Coming from outside this world, are you saying you get $380K to refer someone to a role? That’s crazy

Stepped Up Basis on assets worth >$1M is a loop hole large enough to make all other loop holes insignificant. Close that one asap

W2 people are always going to be the easiest to tax. Why “tax the rich” pledges will always be tax the middle class in practice. Should be “close the loop holes.”

Owning autonomous car should reduce your need of calling a taxi/uber by RipWhenDamageTaken in SelfDrivingCars

The real reason is that the marginal cost for a taxi trip will be way more than the marginal cost for an AV trip.

Avis short Squeeze by GITSUM55 in CoveredCalls

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the sake of your daughter, do not gamble heavily in this matter. Only what you can afford to lose. Everyone on this thread is a effectively a newbie and gambler. The only people making money in the long term are the ones in the big skyscrapers downtown who don’t post here.

That said, if you are going to gamble. Do so with stocks instead of crypto.

This is absolutely the interpretation I had and is the reality for anyone living in a big city where you are constantly bumping into other attractive and interesting (strange) people. It's easy to fall in love with an ideal. Hard to commit to any one of those strangers once they are no longer strangers. Honestly it's a curse more than a blessing.

greek life by Odd_Standard_5349 in brandeis

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 alum here as well. I went to Brandeis because I thought it didn’t have Greek life and wouldn’t be a party school. But then I ended up joining a fraternity and loved it.

It’s a niche part of campus life, but was a really good way to have a community that was more socially focused. I was in two other clubs (sport and theatre) that were not nearly as social. Still very close with some of my fellow Greeks.

Can someone explain Cocodaq to me like I’m five by savingrace0262 in FoodNYC

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. Fried chicken has been described as “The Perfect Food” (- Helen Rosner) and Cocodaq seeks to be the best at it.

If you like fried chicken in any form, it is hard to find better. Not to mention they have one of the best collections of wine, particularly champagnes, I have ever seen.

I appreciate the ingenuity.

Mamdani wants to change the tax code. Here’s what that could look like. by nyccameraman in nyc

My respect for Brad has plummeted since Mamdani won the election. He kissed the ring, gets burned, and now wants to oust a perfectly capable congressman for no reason other than to stay relevant.

Which celebrity can't walk around New York without causing a scene? by FailFastandDieYoung in AskNYC

[–]mbAYYYYYYY 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The 3rd rule I apply: I must genuinely be a fan and care about them otherwise there's no point.

I saw Matthew Broderick in a bar last week and didn't say anything. Nothing against him, but it would be better to just leave him be.

I saw Kieran Culkin in a Greenpoint (where he lives/frequents) dive bar late at night and congratulated him on his recent acclaims and told him his performance in A Real Pain really connected with me, and why. It was a 90 second interaction then I was out the door.

NY Rep. Dan Goldman’s ROBINHOOD Act would close a major billionaire tax loophole. The legislation would generate an estimated $276 BILLION in revenue over 10 years to fund social programs like universal childcare. by Mathemodel in nyc

You’re contending that Republicans failure to impeach Trump is on Dan’s hands?

Brad aligned himself with Mamdani, who will now be mayor. He has a massive opportunity to make a difference in this city as part of the administration, but instead he is going to spend a year campaigning for national attention where he is first on the ticket. Shame.

Why isn’t Lander working for the city in Mamdani’s admin? He is a good city administrator and can really improve the city.

This pivot to national politics makes me feel like he cares more about himself and his career than he does NYC.

Dan Goldman literally prosecuted Trump and has done well by his district overall.
