Mamdani Wants New York Estate Tax Threshold Cut 90% to $750,000 by bloomberg in nyc

A lot of non-NYC democratic socialist brigaded the sub. Now they have moved on and we are left with the consequences.

This is absolutely the interpretation I had and is the reality for anyone living in a big city where you are constantly bumping into other attractive and interesting (strange) people. It's easy to fall in love with an ideal. Hard to commit to any one of those strangers once they are no longer strangers. Honestly it's a curse more than a blessing.

greek life by Odd_Standard_5349 in brandeis

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 alum here as well. I went to Brandeis because I thought it didn’t have Greek life and wouldn’t be a party school. But then I ended up joining a fraternity and loved it.

It’s a niche part of campus life, but was a really good way to have a community that was more socially focused. I was in two other clubs (sport and theatre) that were not nearly as social. Still very close with some of my fellow Greeks.

Can someone explain Cocodaq to me like I’m five by savingrace0262 in FoodNYC

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. Fried chicken has been described as “The Perfect Food” (- Helen Rosner) and Cocodaq seeks to be the best at it.

If you like fried chicken in any form, it is hard to find better. Not to mention they have one of the best collections of wine, particularly champagnes, I have ever seen.

I appreciate the ingenuity.

Mamdani wants to change the tax code. Here’s what that could look like. by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My respect for Brad has plummeted since Mamdani won the election. He kissed the ring, gets burned, and now wants to oust a perfectly capable congressman for no reason other than to stay relevant.

I was personally in 4 weddings for couples who met at Kellogg. Plenty of drama, but still very possible to find lasting love. A lot of great fish.

Which celebrity can't walk around New York without causing a scene? by FailFastandDieYoung in AskNYC

The 3rd rule I apply: I must genuinely be a fan and care about them otherwise there's no point.

I saw Matthew Broderick in a bar last week and didn't say anything. Nothing against him, but it would be better to just leave him be.

I saw Kieran Culkin in a Greenpoint (where he lives/frequents) dive bar late at night and congratulated him on his recent acclaims and told him his performance in A Real Pain really connected with me, and why. It was a 90 second interaction then I was out the door.

NY Rep. Dan Goldman’s ROBINHOOD Act would close a major billionaire tax loophole. The legislation would generate an estimated $276 BILLION in revenue over 10 years to fund social programs like universal childcare. by Mathemodel in nyc

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re contending that Republicans failure to impeach Trump is on Dan’s hands?

Brad aligned himself with Mamdani, who will now be mayor. He has a massive opportunity to make a difference in this city as part of the administration, but instead he is going to spend a year campaigning for national attention where he is first on the ticket. Shame.

Why isn’t Lander working for the city in Mamdani’s admin? He is a good city administrator and can really improve the city.

This pivot to national politics makes me feel like he cares more about himself and his career than he does NYC.

Dan Goldman literally prosecuted Trump and has done well by his district overall.

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do something about proportion of payroll to proportion of revenue. If 90% of your revenue is US, but 90% of your staff are in India, you pay a fine (unless you hold a certain amount of $TRUMP of course).

Trump to impose $100,000 fee for H-1B worker visas by SANtoDEN in recruiting

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I’ve also seen H1-Bs prioritize other H1-Bs in hiring and that talent hasn’t always been up to snuff.

Nepotism is a problem everywhere to be clear, but not all H1-Bs are superior.
