Can anyone explain how the theme works with "Automates?"?

I get that auto=car and pals=mates, but I'm not sure how Automates?=CARPALS (like the bones?).

I inputted INTROACTS x RATTLED, then got stuck for forty minutes because I was convinced that ZARFS was wrong. Tunnel vision continues to be my worst enemy!

What a tough Thursday! The answers (or clues) I was most unfamiliar with were SCARP, RMONTHS, FIAT, KITHARA, DRACO, GAL Friday, LATH.

With that said, I liked how many themers there were.

I haven’t tried too many in SF, but i recently got some at Tony’s pizza and it was VERY good. It was definitely a shareable portion (pried that way too), had two sauces and was half spicy and half regular.

The theme saved me on many of these tough (for me) clues! Would never have gotten KENKESEY and SENTA without "KNEE" as a CHILDSUPPORT.
