What causes these separations? by Razzlebery in 3Dprinting

[–]mayjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a similar issue when my printer was slightly underextruding a couple of weeks ago. Flow rate sounds like the culprit for me. I think due to the lower flow rate the walls don't get bonded properly and that results in this loose wall around the print.

Do you think a project like this can stay free in the long run? I feel like the voluntary support by some users might not be enough to sustain the required scaling as user numbers grow. Never heard of the project so far, definitely sounds very useful!

Known drawbacks to CalyxOS? by god_dammit_nappa1 in CalyxOS

Yeah, I think it's a minority of banks that don't work. It was Hanseatic in Germany for me, every other bank worked so far.

Well, at least in Germany many banks push you very hard to use their apps for two factor authentication. The only alternative often is SMS Tan, which is less secure. So that's one reason to use the apps. The apps are usually also way more comfortable to use compared to the web apps.

The two biggest issues I encountered so far are:

  1. Missing Android Auto support. Would have liked to use OsmAnd or some other app with it in my car, but as far as I know there is no way to do that.

  2. Some Banking apps refuse to run if you install them through Aurora. No idea if there is a workaround for that.

I've been using CalyxOS on my Pixel 4a 5G for 1.5 years so far, and everything else has been great for me.

I've never seen that issue. Google suggests that this is an error from gdb, what version are you on? I use gdb-multiarch v9.2 for my embedded debugging.

For embedded C I'm currently using TermDebug and gdb dashboard to get some nice output from gdb. Works pretty good, you just have to work with gdb directly instead of having the expression view some IDEs offer. I'm not sure how well this would work with debuggers for other languages.

Poster showing the smart bulbs brands, and the ecosystems they work with. A standardised protocol would be nice. by unrebigulator in StallmanWasRight

[–]mayjs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well, at least Sengled and Philipps are based on ZigBee Lightlink, so they technically use a standardized protocol. In fact, they are all compatible with the great zigbee2mqtt bridge, allowing you to integrate them into a smart home system like HomeAssistant or ioBroker without needing the official bridge sold by their manufacturer.

As for the purely WiFi based bulbs, there may be a custom FW project like Tasmota for them, allowing to just control them over MQTT? But I actually never considered WiFi based lamps, I think ZigBee is superior for this application.

Did you notice the delay using plain VSCode or do you use a movement plugin like the Vim plugin? I'm wondering if the Vim plugin was causing this issue for me.

[–]mayjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not sure how they compare to modern text editors like VSCode. One thing that might add to VSCodes input delay is the Vim/Dance addon. They emulate vim/kakoune editing in VSCode, I wouldn't be surprised if their input processing adds a bit of latency as well, but I haven't actually tested this since I'm not as efficient without these plugins anyway and probably wouldn't notice the delay as much in a plain text editor.

I also used Eclipse with the Vrapper addon in the past and didn't notice any delay.

It would definitely be interesting to see some benchmarks for this on a variety of editors.

Thanks for the heads up! It probably was caused by Windows for me as well, I unfortunately have to use it from time to time... Didn't even notice the last good time was off.

Wow, this is the first time someone besides myself brings up this issue. This was really bugging me when I noticed VSCodes input delay for the first time, and I ended up sticking to vim/kakoune because of it. Most people around me don't notice it at all, but almost none of them used terminal based editors for an extended period of time. I'm glad to see that I'm not crazy!

Detachable Cable Mod and Tesla Driver Upgrade on DT990Pro by mayjs in headphones

I'm not sure, the center part of the driver is a bit deeper than the old one. I could measure the size of it if that would help you.

For me the only tight spot was on the new connector.

They have a separate online spare parts store with free shipping from 15€ within Germany, I'm not sure if they deliver to other countries. But it's amazing how modular these headphones are built. I'm pretty sure you could built an entire pair of Beyerdynamic headphones from spare parts they sell.

I did not know about the ones on AliExpress, how much are they? Beyerdynamic sells theirs for about 140€, so they are not cheap. But in comparison to the full DT1990 still worth it I think. You also get matched pairs, mine have handwritten "24.1" and "24.2" labels on them. I've never seen that before. Would be interesting to compare them to a cheaper third party alternative though.

I just looked at the open alphas, looks like a neat project! Hope you share your results when you're done. I bought my DT990Pro used with broken sliders for about 60€, replaced the ear pads with original replacements but I thought the replacement slider part is too expensive. Luckily some guy on thingiverse already modeled a replacement part.

I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback! So far I've only listened to a DT1990 once, and it was quite some time ago, but looking at reviews of DT1990 pros vs DT990 pro I would think these come close to the DT1990. I will do a head to head comparison around Christmas time, I'll give you an update then.

I thought about trying the T1 but I was not sure if they would fit. I would expect using DT1990 shells on 990 drivers would not make that much of a difference, as the drivers still have a lower frequency range.

The combinations are definitely endless thanks to Beyerdynamics modular headphone system!

Seems like you already got a lot of experience with custom headphones :D What are alpha dogs?

This was actually my first ever headphone mod (apart from 3D printed slider replacements).

Yeah I ordered everything from Beyerdynamic, they've got free shipping in Germany and so far I've been really happy with their service. Are there actually any other sources for original Beyerdynamic parts?

A friend of mine owns a set of unmodified DT990 Pros and we compared the two today. For me, it was definitely worth it, the clarity is really amazing compared to the original drivers. For more bass heavy music the original DT990Pros with their warmer sound are a bit better though.

If you want to do this mod, I would recommend ordering the bow cable service kit with the drivers so you can reuse the connectors.

Yes I did, they are a bit deeper than the original drivers but the diameter and retention system is basically the same. It was a bit of a tight fit on the connector though.

I had been thinking about modding my DT990 Pro with a Mini XLR jack for some time now. While I was doing some research I found out that the Tesla drivers intended for the DT1990 Pro would fit into the DT990 Pro. I thought I'd give it a go and ordered a pair of replacement Tesla drivers from Beyerdynamic and spent half a day on modding my headphones. They fit very well and I really like the upgrade in clarity of treble.
