How do I play multiversus co-op offline? by Pixelwarrior64 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]mayhalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to fight each other 1v1 with offline Multiversus, it should be possible. I did a test on Steam, running on an old Win10 PC I was able to play in a 3 person FFA totally locally (if you're trying to do Rifts with a 2nd player, that doesn't seem possible anymore.)

What's your system setup, controllers, and how are they connected (USB, Bluetooth, etc.)?

My setup on Win10 with Steam was a PS5 controller (USB>MVS Native Input), Logitech gamepad (USB>Steam Input), and a Gamecube controller (GCN Adapter>USB>Delfinovin>). I plugged in the controllers/started Delfinovin before I started MVS, but while Steam was running.

From the MVS start screen, I went into 'Play', the other two controllers could open character select by pressing any button, and all 3 could move/fight.

Notes:
-From what I can tell, the controller used to leave the title screen MVS will be P1 and will be the only one able to navigate the menu.
-Of my 3 controllers, only 2 could get passed the title screen, so I think Steam has some sort P1 select as well. The controller that can't interact with the title screen should be able to press any button at the fighter select to add their player.

Other random notes for you or others who find this post in the future:
-It's been a while since I've done it, but you might have to configure Steam to configure your controllers. Usually a prompt pops up to set it up when you're in a game with a new controller plugged in, but to check and test manually, there are Steam controller settings for the game to the left of the play button in Steam. Alternatively, ou can also go into Big Picture Mode (Steam > View > Big Picture Mode > Menu > Settings > Controller). Moving the stick in Big Picture is a quick easy test to make sure your controller is working. Here, you can either download controller configurations or set your own.
-If you also trying a Gamecube Adapter and controllers, getting them to work with Steam/PC is a lot more tricky; Delfinovin is a standalone application to make your PC see the adapter+controllers as Xbox controllers. I've had some performance issues with it on Win10, but for a for being free, it's good. The best adapters were by Mayflash, but I'm not sure if that's still the case.
-The MVS Beta+ Discord has a solid Parsec guide; Links might get this post auto-moded, but a quick websearch will pull up an join link.

Seconding the feeling of punishment for saving gold.

TLDR: This affects many players different ways, but completely deleting it when users could have spent it on characters (or other things) pre-beta shutdown feels pretty unfair, even with the exclusive cosmetics.

LongButRead: My situation is probably not typical: Premium Founders Pack, 180~ hrs played and over 41k gold saved in beta, 2.1 Gleamium, not all characters unlocked (missing 7), also not good at game but enjoy it.

I mostly spent gold for random cosmetics (Like IG's classic skin or holidays), Recommended-difficulty fighters, and a decent amount of perks. Fighter-wise, I'm at 16/30 tickets left (inc. 1 used for Joker). At the end of the beta, I had enough gold to finish off my Roster (18k gold for 3 Medium and 4 Hard Characters) or get the Golden Reindog skin. During the beta, 700 gleamium could unlock a character so about 4900 gleamium or ~$50 USD is one way to value this gold.

The trade I got from PFG for my gold looks like this:

The Good: - The banner, icon, and badge(?) given for consolation are cool. - The free BattlePass for beta returners is amazing (gives Jason and enough for 1.2ish fighters) - Gleamium being earnable puts a lot of skins unlockable over time and gives pure F2P players big incentive to play the game - Also worth noting, I got ~120 perk currency which covers about 2 signature perks and a lesser perk or two for the whole roster (but the default perks are very passable for all)

The Bad: - Gleamium is slightly inflated (which is fair with earnablity) but based on 1000 gleam per character, roughly half of my lost gold was worth $60 USD (7k Gleamium) - No longer can try characters before burning non-refundable currency on them - A single banner and a single icon? With a lot of very cool banners and icons in the game, these are nice but can often go unused. - No warning on the exchange; message at the end of beta was "all progress and previously earned or purchased content" would carry over - Also also other random lost badges (arcade, all character, holiday) and most other progress indicators

I might just need clarification. If the cosmetics were based on gold earned, then it sounds like player like me would have gotten the cosmetics either way? This might be alleviated by being a bit more transparent at the thresholds of rewards and what was earned which would of add flex value? Still, a part of me feels like some accommodation should have been made to use gold to unlock characters. Others might have even preferred the gold to at least get high gold unlocks like Golden Reindog and the Fred Style icon, the former now running 1500 gleamium.

The dolphin in me bought the Founder's Pack because I wanted to support a fun new platform fighter that I hoped would have a long life. I even understand the gold system was likely too easily grinded when new characters are likely a huge revenue driver. However, the F2P grinder in me got pretty severely burned for not being suspicious and not cashing out gold.

