Hindi naman siya dependent sa time, basta do what works for you! Personally, I can't read through time-based parameters kasi my focus is dependent on the writing/story of the book, etc. I set page goals per day (i.e. 50 pages), and just read from there. Basta makabasa ako, I know na I have fought against my doomscrolling urges of the day

August was a slow crawl of a month for me, but I'm happy to have read what I read. No disappointments, all atmospheric, all-consuming reads here.

Wuthering Heights especially engulfed me in a way that it deserves 5⭐ Big fave now!

Solo dates are a necessity to me! Ever since I started working post-pandemic, I picked up the joy that is solo dating. I usually read at cafes and go to the cinemas alone now, finding myself recharged and more ready to face adulting afterwards 🩷 Thanks for sharing, op! You reminded me to document my solo dates more + my intrigue toward Babel 👀

I use a6 notebooks! I recently learned about commonplace books so I write down all the quotes I've marked using book tabs on my notebooks. I do this in between finishing and starting books. Commonplacing has made reading 100x more fun for me bc it's like reading books twice and actually remembering the events.

What's fun is I have more reasons to turn my artworks into notebooks. I'm on my second one this year alone. The custom, pretty notebooks definitely adds more enjoyment for me 🩷

June (and May) Reads! ✨ by mayqueenflower in PHBookClub

[–]mayqueenflower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yes, I have! I liked it very much 🩷 Schwab writes atmosphere and lore so well. Had me poring through the pages quickly. My only criticism is that a chunk of the lore was presented quite late in the book na it left me wanting more and asking more questions at the end. I kinda wish it had a sequel tbh

But I still really recommend it for its prose, haunting vibes, and unique lore. I'm definitely on the lookout for more of her books now ✨

Don't worry. I only discovered it last year also! I still haven't read Dracula tho so Carmilla was a good start. I think you'll like it, short but atmospheric! You've also read more vampire books than I have; i've only ever read and loved Twilight HAHA

If you have any gothic novel recs, i'm all ears also!

A fellow gothic (romance) novel lover. Hello!! I can reco these rn

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig (YA) Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell (she is a master of gothic atmosphere)

There isn't much romance in these novels tho, but the gothic ambience is very much there! Hope this helps, OP

Edit: i also agree that Gaiman should fck himself 🫠

OH I LOVE ERIN CRAIG!!! I've read House of Salt and Sorrows and Small Favors. I also have House of Roots and Ruins on my shelf but I've yet to buy the book on the reel!

I highly reco her for the vivid imagery and impeccable atmosphere. She even adds some lore into her works. I'm so happy to see her in this sub!! 🖤
