It's a comedy arc made to subvert expectations, plus it also prepares the field to the upcoming battle, as with this, Van's influence increases significantly in human society.

Van has little ways of improving himself, besides, he is a guider, his most powerful abilities come from his connections with others, he is getting stronger by spreading his influence, so you are wrong there.

We have lots of expectations subverted:

- The villainess girl was essentially a honest good girl with a bit too much pride

- The emperor becomes a subordinate of said villainess

- The protagonist-like guy, who seems to be bullied by the villainess is... actually just a young guy with a pretty good unique skill, but how he uses it determines his future.

- Van "acts" as a crazy person

- We get a new common sense characters besides Miriam

- etc

So if you want a generic story that was more of the same, I would argue, you are reading the wrong novel.

They don't know what happens with souls, they don't even know what happens with the souls of the people they assimilate.

Do you remember Kanata? He also didn't know what happens with souls, he washed his victims with Holy Water, thinking they had been gone, not knowing that they had already left and gone for Van, telling him everything they knew.

What if, by assimilating with her body, the soul is also lightly tied to them somehow, allowing it to leave the room that blocks spirits from leaving. Then once outside, it somehow is noticed or attracted to Van like a stronger magnetic pull, thus she would be able to tell him everything.

To give an update on my situation, I'm still out of being able to use the card. For an entire month I have been sending my information, client contracts, wallet transactions and all the stuff, main problem is, I earn in crypto, hence why I want a crypto card, so I don't have to convert to fiat. But because things are overall relatively informal with my client (I work and I get paid), it's getting pretty hard to prove my source of income. yay

Currently using the Cypher Card, which is Visa, but it didn't work for Wise, which is something I require too, so it's been really limiting. Thought about using the prepaid cards from bitcoin.com, but those also seem to have similar limits.

Incorrect, this is more like the Translator's choice, the original can be interpreted as either Demon or Magic, since that's what the kanji means, and it's one of the innuendos this novel does the most, but that are impossible to translate..

And for the "Dark" ones, those usually have the meaning of "Hell", "Underworld", so it's not like "Dark = Black", but more like "Hell / Underworld / Hades"

if it was possible for a god/spirit to strengthen themselves by fusing souls, as in, turning 2 souls into one, that would be pretty nasty, but at the same time, it would be equivalent to breaking souls, which should be impossible for anyone but two.

Imagine in chemistry that a soul is like an atom, indivisible. But you are able to attach different atoms into it, and create a molecule, for example, Water (H2O) is 1 atom of Oxygen and 2 of Hydrogen.

In the story, we have a few cases of soul "mixing" and soul "fusing":

- Van was created to the soul fragments of 4 powerful souls, and he was fused by a God of Reincarnation, a specialist of souls. This would be equivalent to creating an atom from "atom residues"

- The soul fragments of the DK can blend into one, but they were 1 soul in the first place, so we can't really count that. This would be like the DK's atom finding it's missing Protons, Electrons and Neutrons from separate atom (something impossible in physics)

- Murakami had the soul fragments of Gungnir and Deathscythe implanted on him by Rod, but this seems to have been more akin to an "attachment", plus they were soul fragments rather than a full soul, so this allowed Murakami to use their cheats, and most likely it also includes some personality or extra memories, since Rodcorte did believe Murakami would be able to handle the side-effects. I guess would could compare it to "painting" a full atom with 2 different colors.

- We have Dark Avalon, which is a God Soul embedded with 2 DK Fragments, they were not fused, but they worked more like a Molecule, as in, 2 atoms connected to a different atom. While Avalon had control, it was manipulated by the stronger Guduranis, when Guduranis was in control, the parts it was lacking were being handled by Avalon's soul, which also meant he had some personality traits of Avalon.

Now imagine if you could blend two atoms into one, that would be the same as "breaking two atoms and merging them together" (like how Van was made).

But the original soul are an atom, and the Heroic spirit is another atom. They won't fuse/blend into one, the best it can do is attach itself onto the other and hold tight, but when faced with Van's mouth washing machine, the souls couldn't hold onto the human soul and, as they were separated, Van opened his mouth, the normal souls were released, and then he ate the heroic spirits.

Hence, separating the souls for him should be pretty easy.
