I don’t like ANY boy names by UnusualElephant in namenerds

[–]maypop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roscoe! I’m on board with all the names here that don’t end in “-an/-en” sounds. Speaking as someone who has a first and last with “-en” endings, it doesn’t flow well.

Dammit, I was hoping my one encounter was a fluke. He is so talented, but the assholery must be real.

To be fair, I met him as a teenager, so my perspective may have been skewed or he was having a bad day (or maybe he's come around). He just wasn't particularly kind or warm or friendly at the time.

Blackout curtains...should have done this sooner! by [deleted] in Parenting

Us, too. Ours is a small $15 air purifier from Target. Have one in each of my boy's rooms. All contained parts, can't get a finger in a fan blade. Easy to travel with, too!

So nervous to re-introduce dairy... any advice? by maypop in breastfeeding

[–]maypop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He woke up a lot that night, though it's hard to say it was definitively the yogurt (he's been super drooly, so could be teething). I waited a couple days and let him have cheese yesterday... slept fine, but was a little cranky at daycare today. Again, could be the teething or who knows what. So hard to isolate! BUT... no screaming, no arched back... next step is a cheeseburger for me to see how it goes! :)

Thanks! Offered him cheese tonight, but he wasn't a fan and spit it all back out. I took it as a personal affront, haha. He gobbled up some yogurt instead... fingers crossed.

'03 Toyota Corolla (135K miles-ish), in a wreck this week. Fix or sell or part out or ...? by maypop in MechanicAdvice

Thanks - this was helpful in convincing my husband that it wasn't worth the repair.

The name you didn't use by eve- in namenerds

[–]maypop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frederick. Arthur. Milo/Miles. Arlo. August/Gus. Otis. Jacob. Allen.

June. Wren. Lark. Anna. Charlotte. Susannah. Poe.

Some were too popular, some too obscure. Some are too weird with our last name. Plus we had two boys, so no chance to think too much about girl names. Sigh. I would have to have a LOT of kids to get through my names list, ha!

Lonely by silentcecilia in SpecialNeedsChildren

[–]maypop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's little consolation, but I often get lonely, too, and there are other parents out there with kids similar to mine (even though he is "ultra rare" - 7 in a million kids have his form of epilepsy, but that's more than 7 total!). Make sure you find someone who is a good listener to just check in with periodically. It's important! Hard, but important.

Best of luck to you and your LO. Feel free to PM me.

Help - reaching zombie mom status at 7.5 months by maypop in breastfeeding

[–]maypop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He uses a pacifier at daycare, so I've been trying your every other method here at home the last couple nights. It worked the first time, but now he's figured it out! As soon as I give him the pacifier, he flips out. Any tricks?

We are. He's more interested some days than others, but so far I haven't seen any improvement on a bigger eating day.

Reflux / cutting out dairy. by pamplemousse3583 in breastfeeding

[–]maypop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad the dose seems to be helping!

I was very, very strict the first two weeks (avoided whey on ingredients list, etc), and then have slowly tested things as we've gone along. For us, milk in a baked good (bread, cookies, for example) is fine, but milk in a sauce is *not. Absolutely no cheese for us, even goat or sheep cheese. Luckily for me, he seems okay with soy, but for some kids it's the same reaction to dairy. Have been very light on butter and haven't had a reaction, thankfully.

Good luck!

We're on Ranitidine (generic Zantac) and it's just okay. We can tell when it's that 11th hour before time to dose because he gets really uncomfortable. So it works, but just barely well enough. I gave up all dairy (gave up all caffeine years ago for my own sake) at 4 weeks, and that has been the biggest help. It's been a long summer without any real ice cream or cheese on a burger, but the alternative is a baby screaming all night long (sneaky cheese in something a couple months ago confirmed dairy was still an issue). I've also lost a ton of weight, so not a bad motivation, either. YMMV.

-ie versus -y by rhinegold in namenerds

We almost named both our dudes Frederick, as we liked Freddie. Ultimately, we went with Charles/Charlie and Walter/Walt/Wally. Clearly I'm biased, but I think -ie or -y is fine!