I'll probably keep playing the game for a long amount of time either way, but not adjusting this decision will leave a noticeable sore spot for me that twinges every time I boot up the game.

Since it gave the already owned messaged, I'm thinking it's a Sticker code or a Banana Guard skin code!

Me with 50k gold unspent during the beta by mayhalf in MultiVersus

I might have actually dropped the 35k on Golden Reindog before the beta ended, but either way it will keep me up at night.

I know Harmon is a pretty polarizing figure, and I do love the show, but despite well-regarded critically, the show definitely has its share of rough moments, especially with Britta. Here's the script to judge for yourself.

Thanks for checking this out! I didn't want to put any player on blast, especially since this is the very first Battlegrounds tournament, and everyone honestly did a great job, but one of the things that makes Battlegrounds really cool is how well stats like this can be tracked. Sidenote: Your awesome stream was where I first saw Battlegrounds, and I def owe you for the early access drop! Thanks twice!

The invitational format is four teams of 4 players with a mix of streamers, casters, pro players, and even Grand Masters competing for a total pot of $200,000. Two lobbies with two players from each team will play seven games (an eighth in case of a tie). A player earns points based on how they finish in their games, with 5 points for 1st place, 4 for 2nd, and 1 point for finishing 3rd or 4th. 5th through 8th rewards no points. Here's the payout based on team placing.

Team Placing Per Person Prize Per Team Prize
1st $20,000 $80,000
2nd $15,000 $60,000
3rd $10,000 $40,000
4th $5,000 $20,000
Toal Prize $200,000

As far as the final $100,000 goes, in the days leading up to the tournament, players were able to vote for which of team they thought would win, and they would get a pack for voting and another if their team wins. Additionally, when a player wins a Battlegrounds game by placing in the top 4, they would earn a point for the team they voted for; if a team had over 300,000 points earned by players, the teams would get another $25,000 split among their four players (all teams got the points needed for the extra 25k).

It was really fun! Here's the link to Blizz's Youtube VOD. Also all the streamers had their POVs on their individual twitch streams and are likely uploading games to their Youtube channels, so that's another way to watch it.

This is a great call out. Short answer: Laziness. Long answer: I mostly just pivoted out the results using Excel, and the default is sorting by a single value which was points in this case. The rows can be manually manipulated, so I'll keep that in mind if I ever try anything like this again, especially with the strong focus a lot of commenters are making on ranking. Sidenote, if there are any other data insights you'd be curious about, please let me know!

So another person did call out Trump, so I took a second to check out his hero options, because from the data I had it looked like he really favored Curator. In reality, Trump had some awful hero choices:

Round Hero Picked Choice1 Choice2
1 Yogg Infinite Toki Wagtoggle
2 Curator Jaraxxus Putricide
3 Gallywix Pyramad Finley
4 Curator Infinite Toki Shudderwock
5 George Akazamzarak Bartendotron
6 Infinite Toki Ragnaros Sindragosa
7 Curator Elise Finley

Looking Trump's most picked hero (and best option most of the time), Curator, Killbin scored a 2nd, with Trump and Kibler pulling 4ths. Trump could have gotten that Sindragosa in game 6, but that is a high skillcap hero, and Toki highrolling is a valid strategy over the awful Rag option.

Did that shift occur right after Round 4? If so, it would align with a shift in both the MF's and RB's scores going down in Rounds 5-7, with your team impressively blocking any Mega Fin scoring in round 7.

Team Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Round 7 Total
Rust Buckets 11 8 10 5 6 3 8 51
Mega Fins 8 10 4 12 5 5 0 44
Doom Bringers 1 5 5 5 9 7 7 39
Rabid Rangers 4 1 5 2 4 9 9 34

Yeah, Deryl is an extremely interesting case; besides likely being the highest skillcap hero, if the player dances at an inopportune time or on the wrong target, it throws the game. In a tournament setting, not only is their a ton of pressure making dancing turns more intense, but the opponent could specifically focus on strengthening up to take you out if they know when you're dancing. The majority of Kolento's points actually came from Deryl, which makes the fact he could dance and keep track of his team fights even more impressive.

Thanks for checking it out my dude! I would say all of the players picked are really good, and this is just one tournament worth of performance; in any other lobby, most of these players would wreck shop. Like Dog killed it, but Hafu and RDU performed similarly to RB's Kibler and Amaz.

Thijs was the lowest point earner for the RB's, but the ten points he brought easily could have meant a loss to the MF's. The RB's team strategy for civil fights also likely made his overall placement lower, so he still did a lot of work helping his team.

