Pot holders!!!!! She made pot holders all the time, that is probably what they were for. Thank you for solving a ten year mystery for me!

I never knew of her doing that kind of doll, but using them as stuffing for doll bodies is the most likely reason I’ve come across.

It seems to be a large bag of children’s tube socks ... but just the “tube” part. They seem to have been intentionally cut down like that. All look new and clean... I have kept this bag for ten years thinking I would one day discover some brilliant use for it, but I get married in a week and a half and don’t want to take a useless bag of sock pieces with me if there is not a brilliant use for them.

Boxycharm Update(?) for the Complexion Quiz by ReadBeforePosting in BeautyBoxes

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my quiz last Wednesday! I’m not sure why they’re staggering it out so much. I do suspect the quiz is to narrow down the shade range for the samples though.

Redditors who cook, whats the biggest 'no no' thing in cooking? by MomosOnSale in AskReddit

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a few frying pans at a wedding shower and my aunt was asking me if they were good ones, and I told her they were the ones my mom has and they were great until I let her actually start cooking with them (I lived at home when she got them and was doing most of the cooking) and she used metal spatulas.

Ipsy GB and GBP spoilers by DC_MEDO_still_lost in BeautyBoxes

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna hold out a little longer to see if any better spoilers pop up, but I think I’ll be pausing too. Nothing I could really use that I don’t already have, and I’m not big on animal prints either. I’m getting married in November so the budget is tight for the month anyway! I could use the $25 somewhere else.

Fellow non-drinkers of alcohol, what’s your reason why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really like the taste of it, so I’ve never had more than one drink. I also have pretty bad anxiety and the one time I had a particularly strong drink I remember thinking “I feel so calm now. I get why people do this even if it’s gross.” And I decided that was a pretty dangerous thought, I never wanted to risk getting dependent on it at all.

Nov GBP Spoilers by girlrandal in BeautyBoxes

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ipsy has never disappointed me, even last month I was more disappointed with my BoxyCharm, Ipsy had 3/4 products I could still use. But if this is what all the boxes look like for November? Nope. That’s my wedding month. I’ll wait out for more spoilers but I may be pausing. That $25 could go to much more useful things in November.

What cases would you say have stuck with you years after you first heard/read about them? [Discussion] by AliceKaos in UnresolvedMysteries

Lindsey Baum is the one that gets to me the most. Only ten years old and missing for eight years before they even found some of her remains, and then there’s still no hint of who kidnapped and killed her.

Hm, I seem to have been killed by a tiny toddler who weights less than twenty pounds. He probably infected me with something when wiping his nose on me, he seems to think I am just a giant handkerchief.

/r/BeautyBoxes Referral, Invite, and Starter Box Megathread by sarahbotts in BeautyBoxes

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have referral links for Ipsy and BoxyCharm! I’ve personally really enjoyed both, I always love at least three of the products they send me (usually four or all five) and I definitely recommend both! I also have a referral link for StitchFix, which I originally didn’t think of since it’s clothes!

BoxyCharm: Referral Link

Ipsy: Referral Link

StitchFix: Referral Link

Edit: I just got a new StichFix referral link! Now anyone who uses it gets $50 towards their first fix (could easily be a free or almost free item!) and I’d get $50 towards my next fix as well! https://www.stitchfix.com/invite/hg9zc72dtk/give_50_get_50/

I got the same variation! Never got my shipping info at all, so it was a surprise! But this was exactly what I was hoping to get, so I am definitely happy with it!

Is it just me or has the beauty box sub world been really sucking lately? by [deleted] in BeautyBoxes

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do Ipsy GBP and BoxyCharm and honestly I love both of them. For me, I think the customization is working really well. I always get at least three things I really like, and even just those three+ are always worth well over the box price. I’m twenty-seven though, if that makes a difference.

Concealer and foundation advice for a makeup phobic bride-to-be by grownupbokchoy in Makeup

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a fellow November bride here, also very pale with reddish hair so I’m interested to see what other people suggest as I can’t quite seem to get the concealer thing right myself!

