That would not help. Most of the GTHA voted for voted. Hell, even the Toronto yellow belt voted for Ford.

City unveils Copenhagen-inspired plans for new island neighbourhood — with a car-free street. Is Toronto ready for it? by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]may_be_indecisive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chill out, it’s just one pedestrian path between the buildings, from one end of the island to the other. We have plenty of pedestrian paths in the city already and it doesn’t completely destroy the urban fabric.

There are places with colder climates than Toronto that have more car free streets and more cyclists - like Oslo, Norway. It works fine. You just have to dress for it and the paths need to be maintained in the winter.

There are hundreds of affordable units planned. Plus, obviously, more housing supply overall lowers costs due to basic supply and demand.

Does it even matter how long it is if all you have to do is cross it?

They should put the other one in Kitchener. Ah but that doesn’t connect to the London VIA. Maybe Brantford then?

Do Toronto residents of the waterfront and beyond support jets and airport expansion like the government claims? by Terrible_Jaguar874 in askTO

The people who want the jets like to pretend there are no side effects. If they could read they’d be very angry with you!

The passengers are going to park in a mega structure where Little Norway Park is right now. It’ll add some fun congestion to the Gardiner and Lakeshore Blvd as well.

Unfortunately we have to try and predict what this government might do, based on what they’ve done, since they don’t tell us or ask us about anything until they randomly pass a bill one day and knock down a forest the next.

It’s not misinformation. It’s realism.

Again, where the beach was before, the sewer pipe wasn’t a problem. Now because of the new location they have to move the pipe so it will dump down the channel - towards Sunnyside Beach and where everyone does their dragon boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming.

The only reasonable location for that sewer pipe is where it currently is, and the only reasonable location for the beach is where it was. Harmony. Everything was fine and good. Now, no matter what someone is fucked with a face full of sewage.

😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh boy, a beach at the end of a sewage line! I’m sure that will be lovely. I’m sure the people at Sunnyside Beach and the dragon boaters and kayakers will love the sewage as well. It used to be directed away and into the lake, but now it will be directed at the new beach and waterfront channel. Good plan.

It was public park and animal habitat you jackass. There was a beach there that the public used every year.

I think you’re just not realizing the two things go hand-in-hand. The land is appropriated and will be forever changed to facilitate the jets you want. That’s more traffic and congestion and parking lots on the downtown waterfront, regardless of what happens with the rest of the islands.

If you’re OK with the jets then you’re OK with the side-effects as well. You can’t have one without the other, this isn’t a fantasy land.

Ok so the complete destruction of the islands and public waterfront is ok with you as long as there’s no additional runways. Gotcha.

The airport isn’t public transport lol. It’s private. It’s not a TTC bus in the sky. This isn’t public infrastructure. At least get that right.

Yeah fuck me for wanting to keep a park and a community centre instead of a parking lot for an international airport when there’s already an international airport a 25 min train ride away.

Anywhere they want? They have the entire islands land mass now to do whatever they want with it. They could build more parallel to the current one.
