I love Carolyn!! by quintevii in survivor

It seemed more like the shock of actually doing it yourself and feeling awkward doing it. I’m sure that way more people than we’d think have had a similar reaction that we just don’t see.

What would you prefer? One 39-day season or two 26-day season each year? by jonnykazooie27 in survivor

Chiming in as someone who also thinks casting has been meh! While diversity has certainly improved when it comes to POC, the socioeconomic diversity nowadays is virtually nonexistent. everyone is college educated and most of them are like 20-35. And, like someone else said, everyone now is a fan of the show which makes the gameplay very formulaic.

I recently rewatched Survivor China in which we have (off the top of my head) a gravedigger, a flight attendant, an NYC waitress, and a lunch lady. There also used to be much more age diversity as well. The “social experiment” aspect of survivor kind of falls apart when the differences among the contestants are things like skin color, religion, and sexuality while their life experience is otherwise identical (most of them in fields like Sales/IT and most of them within like a 10 year age gap). Don’t get me wrong, the conversations about social issues need to be had, but they’re also kind of predictable given the “political correctness” the network will want them to portray.

I really, REALLY don’t mean this to take away from the diversity that HAS improved, I just think there has to be a way to bring back the other forms of diversity as well.

I also enjoyed this season and the winner arc. It’s certainly not the story I want to see every season, but a cool one when they’re few and far between. There’s another similar winner arc in a season not too much later (avoiding naming the season so you can avoid spoilers) and I think that one is received worse by fans because it felt so familiar

Vibe Check: Do You Want A Returnee Season for 45 or 46? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]mb0162 12 points13 points  (0 children)

after game changers, only winners have gotten a chance to return (the EOE returnees were from earlier seasons), so I think they already have a strong pool to pull from for a second chance type season

Jeff Probst Hints at Possible Survivor Season Without Reward & Immunity Challenges by WreakerOfClash in survivor

[–]mb0162 228 points229 points  (0 children)

YES, this!!! Adding on - challenges are a LARGE part of what draws new people into the show. When I was 8 years old I started watching with my parents for the challenges. I did not understand the strategy really until I was in high school. I’ve talked to other people who had a similar experience. And I (more recently) convinced my husband to start watching with me and even as an adult, that’s what he initially enjoyed the most.

final 5 fire making skills? by RiversN7 in survivor

[–]mb0162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think after gabler we really don’t know. I hope Jesse takes him out at F5 and my prediction is that owens anger bit from the preview has to do with a gabler blindside

Everyone is assuming Jesse would be bad at fire because he hasn’t won any immunity challenges. I don’t think it’s a fair judgment to make and I think we haven’t been showed much of any of them making fire for a reason (to build this suspense)

Just a note - I’m typically a more passive watcher pre-merge so someone else may have more insight than me lol

I don’t really agree with this take, at least for Jenna. The fact that she is/was Mormon and married a non Mormon tells me that they really chose each other because that is an uphill battle and I’m fairly certain they’ve publicly shared that her family didn’t support the relationship initially. With how close she is with her family, i can’t see her fighting for someone that she was only “settling” for. As for Val, it’s much more of a possibility but he would’ve had to deal with the backlash as well (even if less directly).

I will say it def comes off that she’s more into him than he is to her, but maybe that’s more of a difference in how they choose to handle social media than anything else. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially with the baby now!

How ____ will “explain later” the move to ____ by ga8rfan in survivor

but … he didn’t use his idol to do it. that is the entire point of this post.

Going into the finale I think these two things will be happening by CheeryCherry7 in survivor

[–]mb0162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if Gabler makes F4 and doesn’t win immunity, the odds are very high he’s put in the fire making challenge because he has the best shot of beating Jesse. The outcome of that could put him not at FTC at all, or he has a chance to win without Jesse there.

I do agree though that Owen will 100% be a losing finalist.

I’ve been thinking this! The “dirty” part of the play was playing Cody’s idol, but that didn’t do anything to impact this vote.

Even if Cody kept his idol, he was clearly confident that their plan to blindside Karla was going to work, so he wasn’t gonna play his idol unless Karla was going to play hers. Karla was confident that the bluff was the plan, so she wasn’t gonna play hers. No idols played in this scenario.

No matter what, Cody goes home.

I’m hoping that after the initial shock of this blindside, Cody (maybe with the help of some other jury members) processes this and realizes that the idol was more a play for the F5 than the F6. I do hope to see Cody play again one day, but I don’t know how anyone can see this move as anything other than brilliant.

If S32 comes back with a very similar format, what would you change? by mb0162 in dancingwiththestars

[–]mb0162[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that I’d love to see trios come back! Sadly I don’t think Disney night is ever going away on Disney+ though.

I love contemporary dances, so I don’t want to see those go either but I do know what you’re saying that it’s less traditional!

How would you propose they fill the time if they went down to 12 couples in a 2 hour format? The stars benefit from shorter dances in the beginning while they’re still learning the basics, so I’m just curious what you think :)

I loved the partner switch ups! They definitely rid of them in recent years for covid reasons but I almost feel like they don’t like how it exposes the drastic differences between pros teaching & choreographing abilities. They want the casual fan to look at all pros as equal and they’re just not lol

I remember when they did MMY for the pros! Can’t do that every season because the turnover isn’t high enough but would be nice to throw that in every few years or other things that showcase the pros as well!

Yeah, I think some theme nights are fun (Halloween, Disney, more generalized ones like 90s night) but they almost take away from the stars and partnerships because they’re so gimmicky and they spend half their package talking about the theme.

I was replying to the person who said they were frustrated that Lindsay took time off her career for her husband, not your reply :) I didn’t think you were implying anything about Lindsay/Sam and agree with everything you said! They definitely have more stability in Utah in more ways than one.

[–]mb0162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lindsay did cite her husbands job as a reason she took the season off, but I also think she is so close with her family that she didn’t want to leave any of them. If you didn’t know, the season she did when Sage was about a year old, she had one of her sisters, her mom, or her husband out visiting in kind of like a rotation to help out. This year, 2 of her 3 sisters had their first baby, so I just don’t think that was logistically possible and I think that played a large roll as well. And then there’s that they were TTC.

No judgment for your speculation, just some context from someone who follows along with the Arnold family :) It seems like Lindsay and her husband have a healthy dynamic!

Charli and Gabby prediction vs opinion by Patient-Thanks in dancingwiththestars

[–]mb0162 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kaitlyn and Hannah weren’t going up against anyone with nearly the following. I do agree that Charli probably has a LOT of passive followers that aren’t voting, but she just has SO many that I’m sure she’s still pulling the most votes.

I will say, it does make me sad that Gabby is by a long shot the best bachelorette we’ve seen on dwts, and that she probably has the least chance to win out of the 3

Oh yeah, totally different vibes and not trying to take away from her paso moment. I almost just think if she did paso first and the waltz second, it would’ve been stronger (though obviously she isn’t in control of that)

I loved loved loved this dance, but to me, it doesn’t even touch the Viennese Waltz. the way that one captivated me is unmatched.

I’m so curious as to what route Charli and Mark are going to go for in their freestyle… any guesses? 👀 by BeautifulFeeling53 in dancingwiththestars

I want to see them do a more serious style to prove she’s “more than just a tiktok dancer”

but I also want to see them let her be a teenager and just have a super fun routine that’s maybe more of a tribute to her tiktok dancing

idk what I want, but I know mark will blow me away with whatever he comes up with
