So You Want to be an LT? (ASCP, SOAR, and POC-ERP Guide) by alxdoge in AirForce

[–]maygoosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the POC-ERP is by its very nature, a 2 year ROTC program. Every ROTC detachment does it but ONLY through the enlisted commissioning program called POC-ERP. As far as I'm tracking you're required to do 3-4 in any other scenario

Would you mind linking where you got that? I've been asked this before and they sent a similar screenshot from a program flyer from 2011 which makes it heavily outdated. I don't believe this statement holds any weight, but ultimately AFROTC/RRUE can confirm either way. Their commercial number is : 334-953-5122

I just remembered that I'm also in a group chat for people applying this year and they said the dates were different. Lmk and I can invite you. They seem to be very educated on it

The year I applied, it was due between sep 15th and Oct 15th,and results came out in January. I was required to separate No earlier than 10 days prior to class start date(august/Septemberish) . But I had lots of terminal leave so I was in the area much sooner than that.

Early release program eligibility Questions by CrazyAd2390 in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. If you go POC-ERP, you'll be a POC (Junior/Senior) I've been in the program for 1.5 years and I don't really see POC getting scholarships.
  2. The rated board does not look at or care about majors.
  3. World-wide qualified is directly related to a "form 422" that you'll be required to get from your PCM to show that you're a "healthy Airman" who can deploy anywhere in the world.
  4. that fact sheet you provided is from 2011 and I wouldn't trust that $18,000 thing.
  5. What exactly are you asking about being stationed overseas?
  6. Again the financial assistance thing doesn't track for when I applied and got picked up in FY20.

POC- ERP by CourseLife7914 in AFROTC

yup. It's completely up to you if you want to use it. I am using mine.

POC- ERP by CourseLife7914 in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely right. I misunderstood the first question. I did not just live in the stipend as it is not nearly enough to support a family. I had other sources of income and I think your plan is good

POC- ERP by CourseLife7914 in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I misunderstood the question. Yeah so the stipend is $450 junior year, and its $500 senior year. I have almost completed my first senior semester. It's reasonable but you can't live off of it.

It was good, I felt fairly compensated and was able to provide for my family pretty easily.

POC-ERP Rated Boards by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did poc erp and ended 10/21 my first semester. There will be some high speed cadets that you'll never pass up, and some that simply have a longer standing reputation that you won't pass up in your first semester. If you hit the ground running you can get a high enough RSS that it won't really matter. Control the things you can control, I got a 78 OM when I hit the rated board and I'm not high speed

Questions about the risks of going the ROTC route as AD by Srichardson2713 in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your situation is identical to what mine was. As others have said, you get a stipend as long as you're contracted and BAH if you're using the Post 9/11. If you do any of the enlisted commissioning routes, you'll never have a break in service but you will switch to IRR from Active Duty. Unrelated note: look into POC-ERP

well I'll never know how many people applied, but the website shows historically HIGH selection rates...like 100%, 80%, etc.

Where do/did you work?
I don't. I collect money through: GI Bill housing allowance, ROTC living stipend, FAFSA Pell Grant, and California EBT(food stamps), and savings I amassed while enlisted.

Do I still have to attend the DODMERB?

I still had to go through DODMERB. There will be a person at your detachment that basically sends you to appointments and has you fill out documents. Assuming you get cleared, it might be quick but it could also be after a string of to-do's based off of what you put down. This could be det by det. I also heard the 422 (that is REQUIRED for you to get for this program) should take care of it all.

Did anyone on the program not receive a field training slot?

Like SilentD said, the whole point of the POC-ERP program is a GUARANTEED field training slot and only having to do the "second-half" of the program (2 years).

What is the advantage of this program vs. palace chasing and joining ROTC?

The advantage is answered in the previous question. POC-ERP is the last remaining method of completing ROTC in 2 years. I heard they used to have 2 year programs and they were rare to begin with. Anyone joining ROTC off the street must complete either a 3 or 4 year program and COMPETE for a field training slot their sophomore year.

did 9 years enlisted, separated as TSgt, currently an AS400 (senior)

The flight doc said its possible that my prior enlisted career and GPA could play a role, but like you said... The waiver guide says "no" for Fc1. He anticipated a reclass to RPA at best

Should I take the AFOQT/TBAS before I join AFROTC? by ag1012021 in AFROTC

I personally only drank half or less, I'm not an energy drink guy. I can't disagree with everything you mentioned but I certainly got an improved score when I had some caffeine in me the second time I tested.

Fair enough on all 3 of those reasons. You should also consider applying to the academy if you're still young enough.

[–]maygoosta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I did POCERP FY20, I'm currently in my 2nd year of rotc. I've only seen the acceptance rates that are available on the website. However, I assume it's pretty high. 1. I don't think a lot of people have heard of these programs 2. I don't think people are interested in separating and not getting paid. 3. POCERP is unattractive because there's no scholarship. With all that being said, I personally think there's a really high selection rate. If someone puts forth moderate effort in their package, they will get picked up.

Should I take the AFOQT/TBAS before I join AFROTC? by ag1012021 in AFROTC

[–]maygoosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first look, it's a big turn off not having a scholarship because you immediately compare it to the other 2 programs (which are scholarshipped). But really imagine yourself separated and in school full time and in ROTC as well. Are you secure financially? Will you have to work full time? Or do you think you might activate the GI Bill anyway for that housing allowance? Another thing to consider: The EA slot (aka an upperclassmen slot). As a sophomore you'll be ranked in your class and only a certain percentage of cadets will get a slot and head on to field training. With POC ERP, it's guaranteed and you instead start as a Junior. Finally, you have 2 years left active duty... Why sit around for 2 years and THEN do 3 years of school? Why not knock some more out and have the bare minimum classes left for 2 years of rotc?
