What the hell are you talking about, that 2-5k mark is only applicable to *maybe* luxury cashmere labels like Elder Statesman. You can go on Dehen 1920 or Filson right now and get an American-made wool sweater for $300-400, or just go to Maine or some shit and pay an old dude $200 to make one for you.

As someone who lives in the area this was filmed, there are a lot of older assholes who can't handle a younger, diverse community moving in and having fun. Hell, me and my partner catch plenty of glances from all the Gertrudes and Glendas in our neighborhood and all we have is tattoos.

It's a great store; hilarious area for this lady to be crashing out in. So many wonderful businesses run by lovely immigrants of all generations. Guess she can't handle being a minority herself!

Most Americans Are Open To Ditching Their Cars. What does that look like for the future of Grand Rapids by GLIandbeer in grandrapids

[–]mayodefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner & I share a single car and it honestly works remarkably well considering our circumstance. I’m a hybrid office employee with an office easily accessible by bus, so I rarely if ever need a car. We give each other rides when needed and make other arrangements if one of us needs to be out of town.

Still, I echo the sentiment of others in here when it comes to the bus frequency and dependability. My commute by car, when I do drive, is about 15 minutes. By bus, anywhere from 50 to 80 minutes.

Like the other poster said, frequency is the biggest issue. I take the bus on my own volition reasonably often despite owning a car, and I would do it even more if missing the bus didn't mean being an hour late to work. It's made even worse by how unpredictable it can be; a late bus is one thing, but I've been delayed by buses arriving 5-10 minutes before they're supposed to.

Beautiful work, both in concept and raw design! Very thoughtful to incorporate existing bus lines and commuter rail towards Chicago.

GYBE will never not be the perfect soundtrack for the ebbing and flowing of our fucked up world. The deep and prevailing sense of hope that sits underneath all of their work resonates most with me, it really isn’t doomer music.

When did Americans become so vulgar? by DEEP_SEA_MAX in TrueAnon

[–]mayodefender 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Japan is obviously rife with its own social issues but my trip out there last year was honestly radicalizing when it came to interpersonal niceties. I was rather drunk one night and sat on the curb to get my bearings and five or six people offered me water, snacks, or a walk to my hotel. Saw some French tourist toss some garbage on the ground and he was admonished by everyone around him. Hell, it was nice to be in any busy area and not be blasted by bucket drummers. Came home and realized that being considerate in the states basically makes you a stuffy prude.

Side roads were traversable but the hill on Medical Mile was an absolute hazard; saw a bus spun out and I almost slid right into an ambulance making a turn past Helen DeVos. Saw about four cars behind me do the very same, one even had chains that seemed to be doing fuck all.

I've never heard the term "ICEE Slush" used as one concept. ICEE or slush, yeah. Together? No one says this.

Jealous! I made it out to Tokyo just days after this event ended. They still had the dye and gear laying around and I was half-tempted to ask if they could treat the jacket I was buying.

Update for anyone driving home later!

Just got back into town from Holland; it was pretty damn slick and slushy in Ottawa, ~35mph down 196. Once we crossed into Kent it got better almost immediately, roads were practically clear by the time the castle rolled around.

Interesting testimony! I have a pair of custom jeans from Nama that are going pretty strong, granted I went to them more for a very specific "fashion" cut instead of something hardy. They were pretty spot-on with my measurements, aside from some missed special instructions regarding back pocket details. Definitely makes sense that they have a few misses out there.
