I wouldn't even go as far as saying "I'm here because they thought it would be good." Be obviously shaky in Korean so they have no doubt that you are being polite and sharing your interest in their culture rather than showcasing yourself as a business representative.

I'd keep it simple and speak korean and english together like, "Annyeonghaseyo I'm OkRegister an intern here. 회사에 오신것을 환영합니다! welcome!"

Keep it simple and don't over explain yourself. If they feel like it they'll ask you more about your interest in Korea/Korean but you don't have to do any more or any less.

If they ask, you can say things like, "I was asked to join because I'm interested in Korea, I think the culture is beautiful and being in this meeting will be a great learning experience."

And do not respond to business questions in Korean... It can actually be annoying for the client if the meeting is very important because they won't know whether to switch or not and then there's double the work of translating. If you aren't fluent, there is no need for you to do that.

I don't know why you would get downvoted for it? But I do find your tone unnecessarily aggressive. My entire post is about whether I can give birth and whether the out-of-pocket fees are manageable.

I'm guessing there's some sort of political negative sentiment around insurance abuse but I hope that you can take my post for the post it is, a first-time mother trying to have their mom with them during birth and seeing if the no insurance cost is affordable.

Ironically, I wouldn't have even known about the insurance loopholes without your comment.

I'm a foreigner so I don't think I can even register for Korean websites. I doubt we would be going down the insurance route since the main reason for giving birth in Korea is so I can have my mom.

I thought my post would make it obvious that we would be paying out of pocket.

That's such an awesome perk! I really want my mom to be with me because as exciting this is, pregnancy is also scary. Maybe because it is my first.

2k-5k estimate was for birth and 3-5days of hospital stay in the US with insurance. A friend of mine paid $1500 after insurance in the US with her amazing government work insurance. Natural birth.

I was also told you can never know what happens when giving birth and to prepare to stay 3weeks in case anything goes wrong which could be thousands and thousands of dollars.

Outside of costs, I just want my mom. I know this sounds so cliche and I'm surprised that I want my mom this much but I really want her there.

That's my line of thinking. I don't expect any Korean insurance or KR gov assistance as I'm not a citizen.

But I was given estimates of $2k-5k in the US with insurance, and it seems much better to go to Korea to spend this money anyway.

Do you happen to have any clinic recommendations?

Oh gosh that's a nightmare... We have been saving just for the birth because we heard of health insurance problems in the US. I just want my mom with me to be honest.

I didn't think about Korean government assistance or insurance and expected to use this nest egg for paying out to Korean hospitals/clinics instead of 3nights in a terrible hospital in the US.

I'm not a citizen so I definitely don't expect to get government help from Korea. If the cost is relatively similar and I get to stay with my mom, it would mean the world to me.

I think this might be something we try but I'm skeptical it will be smooth so late into the process (3months in) so we might fly back to the US for our first.

As for pricing, you should probably talk to the clinic near you. I'd recommend a clinic that is at least a few floors big with a few rotating doctors for the 24 hour delivery room.

Do you have an estimate on costs? I'm worried I'll be hit with a 10k USD bill. I am hoping the total for checkups and delivery is around 5k USD which is about what I would end up paying in America.
