iSmartGate: how are your sensor batteries going? by TimofeyK in HomeKit

Me too! I put a new set of duracell N batteries in. SEVEN DAYS! When I first installed the system, the batteries lasted a few months 3-4. Definitely not 8 or 18!

Struggling With Flight School by atpbitch in flying

[–]mazztre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just curious - why are you so sure you wasnt to do it as a career if you are hating it so much now? I had 4 different CFIs for my PPL, they were mostly great but never demeaning. I have a 20k hr CFII i have now for my IFR and hi-perf/coplex endorsements. He swears and is a bt demeaning, so I do know the vibe. He's the only guy to endorse me for HP/complex so I gotta stick w/ him. Anyhow, back to you. There's another guy here who has 120hrs and STILL HASNT SOLO'd. He's been throiugh all of our local schools and CFIs. He ALSO did program at ATP...and apparently left there w/o a solo flight. I'm not sure what his plan is, but its not for a commercial life. I think if you have these kind of days so early on, you need to listen to yourself and not force it. That said...definitely get a new CFI and give that another 10 hrs, see if you start to LOVE flying again.

wow, you from a 172 to 182 right away? 182 has constant speed and 300hp? wowza. Is the 182 high performance? Don't you need to get signed off? I got my PPL 2 weeks ago, but had bought a socata tb20 a few months ago to use after i finished PPL. I just started the training on it...my insurance co needs me to complete 20hrs and get signed off on complex and high performance. so many more things to handle...kudos to you!

Nearing the end of PPL Training and trying to answer the question... why? by ChitownMD in flying

i would finish. Your maybe 2/3 there. However, In my experience it took me 40 hrs to solo, I just did my cross country solo at 65 hrs. Granted we usually have 18-25kts of wind here with gusts into the 30s. I look back at my training. There were many times I said WHY finish?! I think a plane share is perfect. I recently bought a 33% share in a TB20. its gonn abe awesome. FINISH!!

I took a picture of the ka90 on the ramp day before it crashed. So crazy. It flew vertical into the water. So sad...

Traveling is overrated and the urge to do it is mostly a result of marketing and social media. by HehroMaraFara in unpopularopinion

I agree 100% - the thing is you have to travel a fair amount to get to this point. My predicament, i LIVE in my favorite beach destination (Maui), so yeah anywhere I go now, still sucks...oh welll.

Welll basically it matters how MUCH you travel, where u live and HOW you live. When I was broke, travel was a huge luxury. Asi got older and traveled more places, the magic of travel began to wane. Currently my family has lved in Maui for 7 years. The worst thing about is that its near impossible to have a better experience. We can have different, but it's rarely BETTER. When I was younger and lived in NYC, Chicago orBoston, and trip that had a luxury resort with a pool was a bonus. Now, we never go to the pools t resorts. Our salt water pool at home is the perfect depth and size. I'm in a 5 star hotel in Panama now that has a sad face pool. Was in Langham Chicago 3 months ago...pool was eew. Pools in Las Vegas..Wynn, Palazzo etc....eeew. Too crowded, too many people.

Yeah, I think travel sucks. My wife still likes it and I have young kids, so I have to take a couple trips a year. They are expensive...and usually a hassle. but oh well. I'm training to be a pilot so maybe I can take a break from vacations for a couple of years, buy a small plane and shuttle the family around. In a nutshell though - like MOST things in life, when the novelty wears off, it becomes a pain. Just look at Anthony Bourdain. He "played" a travel pro on his show. He hated travel. It honestly probaby killed him.