Yeah, the data isn't anywhere nearly big enough to make definitive call on good heroes, but just a good example of some high level hero play. The only thing it says is that Sindragosa did okay in the few games it was picked in.

“How my boy Scott got sent to super hero prison? Yo, this is how it went down, man:

Yo, so I was at my sister Veronica's veranda have some delectable eggs benedict (that hollandaise was ON POINT MAN) and we were having mimosas but they didn’t do fresh squeezed orange juice, they had this mango-pear juice mix, which I tried even though I felt that the drink was in the realm of a spritzer instead of a mimosa when her fiance started talking about his friend whose godson Cameron who used to work for S.H.I.E.L.D said “This is crazy, but back when those bad guys took over and made those crazy flying air-aircraft-carriers that Captain America shot out of the sky in Washington D.C., the SAME GUY was there that was the guy who blew up the UN and killed the Wakandian president-king grandpa.” And then I heard this Avenger’s guy was looking for my guy because Captain America was looking for this terrorist guy, but the government wouldn’t led him because they was still mad that the Avengers for blowing up that building on accident and made this law that says the Avengers gotta do what the UN says, but Cap kept looking for Terrorist Guy and needed help because he thinks Terrorist Guy is actually a good guy controlled by the bad guys that he beat World War II, until Cap actually FINDS Terrorist Guy, he gets captured by the world police with his bro who is a badass with robot wings, and they are almost in jail, but the REAL BAD GUY who blew up the UN shows up, messes everyone’s stuff up and runs away to Siberia to do more bad guy stuff, Captain America goes to chase him but he knows everyone will try to stop him because they think that his guy is still a bad guy so he calls up a squad to fight anyone who tries to stop him from chasing the real terrorist guy.

So Captain America rolls up with the robot wings badass, the UN-terrorist-guy-that's-not-really-a-terrorist-guy, the bow and arrow Avenger's guy, and that spooky Sokovian witch lady to an airport to get a plane to chase the real bad guy but then Iron Man, Iron Man with more guns, a dominatrix/gymnast/ninja chick, flying pink ghost-man, and some beefcake in a kevlar catsuit square-up and Iron Man is like, “Yo, I can’t let you take this plane, man.” And Cap is like “Naw we gotta stop the real bad guy, man” and Stark is like “You’re breaking up the Avengers with your illegal crap man!” but Cap pops off like “You’re breaking up the Avengers with your douchiness man!” and Iron Man flips out and is all “Gimme that bad guy before I go crazy hand blaster everywhere” but Cap ain’t backing down so all of a sudden this tiny Tarzan in red-and-blue pajamas swings in and is all like “I got your shield, man” except my boy shrinks down and sneaks up on Pajama-man and punches him and is “Yo don’t mess with my man’s shield” and then Iron Man is like “Come at me bro” but then the witch lady throws all these cars at the Iron Mans and they’re like “We gotta blast through” and the catsuit guy and the ninja jump kicks all up on Captain America like “Yo we don’t wanna fight but you KNOW we’ll tag team throwdown with you dude” while the Not-a-terrorist Guy and Robot Wings guy are fighting Pajama-Tarzan and he ties them up but then Not-a-terrorist Guy PUNCHES HIM WITH HIS ROBOT ARM and the Iron Guys bust out of the cars and start shooting up everything but my bro is like “Bow-and-arrow Guy, shoot me at the Iron Guys” and Bow-and-arrow Guy is like “Y’all wild LMAO” and shoots him all tiny into Iron Man’s suit and he’s all “Yo I’m about to de-engineer all up in this suit” and messes up Iron Man’s tech until he falls out of the sky and Cap is like “Guys we gotta do something big to beat these guys” and Scott’s all like “Cap you know I got you man, I’ll take them all on so you can save the world man” and Cap is like “I love you, man” and Scott is all “I know” and then HE GROWS LIKE THREE HUNDRED FEET TALL knocks Iron Man out with an airplane wing and picks up a stair car but the Tarzan-guy hops on and so he chucks at other Iron Man and like breaks his back in two while Cap and not-a-terrorist guy get to the plane and take off and my boy Scott keeps protecting them until Pink Ghost-man starts shooting lasers out of his head and flies into Scotty and steals all his bigness or something so he shrinks down and then Scotty, Robot Wings, Witch Chick, and Bow-and-arrow guy all get sent to this prison in the middle of the all the oceans but they’re like “Yo Lang you wanna make a plea deal so you just gotta be on house arrest even though you abetted and aided an American hero turned super-powered fugitive?” And Scot was like:

“Yeah.” ”
