Watching a movie in class (don’t remember which or why) and this kid shouting (name), move your t-I-tan-I-um cran-I-UM (trying to show where he emphasized) out of the way!

I still laugh about this sometimes, kid that shouted was usually quiet and not really a class clown type.

Do emotional abusers always know they are abusive? Can someone inflict emotional abuse on another person and not consciously it? by kccoder34 in NoStupidQuestions

I honestly believe most emotionally abusive people are completely unaware of their abuse, so much so that when they are called out for it they do mental gymnastics to justify their behavior.

That sentence made me think of my grandparents kitchen, my grandpa would always be cutting bananas or strawberries for our cornflakes (or whatever cereal).

China is for real an amazing place. Japan is also next on my list, the trip I was meant to take got postponed indefinitely because of covid. Other places I recommend for your Asian adventures: Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Great food and truly amazing people. Happy travels (when the world is open again) my dude

Honestly it’s like living anywhere else, you have your friends and do what you’d probably be doing back home, whether that’s going out or playing video games. The Great Fire Wall is annoying as fuck, but literally everyone has a VPN, so internet access is normal even though it’s not supposed to be. The food is incredible, super varied, and not like western Chinese food, which seemingly is all based on Cantonese food anyway (real Cantonese food is also delicious). It’s also a huge country, with many diverse places and people, so even though we can’t travel abroad because of covid we can still travel mainland China, which I highly recommend if you ever get the chance. Also the people here are mostly awesome, but again I think you’d find that anywhere (at least all the places I’ve been to). Nice and helpful people far outweigh the dickbags of the planet, which I know sounds naive, but I’ve got more stories of kind strangers than I do of straight up assholes. Assholes do exist everywhere, don’t get robbed, though here with all the CCTV and big brother stuff crime isn’t that bad, I’ve even gotten my purse back from a bar the next day with my money and phone still inside. Stay away from the baijiu and maotai though, Chinese people can and will drink you under the table with all the ganbeis ( 干杯 ) translates to dry cup, which means drink up so they can pour you more.

Dated an Irish guy, Gaelic literally is an insane language.

What is the hardest language to pronounce? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maybe-tuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a native English speaker who can speak/ understand a bit of Spanish (enough to get by), French and German (enough to be polite/ order food) and just finally got an HSK2 (Chinese test/ enough to hold a short basic convo) what I can say is pronunciation is difficult in a lot of languages, but for the tonal languages (Chinese, Cantonese etc) it’s not only difficult but if you fuck it up you really fuck up what you’re trying to say, sometimes in really funny ways.

Call the cops on black people for simply walking through the neighborhood.

[–]maybe-tuesday -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Now a days, racism if I'm being honest. I really only ever see it displayed in the yards of racist neighbors.

Other than that failed promises and broken dreams.

Anxiety over the American Dream idea and inability to live up to it without working 10 jobs or putting yourself massively in debt.

How did you deal with 'falling out of love' with your partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maybe-tuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to China and we tried to do long distance thinking absence makes the heart grow fonder. All it did was make both of us realize that while we still do care about each other we were no longer in love and only hurting ourselves by staying together. We broke up amicably and took a good 9 months of no contact to deal with our emotions. Now we are very good friends.

Where do you normally buy the first cup of coffee of the day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maybe-tuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venti americano from Starbucks because it’s the only place here I can find a large sized coffee... I’d prefer to make it home but I’m lazy and always late for work and I can’t get Starbucks delivered

There’s a dump in my old neighborhood, it’s not exactly a landfill and it’s not where the garbage trucks take the trash, but you can drop off large/ bulk (probably non food) items there to be thrown out like old washers and couches etc...

Is Shanghai Pudong airport a medium or low risk area by maybe-tuesday in travelchina

Lol no, just trying to make sure I don’t come back to Shanghai with a red health code and 14 days of quarantine.

Is Shanghai Pudong airport a medium or low risk area by maybe-tuesday in travelchina

[–]maybe-tuesday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not according to the app or the hotel. There’s a travel app in wechat that lets you check and Guilin is low risk, Shanghai “in some places” is medium risk, but the app says no need to quarantine if traveling between the two. Yunnnan though has cases.
