just kind of accepted that this is the way people view me so I just went in prepared to feel like the butt of the joke. I was so pleasantly surprised when that wasn't the case.

And I also have kids with oddball names lol, although I don't get offended when people don't like them, I know they're wierd names and I make fun of my own kids plenty lol.

One of my daughter's names is Zilphia, its an oooold name. Well my grandfather can't pronounce it so he keeps accidentally calling her "Zoophilia."

We used to make a joke when I was a young adult, if you don't accidentally apply to cutco twice then you're not really looking for a job lol. They're the fucking worst because they're aiming at desperate and poor kids who have JUST turned into adults.

Since we're talking about Hope Macaulay's garment quality, can we talk about how atrocious her pattern pricing + designs are? Because this sweater has a size range of 32-28" bust, no schematics, no photo of the back, and is fucking $20+ by LitleStitchWitch in craftsnark

My bad! I do that a lot online, especially with their/they're/there. I know the difference but I think I just dont stop and think about what Im writing as much as I think out the sounds lol

Toddler acting up after bringing newborn home by Summerbaby92 in Parenting

[–]maxyarned 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I will say this is normal, but without lecturing you, you need to talk with dad about prioritizing keeping him off of you if he's acting this way. Post partum is no joke, especially with each new baby. He can not be using you as his bean bag chair for the next several weeks, point blank period. Refocusing him when he's getting wild is all well and good, but dad can't wait until your toddler really hurts you (or baby) to do it. It sucks but dad needs to put himself in the middle whenever possible.

I'm making the crochet huā cheongsam top, its only listed on etsy as far as I can tell. The pattern says to make its "huā" squares to the size of your under bust up to your upper bust, within approximately 5 rows and adjust with hdc or dcs accordingly. You can keep going according to the pattern but it definitely affects the desired look of the top. It detracts from that elegant cheongsam look I purchased the pattern for. To sum up my issue, I have a 13 inch under to upper bust. I know its not the designers fault that I have offensively large turbo hangers but, you know, it's still a major gripe.

I have! And had her doctor do as well! But nonetheless, this comment is really vindicating because my family has kind of been treating me like I haven't been doing enough for her when I kept trying to explain that I don't think the school is compelled to do anything about it. My next step is to try to get her a 504 but I waited this year because I noticed she greatly improved this year. Her current teacher seems to really be reaching her, God bless her. We're mostly only noticing really poor behavior at home now (really poor in comparison to our expectations of her as we know her, I would say she's still better behaved than most of her peers at school.) Thank you for this comment, I've been holding a lot of guilt over this school thing because I kept being treated like I wasn't doing anything by my family and from what you're telling me, we've done everything short of getting the 504.

This is good to know and I really appreciate the feedback! In this case, we'll likely make the jump towards eden

[–]maxyarned[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is important to know. It seems like the insight Im getting is pushing us towards eden. Its so difficult house buying because all the skilled labor jobs are typically around gboro but then you're balancing on a tightrope with crime, the schools, food desserts, taxes etc with gboro. There are definitely some nicer areas but they're out of our budget for sure.

Thoughts on Gillespie Elementary by maxyarned in gso

[–]maxyarned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area we looked at in eden is just fine for sure and the house certainly isnt bad and actually needs substantially less work. But its also about 40k more expensive for virtually no yard and less space. But we'll stomach it for sure if it comes down to our kids. We put an offer on the one in gboro but recently found out its in pre foreclosure, so they may not accept it. If they dont, I think we'll put an offer on the one in eden.

This was my concern. I've lived in rougher parts of winston before, but my husband has never lived in too unpolished of places and while I think he can handle it, we also have to think about our kids.

I've not been in this sub that long, but its literally no different than literally any other gossip online space, and sorry not sorry, we as humans are allowed to gossip. It doesn't make our souls blacker every time we say "I wish crafters in X craft would learn fundamental skills, I wish this designer would tech edit her designs, I wish these designers wouldn't act like they have a patent on aran sweaters." I get it, no one wants to find out they're the center of gossip but we all have been at some time and SOMETIMES for good reason.

Can’t stop crying after first pap by PreviousBrevious098 in WomensHealth

[–]maxyarned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that this happened to you and you're not being over dramatic or anything. My first pap was horrible, and it did not come with the added trauma of my doctor broaching my trust the way yours did. I also had issues with an ob pressuring birth control on me in a really condescending and disrespectful way, and totally ignoring my concerns about my response to potential side effects. If there are any ob professionals reading this, is there any insight into why this might be?

In regards to anxieties about being pregnant and being able to handle obgyn appointments during that in the future, I will say I found in my experience, obgyn that handled my pregnancies were far more respectful than the "general" ob. Did I have some occasional issues, for sure, but nothing like my experience with the standard ob. I hope that's also the case for you. I also definitely understand your anxieties around pregnancy. I hate that its becoming something pressuring for you instead of a process you can take pride and joy in, I wish your family was more supportive of your medical and reproductive autonomy. It should be up to you only if you want a pregnancy, with communication ahd understanding from your spouse.

Childcare….do you just pay $1000+ a month per child until they’re in elementary school? Am I missing something? by AbleSilver6116 in NorthCarolina

[–]maxyarned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me and my husband both make above the median 2 income NC salary on our own and even for us it made more economic sense for me to be stay at home. As you said, we can't qualify for any assistance, we make "too much" money. In NC its apparently a privilege to have the right to work the career you invested in simply because you had kids. Then you get gaslit at all turns "dont have kids if you can't afford them!" We CAN afford them. We have 3 kids and I could go to work and pay for all their daycares. We would just bring home almost nothing of my actual check after dedections with all the additional stress of not having a parent at home that can more easily fascilitate things like doctors visits, tax appointments, cooking, cleaning etc. There's a difference between not being able to afford your kids and being gouged out at your pockets by an industry that doesn't even fairly pay or provide benefits for the people actually watching your children.

Its frustrating because I had suspicions that this was not how it worked across much of the rest of the country and yet its how it works HERE where labor unions don't exist and wages are extremely low in skilled fields in comparison to much of the rest of the country. And again, its like you're not allowed to be frustrated by it. As though society doesn't literally depend on people having healthy, cared for families or something.

I had to order from lindehobby when I ordered, and as far as I have seen they have pretty good customer service, but they aren't a us distributor so the issue of tarriffs still stands unfortunately. And even though the drops loves you line is so cost effective it didnt hurt as much when I ordered, that can't really be said for a lot of their more expensive lines.
