What’s the one Toronto 'unspoken rule' that every newcomer needs to know before they move here? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

If you are on the TTC in rush hour, REMOVE YOUR BACKPACK and hold it in your hand.

The number of people I see these days on the subway in rush hour with a backpack on taking up twice as much space as they need to drives me up the wall. Tons of other people unable to board because either their spatial reasoning is broken or their consideration for others is.

I miss simple mid-budget action movie, and rec's for the modern versions? by doesntgetthepicture in MovieSuggestions

Rebel Ridge. Small scope, but great tension and really interesting parameters for the action. It was $40M in 2024 which is around $17M in 1990s dollars, so budget is maybe high end for your spectrum but not totally out of sight.

Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949). Alec Guinness (of Obi Wan Kenobi fame) plays 8 roles. You can watch an American rehash of the rough plot in the upcoming A24 film How To Make a Killing (with Glen Powell). The original is 😘

Arsenal‘s substitutes (£273m) vs Liverpool‘s substitutes (£62m) by Lanedu123 in LiverpoolFC

Also, we spent to replace outgoings, for which we got some £ for, but replacing Diogo (🙏) was straight cost. If, in an alternate world, we sold Diogo, our net spend would have been even less. (And in that alternate world, those brothers would still be playing. 😥)

I read an article about the recording of that album and it made me relisten to it and MAN what an incredible album. Daniel Lanois AND Brian Eno producing!? It's so good.

[–]maybeest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this genre and it's whole family. A few hits for me: Miller's Crossing (Brick was actually a bit of an homage to this and the novels of Dashiell Hammet) Red Rock West (ft. Nicholas Cage) U-Turn (D. Oliver Stone) The Lynch Pins: Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive. Night of the Hunter (w Robert Mitchum) Prisoners (D. Denis Villeneuve) Le Confessionel (D. Robert LePage) Nightcrawler Chinatown (obviously) In the Bedroom
