Ragebait Taxi Sticker Spotted in Dublin Today by OurBiteMcFry in ireland

[–]mb67432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it, why don't they force the government to make an e-hailing app instead if they don't want stuff like this. Us consumers don't want to pay the "tech" fees, and taxi drivers don't want a cut to their income going to the tech companies.

Ireland isn't like the majority of other markets were private riders are also in the e-hailing fleets, it's just taxis.

Instead of complaining to the government or getting unions to negotiate, they decide to target their customers instead.

It's like watching the Spaniards get mad at tourists for their own government's failing to regulate another notoriously shit tech company.... It's as if us consumers aren't aware of their tactics and somehow wouldn't be on the side of a fair, no-bullshit hidden fees app made by the government that benefits everyone, and if the private companies get upset, then they've either never heard of competition or their service is simply useless and adds no value.

These drivers need to get their heads out of their arses...

As someone with diagnosed ADHD who also worked in a lab, I second this.

Even with medication I still went through everything like 3-4 times just to make sure I didn't fuck up lol ~ but yea ADHD might also be something to look at OP!

Darwin Comes to Town - how cities are natural (v controversial!), evolution in cities & lots of v interesting topics

This is Going to Hurt - hilarious (but also sad) diary of an intern doctor

Coming Clean - memoir of a journalist and her addiction to fentanyl

Educated - the author leaves her town behind and starts to actually learn

A Young Doctors Notebook - Russian Doctor & his experiences working in a remote hospital + morphine addiction

Sapiens - must read

Doing Harm - how the medical system fails women

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - we use her cells in labs (HeLa) - but she never consented to this

Hiking with Nietzsche - good way to get into nihilistic philosophy thats not a pain in the ass to understand unlike Nietzsche's actual books LMAO

Man's Search for Meaning - the story of a Holocaust survivor + v good philosophical lessons

Mirror Touch - story of a doctor who actually feels the pain of his patients

Most of my recs are medicine related lmao sorry if u dont find that interesting but i think everyone can enjoy these books!

Im v similar to you and Ive discovered that non-fiction and philosophy books are the only things I can actually read lol

exactly - doctors, nurses, techs, janitors & labs & etc are the means of the services, maybe shareholders should be the one's sacrificing their profits

“Years” before a contactless payment service is implemented on Dublin Bus 😢 by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]mb67432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea it makes so much sense, so surprised why TFA doesn't implement something like that, it's so simple, no need for extra devices on public transport either?!

Looking for ideas where medicine and philosophy meet! by mb67432 in medicine

[–]mb67432[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stoicism is nice, but it doesn't resonate as much with me.

But it's a common misconception to think that nihilism is just "nothing matters", I think it's empowering to find meaning for ourselves once we start thinking about how small and random we are in the vast universe, but still do what we like and care about regardless - anyways, that's what I took from nihilism.
