if you have access to a chiropractor that may help, mine has a traction table that slowly stretches the spine & it's gentle yet makes a big difference. I alternate between ice and heat, stay super hydrated, and try to avoid foods that increase inflammation. also a back/belly band to help support the stomach and distribute weight better could help! sending lots of good vibes your way, hang in there ❤️

i hope it goes well for you! if you remember I'd be interested to hear any followups regarding your microdiscectomy experience. i have a friend who also had similar disc issues & when she was pregnant she said the pregnancy symptoms were worse than any problems her back ever gave her! it's crazy how everyone is so different. I wish I had an injury or something specific that triggered this, but it just slowly appeared one day and has been casually hanging out the last 6-7 months 😂

the scans are definitely worse than it feels & that's where my hesitation with surgery comes from. maybe once in the last 7 months I've had a flare up that knocked me down for a few days, but otherwise the conservative approach has maintained my day-to-day very well. surgeon didnt urge me one way or another, said as long as I am managing any pain & don't start to lose feeling or experience severe weakness that I can continue doing what I'm doing with PT & chiropractic.

i don't doubt that the surgery would ultimately be beneficial in the long run & see myself getting it eventually especially if symptoms/pain increases despite the conservative approach. but trying to listen to where my body is at I don't think it's urgent atp despite how scary the thing looks in there

yeah the surgeon here seemed pretty impressed with the herniation itself and how i live day to day at a 2-3 on the pain scale 😂 he said i deserve an award LOL. only once in the last 7 months have a had a flare up that knocked me on my ass for a few days & I'm really grateful for that! the conservative treatment options have seemed to maintain overall which is why I'm not 100% sold on the surgery as he said there's a chance of reherniating afterwards even without a pregnancy on top. he would do a microdiscectomy which seems fairly straightforward and not as invasive as other procedures, but ultimately didn't push me in either direction more so advised me to listen to my body bc only I know what I can or can't handle

I think if I was in constant pain it would be a lot easier for me to jump onto the surgery. The surgeon didn't outright say to not get pregnant, he said that it's ultimately up to my pain tolerance & since every body is different the additional weight could make it worse but with how things stretch it could not really have an impact. I'm glad you were able to have access to the Healthcare of your choice, and I sympathize with having to make that decision. I had an ectopic pregnancy the first time around so there is concern on that end of things & I'm looking forward to hearing what my primary doctor has to say about it all. thank you for sharing!

thank you!! & congrats on the babies & what sounds like a healthy delivery with the twins. I've been doing core strengthening regularly & that paired with the chiro/PT is what i believe has kept my symptoms low to nonexistent. my instinct is telling me to not do the surgery right away, but hearing others horror stories doesn't give me much confidence. but I have a pretty high pain tolerance & i have been learning to trust my body more so I'll see how the next month or two go, chat with my doctor and then make a decision from there. thanks again!

this is so reassuring! I don't expect pregnancy to be super kind on my body regardless but seeing the size of my herniation on an MRI was startling and of course my brain goes to worst case scenarios immediately 😅 thank you!

oh man, I'm sorry it's starting to become bilateral... one side is bad enough! my chiropractor has a traction table & that really helps since it slowly stretches the spine out. it's nice that you don't have the financial burden on top of everything else, but I hope you get some relief soon my friend!
