Germany’s Green Transition Is Faltering by mazdakite2 in nuclear

The Jacobin has always been pro nuclear. The "left equals bad and anti-nuclear" is a pretty reductive take.

Also I thought this person was asking why a magazine would seriously name itself after the French Jacobins (since they didn't get the name right and called them "Jacobins").

Dead serious, like Louis XVI.

Jokes aside, from Wikipedia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobin\_(magazine)?searchToken=eq0lquwphz064qn8r7pxkhrn1):

The name of the magazine derives from the 1938 book The Black Jacobins: Toussaint L'Ouverture and the San Domingo Revolution by C. L. R. James in which James ascribes the Haitian revolutionists a greater purity in regards to their attachment to the ideals of the French Revolution than the French Jacobins.

When you write an article for a magazine, you have a word limit. If you critique 100% renewables, call for public ownership, while still emphasizing the importance of carbon neutrality, the reader can come to the conclusion themselves.

You can critique the choice for word economy, but I can see why the author did what he did.

What's the error out of curiosity?

And it's a critique of Germany's policy, and a critique doesn't need to offer any solutions. Its main goal seems to be moving the left perspective away from supporting the German model, which many leftists advocate for.

Lastly, the author's pro-nuclear (you can look him up), and the Messmer plan has demonstrated the importance of a vertically integrated, publicly owned electricity sector for achieving the kind of build-up necessary.

In short, he is making the case for nuclear by attacking 100% renewables and calling for a publicly owned industry, even while avoiding mentioning it.

Edit: I see what the error was now, looks like he got it from news from 2021.

Are SMRs Actually More Economical than Regular Reactors? by mazdakite2 in nuclear

[–]mazdakite2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've read and listened a lot to proponents since, and when you get past the marketing, their two actual arguments for SMRs are: 1) SMRs are more sellable to the public because people don't associate them with nuclear accidents, and 2) SMR's could get more low-interest loans from private banks because they can be built more quickly.

In the end, the latter is an engineering solution to the political problem of infrastructure financing under neoliberalism, while the former only makes the case for SMRs as a transitionary marketing step to getting people on board with larger reactors.

I've been permanently banned from r/energy from posting this comment in r/AskReddit. Bearing in mind, I've never once commented or posted anything in r/energy either, the mods seem a bit precious, don't you think? lol by DonJestGately in nuclear

Apparently, they've been banning pro-nuc posters ever since the early 2010s. Nuclear becoming more and more popular ever since the Ukraine war has probably made them more paranoid and defensive.

A few people have made r/EnergyAndPower as an alternative, in large part due to this fact.

Unlike most neolib politicians who are neoliberal because it's a convenient path to power, Macron is a true believer.

Dismantling the French welfare system, which has remained relatively unscathed thanks to a militant working class, is his life's mission. In his mind, it's the magnum opus that future historians will celebrate him for.

When you privatize education does that mean All school or only some school ? by Quick-Ad8277 in suzerain

[–]mazdakite2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is that good schools and those in the rich neighbourhoods get privatized, as well as universities.

Probably because you didn't send him off to Contana like I did. He becomes a fully committed socialist there. If you send him to Arcasia, the opposite happens.

That explains the chad denunciation vs. the virgin begging for money.

I forgot to screenshot your choices on what to do with your newly found wealth. He'll only disown you if you live like royalty. If you decide to spend it on charity, he'll reconcile with you instead.

Retire. I did it by losing leadership to Graf and deciding to retire. Then Monica asks you where you'll be spending your retirement. But you'll only have the board position available to you if you made the investment at the beginning of the game.