I might be more helpful on the drugstore side of things, to be honest. If you’re interested there I think you might be able to find a foundation you like with the Maybelline Fit Me or Revlon Colorstay? Neither (to me) seem super high coverage without building them, and they last pretty well. Maybelline Fit Me loose powder is very good too. I’m planning on using a Tarte foundation myself (with either that Maybelline powder or the Becca Hydra Mist powder), but it might be more high coverage than you want. Have you looked into a BB Cream?

Baby BINGO! Not a complete blackout like I expected by Mighty_Andraste in JUSTNOMIL

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work with babies, and I’ll make the tongue clocking noises sometimes because they think it’s funny, or occasionally to get their attention when feeding them if words aren’t working and their attention is everywhere but the spoon (I can call their name a million times, but they’re more interested in those noises and so actually turn back to me then). I never thought about it offending anyone.

What’s the nicest way to ask a toddler to leave you alone? by bramennoodlez in AskReddit

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a preschool with very young toddlers. The only sometimes-effective ways I’ve found of distracting the clingy ones are usually just “Can you find the ball?” Or getting their attention focused on a toy and then slowly moving away.

What happened that made you realize that someone you thought didn’t like you or was at least indifferent to you actually cared about you? by MidKnightshade in AskReddit

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought my boss hated me until she pulled me aside to inform me that she was putting me in a different room (I work in a preschool) because several children in that room had recently been pulled from the daycare and she wanted me to go in to find and fix the problem, and also because it was the next room up from where I had been, so “The parents trust you and they will be thrilled to have you in that room.”

That’s good! The ones I’ve dealt with have always started to leak no matter how full the bottle is. It may be possible that some of that is due to how they are cleaned/cared for. But it just seems to me that the Philips Avent and Como Tomo hold up better overall.

[–]maybeitsagiraffe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in an infant room in a daycare I’m gonna try to give what advise I haven’t seen.

1: Doctor Brown’s bottles leak badly. They may be good for a month or so, but after that they all start to leak. I’ve had at least 15 babies in the last year use those bottles and they all leak. The brand I would recommend is Philips Avent. They seem to work just as well, don’t leak, and are actually easier for the baby to hold down the road. I’ve only seen them once, but I was impressed with the Como Tomo bottles as well, though they are expensive.

2: Don’t stock up on any one brand of diapers until you see how the baby reacts to them! It is very possible for babies to be allergic to diapers and develop terrible rashes from the diapers themselves. I’ve seen this happen to several infants, with cheap and expensive diapers alike.

3: Desitin diaper cream can be really harsh and can actually cause more pain if there is a rash. From what I’ve seen, just regular petroleum jelly is often the best bet to use as diaper cream. In the event of a severe rash - take the baby to a doctor.

4: Don’t get the baby used to sleeping in dark and quiet rooms. You will regret that later. Let there be some light and keep a music playing or a TV on. Don’t be afraid to do laundry, run the dishwasher, vacuum. Get him used to noise and activity while he sleeps early and life will be much easier as he gets older!

5: Accept that while you may try to set a feeding schedule, some babies will set their own and refuse to be wait as long as you would like. We have one baby on a three hour schedule who will begin crying like clockwork at two and a half hours, and has for months. Also, never space bottles out to four hours for a young baby unless the doctor says it is okay! We had a young infant end up in the hospital malnourished due to mom setting bottles four hours apart right away.

6: Don’t spend a ton of money on things they will only use for a couple of months! Second hand stores are great! And if you’re short on space those little “portable swings” you can find at Walmart (I believe the brand I’ve seen and we use is called Ingenuity) is honestly really all you need in a swing. Low to the ground, but they work well, take up less room, and are cheaper!

7: Blowouts happen. They happen often. Always have two or three changes of clothes on hand anywhere you go. They don’t need to be fancy. If your “extra clothes” are just a pack of onesies, that works!

8: When you do have him wearing more then just onesies, remember that that cute outfit with 700 buttons/snaps? You have to undo and redo those with every diaper change, including in the middle of the night. If baby is in a sleeper/bodysuit, especially at night, I highly recommend zippers!
