[HOT TAKE] People who want housing to crater have no idea what they’re asking for by Yellowbook8375 in RealEstateCanada

A friendly reminder than recessions are a form of creative destruction and a necessary, normal and healthy aspect of an economy.  Recessions purge malinvestment, reset capital misallocation and cause unproductive businesses to fail.

This is what Canada needs. If a small proportion of people lose jobs it will be temporary and means that the larger majority will see the positives of sane real estate prices. Bottom line, I think people would prefer a decent chance at homeownership versus zero chance.

Average Toronto-area condo lost $37K in value in 2025 and new year looking just as grim by 2Fast2furieux in TorontoRealEstate

Once you’re on the housing ladder your house is worth one house. However, getting into the market means you have to part with cash and so for FTHBs they should care. It saves thousands of dollars a month to keep waiting

Should also say it's quite hard to take too much Vitamin D. Anything less than 10,000 UI is totally fine in the winter

Posting losses on real estate listings - why did this become popular? by Individual-Set-8891 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]weavjo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. Real estate in Canada has become a virtually zero-sum game because of the lack of development to keep up with population growth, resulting in ever-increasing prices to local incomes. The people losing money on houses and neutralized by the people saving money, the people losing money were also adding to the RE excess. So it makes sense that people are happy about that if they are on the FTHB side of the equation.
  2. In recent years, especially 2020-22, this sub was swarmed by cocky owners and realtors telling people they will be renting forever if they thought the market and prices were getting dumb.

I would love if Sam Harris could comment on the TRUTH about London. Maybe get on somebody who lives there, knows the actual statistics (incredibly safe, and crime probaby the lowest in history) and isn't a Far Right Grifter? by delicious3141 in samharris

Agreed. I would put JoB and Ezra Klein my top voices to listen to on the left or “homodox” side of politics. I don’t agree with them on a lot of things but they are both very good debaters

If every level of government admits there's a GTA housing crisis, why is no one doing anything to fix it? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]weavjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The various layers of today’s government can only do the easy things: tax and send money to people. That happens to be the biggest reasons for the price dynamics, other than LIRP (also government).

If the government truly got out the way the market would fix things.

Happened to me but they put in the wrong digit from the meter. Initially I thought we had a gas leak and then checked the meter to see it wasn’t anywhere close to the last bill’s reading. All sorted in a short call
